“Depends on who is working!”
Reviewed 24 December 2013

Very basic motel although spotlessly clean. Rooms are tiny as are bathrooms. No hairdryer in room but laundry facilities in building. Free internet - works so so in room though good in "lobby". Although the sign says there is coffee etc between 7:30 and 9am, if you arrive and there isn't any left, the person working may or may not make more. I arrived at 8:50am and found it was empty. After waiting a few minutes for the woman working to return to the small lobby area I asked for coffee and got told that the coffee was only till 9am and there was a cafe around the corner. When I pointed out that it was not yet 9am she made a nasty comment and did nothing. At 9am exactly she cleared off the few cups and things and locked it all away. On the other hand, the other Hawaiian woman who works nights there was gracious and helpful and even gave us - unasked for - bottles of water. What a difference a person makes. This is NOT a place to spend any time - just a convenient place for a night when you need somewhere to sleep. And you need to be tired as you hear everything through the walls and weird windows.

Aloha and Mahalo for your comment. We do try and provide the "little things" that make your vacation a pleasant one. I do apologize for the coffee being put away. Thanks to your comment we have extended our coffee time until 10am. We do serve Kauai Coffee and our guest love it!!! I'm glad you got to meet Mokihana, she is a lovely lady and a wonderful asset to our Ohana. I do hope you enjoyed Kauai and it's beauty.

Most of the stuff in the room I stayed are in good qualities, and it is a good choice for traveling with budget concerns. The only thing I would like to point out is that the noise made by the air-conditioner is a little bit loud. But, you have the option to just leave the air-conditioner off.

The photos online are deceptive. We paid for a kitchenette room and was first given a hole in the wall that should be for only 1 person. We were not satisfied with that room and complained and they gave us a bigger room that could not even hold our luggage. The bathroom was barely big enough to move around in and we are skinny people. The toilet was behind the door in a little nook area. Horrible spot. Very dated rooms from the 50's. No phone and no clock radio. No place to hang up clothes. Oh, yes the roosters wake you up at 4 a.m. It is located near the Lihue Airport in a run down industrial area. We moved to a different hotel after 1 night. The hotel we moved to was on the beach for $79/night with pool and continental breakfast. The last person's review was right on. All I can say is don't stay here. OMG. Our advice to you is to keep driving past this twilight zone hotel and find something better.

Room Tip: Keep searching and drive past this motel. Don't stay in this &$/@ hole Bates Motel here!

Aloha,
Every response that we get only helps to better our hotel. I am thankful for your comment as it will give me ideas to provide better service and help with providing what is needed to make the guests stay a comfortable experience. We do provide alarm clocks when requested and we provide a phone in the lobby which all calls are free to our guests. We have many items that we provide to our guests if they need it. We are located right in Lihue Town and we are surrounded by many wonderful restaurants all walking distance from the hotel. The chickens are a part of the entire island and has become an island mascot. I am sorry you were not comfortable at the hotel but I do hope you got to enjoy many of Kauai's activities.
Mahalo for your thoughts and I do hope you have a chance to return to the island and it's many beautiful sites.

Booked this for one night based on reviews but that was a mistake. I arrived at a place back in time. I wasn't even sure it was a motel. All the room doors looked like, well, not like secure room doors. I heard guests in their rooms'as'I'walked the outside corridor. The doors and walls are thin. Windows and doors have open ventanas for air circulation'as'they charge extra for air
conditioning. Rooster woke me up at 4am and they did not stop. No phone or clock in the room so set your cell phone if you need an alarm. A tiny 10`` TV was mounted at the ceiling.I left the room at 6:15am as I could not sleep from the rooster noise, tried to check out but they do not come into work at the front desk until 7am! Left keys under the door and got out of there. Typical Hawaii ma & pa motel that thinks its a resort. This is a typical $30 motel on the mainland, no frills, not even a phone or alarm clock.

Aloha,
Thank you for visiting with us and leaving a comment. I am sorry your night with us was not comfortable. We are a older hotel but well taken care of. We do provide alarm clocks and many other items a guest may need for their room. We would have happily given an alarm clock for your morning wake up call. The chickens are a part of Kauai, they are everywhere as you may have seen. Our office is open from 7am, however, there is a drop box for your hotel room key located at the front desk. I hope you had a nice time on Kauai and enjoyed some island culture and all the different flavors of the island.
Mahalo for your comment, I appreciate the feedback.

The 5 stars are based on what you get for what is a very reasonable price in Hawaii. Our room was well appointed and very clean. The staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. One thing not mentioned by other reviwers is their high water pressure showers-a real treat. If you want to work in one budget hotel during your Hawaiian vacation, this is the one.

Small hotel of budget chain but very clean and you can be sure the you receive good quality of services. Pick room with view towards the mountains its beautiful. Wi-fi is fo free. Only issue we had with accomodatio is with location, we didnt rent a car and expected that this is center of town but its more lively in harbour areas so without car rent there.

Room Tip: if you have car stay here if you dont choose hotel near harbour area. Pick room with view towards th...

In case you don't know - Kauai has a LOT of chickens. The wild roosters crow when they want, don't be thinking they only crow at dawn..

The Kauai Palms is an old school hotel. There is no elevator. If you're staying on the 2nd floor, you lug your bags up and down. Not all rooms have air conditioning, but there are ceiling fans and louvered windows to let any breeze through. Clean but small rooms. The ladies at the front desk were great!
