“Beautiful place”

This is a great place to stay with kids. We flew in from LA and were really welcomed at the bell desk. They took our car and luggage with no issue. Our checkin experience was amazing too. They made sure we were comfortable after a long travel with kids.

We are Marriott rewards platinum members and used points for our 5 day stay. I assume because it is a time share place they don't care about your Marriott status. We were put on the 3rd floor , which is actually the first floor of rooms and could see part of the ocean . The room needs to be updated. And it did not have a clean feel to it. The blow dryer was broke so they brought up another one, which didn't work either. I guess they didn't think to try it out before leaving it. Dukes is a great restaurant attached to the restaurant . We ate there every night almost . Pool side food was nothing to brag about and breakfast was expensive . $3 for a plain bagel. They talk you into buying a mug that you can use for your stay that is $36 and you can get free refills of cofee and soda. Good luck finding coffee after 10 am. You must have a car because there is absolutely nothing near the hotel to walk to, which is disappointing because the cabs are so expensive and you don't want to drink and drive so that's why we ate at dukes most nights. The weather rained most of the time so the ocean at the hotel was all dirty and not pretty Hawaiian weather . Poipu beach has a Marriott and it is def a better choice. Beach is beautiful and places to eat and shop are walking distance. If you stay at the Marriott in Lihue and are just staying on the resort room , def go to grocery store and stock up on alcohol , snacks and even sandwiches. There is Walmart , Costco and Kmart a few minutes from resort . This will save you a lot of money again, your only options are hotel food especially if it is nice and you are out by the pool. The staff are not too helpful when it comes to things to do outside of the hotel. Rainy day activities they consider shopping at Kmart and Walmart or going to a movie. They also only reccomended 1 restaurant off the resort to eat at. We travel a lot, and we like to be at a hotel where we have options. Not much there and it is not a great beach. Would def not go back, grand Hyatt is def the place to stay on the east side , even as platinum Marriott , I would stay there next time .

The location and the physical property (i.e., hotel grounds, location, beach access, etc.,) are really top notch. However, if you are seeking and used to having a Marriott timeshare unit with all of the kitchen ammenities think again. The rooms themselves were very nice, well kept and comfortable. The views from the unit was also spectacular and the overall hotel service very good. But, I traded my home Marriott Timeshare week expecting a similar room arrangement. So, while the rooms were nice, I was dissapointed with a very minimal kitchen. There was no real cooking equipment (i.e., stove, stove top), except for a small microwave. There was a small refrigerator, no garbage disposal and limited kitchen utensils. So, any kind of decent meal preparation was very limited. Although the surrounding restaurants were good, they were also expensive, especially if you were counting on preparing meals like a simple breakfast or lunch. On the otherhand, this particular property had many good things going for it. Location ( as I previously mentioned), great pool, great beach, easy access to town, close to the airport, etc.,

I think the bottom line here is, that if you are looking for the typical Marriott Timeshare with a full kitchen, this is NOT it... but if you don't typically cook or prepare meals and don't mind more of a hotel type experience, then this is an excellent property and an excellent choice. choice

We stayed on this property for two weeks, and it was yet another great vacation! We had a very comfortable stay, and loved having the option of choosing between the beach or the pool without ever having to get in our car. The room was nice, as always. The bedding and towels were plush. The bathtub, however, could use a fresh dose of chalk. The gas grills were a nice addition since the last time we were there, and we saw that they were cleaned daily. The 24-hr gym was well-lit, spacious, and had plenty of equipment. The newly redone golf course is simply stunning. The pros offer daily clinics, which are a good deal. And if you play the course once, you are offered the opportunity to come back at halfprice. A couple things need upgrading though: the tennis courts all had cracks and the hottubs have seen better days.

A few notes about the property's restaurants: Duke's offers Happy Hour daily and a Tuesday Fish Taco special, and the pool-side restaurant has a weekly King Crab buffet that is delicious. Although it's not part of the Marriott property, be sure to stroll a little bit further and grab a fresh fish burger at the Kalapaki Beach Hut nearby! Try it on the toasted taro bun with wasabi may - very ono!

All in all, I'd enthusiastically recommend this hotel for its amenities, location, and general value for a beachfront resort.

I have traveled all over and I have never had a better vacation. The staff, food, location, and sites have been top notch. I didn't think I would like a place that wasn't all-inclusive but what I have discovered are less crowds, no fighting for a beach chair, less lines and more activities of MY choice, not theirs. I would HIGHLY recommend Kauai. Suck up the time it takes to fly here. It is well worth it!!

Room Tip: Don't forget to ask for an ocean view. We also have a kitchenette which is really nice!!

Last time here was just after Iniki destroyed this former Westin site. Nothing was open but the restaurant. Very pleased to see that Marriott has restored this former hotel into a first-class hotel-timeshare combination. As with most conversions, the rooms leave something to be missed if you relish the timeshare amenties like full kitchens with stove, 2-3 full br's (the adjoining room features a sofa-bed pull down, but all-in-all, the decor is first class (including the beds). The property itself is nothing short of spectacular (elegant) in so many ways. A bit crowded, but the scenery is awe-striking, jaw-dropping, and pure Marriott.

Room Tip: Hotel rooms are exactly that. Timeshare rooms are a cut above in every way.

We stayed in an oceanfront studio (large hotel room) with Marriott timeshare points- the property is beautiful with a nice courtyard area with koi, a family of nene (Hawaiian geese) and nice tropical trees and flowers. We were steps away from the beach and ocean- the Marriott is the ONLY property on this bay. (There are a few private homes on a bluff above, and another Marriott timeshare (Lagoons) a 10-minute walk away.) There is a Duke's on the property, and several decent restaurants within walking distance. Very nice and large pool area with FIVE jacuzzis. While not as fancy as some other Marriott timeshares we have stayed in (Ko Olina, Maui Ocean Club), we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of this Kauai property. We checked out Poipu while on Kauai but did not like the atmosphere as much.
