Tried it just for a night. Thanks goodness that was it....we just wanted to see for ourselves. Only upside, we rented paddle boards at the beach easily. Employees at hotel ice. Rooms smelly. Construction noise. Impossibly large (empty) hotel. Beach decent enough but not if you're accustomed to beaches. Skipped all restaurants. Won't go back...

We were fortunate enough to stay in an oceanfront room of the 12th floor of the Kilohana Tower. The views were fantastic. Nawiliwili Bay is the primary sight out of the room, with a lush, green, beautiful mountain behind it. The open ocean is also visible, and so are the lighthouses/beacons on either side of the bay, plus the dock where cruise ships come in to park. The houses built up along the east side of the bay are there overlooking Kalapaki Beach. The waves lapping against the beach are a constant sound from within the room when the doors are open.

I won't go into too much detail regarding the interior of the room, since it was slated for an update, literally, upon our checkout. (In fact, when we walked out of the room to go to the lobby for checkout, housekeeping staff was busy stripping the other rooms on the floor in preparation for the renovation). But it was very nice. Marriott-predictable nice.

The resort is fabulous. It's very impressive to just walk into. A very long escalator takes you from the bell stand to the lobby level. Once down there, you are overwhelmed by fanciful gardens and ponds, huge statues, and artwork. The lobby itself is also very impressive, covered in dark, rich hardwoods and stone, with a giant canoe in its center.

Because the property is so large, finding your way from one part to another can be a bit challenging, but there are many interesting things to discover along each path. The koi pond and waterfalls are great, and so are the the many colorful flowers and trees. Plus, there are shops and other things you may not notice your first time through -- like a parrot -- that hold the interest. I suppose someone could lose interest in all of this after a longer while, but I found it to be very refreshing each time during my visit.

The restaurants here are great, too. We ate at Kukui's for breakfast almost every day. The buffet is a bit pricey, but it was worth it. I ordered off the menu most days, but the one day I got the buffet, I got a super-fantastic omelet. We also at at Kukui's for dinner a couple of nights, and the food was very good those nights too. We ate at Dukes one night and only got appetizers, but they were all good, and they had excellent Mai Tai's. We also had lunch at the Kalapaki Grill one afternoon, and it was rather tasty. We didn't go to the Italian place.

As we were busy venturing out on the island most days, we only spent one sunny afternoon (and one cloudy/rainy day) at the pool and beach. The pool is massive, and took me about 10 minutes to do one lap around it, nonstop. The fountains in the pool were not only fun to watch, but also added some texture to the swimming experience. The hot tubs were nice -- not too hot -- but I wasn't too keen on the fact that 3 out of 5 of them required going through the pool to get to. I'm not sure if they typically have any music around the pool area, but they didn't while we were there, and that was fine with me.

The beach was nice, warm (enough) water, even in November. The waves were 2-3 feet and broke a bit too close in to be useful for body surfing, for my taste anyway. There's a strip of grass that marks the end of the hotel property. This is where the beach chaise lounges are set up. The grassy area is a bit uphill of the sand, so you can lay there and see the water and any people in it you might care about (or not) fairly easily.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The waiters at the restaurants were professional at all times, and occasionally made sure to ask how our vacation was going, or how our day had gone. The people at the front desk were very nice and knowledgeable. When we inquired about their "linger longer" program, they were quick to point out that we need not make any commitment until the day of our departure. This allowed us to decide whether or not to do that based on how we felt on the day of our checkout. The bell hops and valets were all very nice and personable, too. They were speedy getting our car (we sprung for valet, since it was only $3/day more than self-park) and they always asked if we needed directions though. They were even able to quickly retrieve something I had left in my car.

So, all in all, this was a great place to stay. Great room. Great property. Great restaurants/food. Great pool/beach. Great staff. It all made for a wonderful vacation.

This property is one of the gems of the island. The grounds are fantastic, the restaurants are wonderful, and the the staff is helpful. I do have a quibble. This property has been converted for timeshare, and is primarily for that purpose. The murphy bed in our room was by far, the worst sleeping experience I have ever had outside of camping trips where I slept on the ground. It was so bed, my wife and I went to Wal-Mart, and bought and queen size inflatable air mattress to put on top of the bed just so we could get some sleep. That added about $20.00 a night to the cost of the room. At $2500 for a week, this is a good deal, but I did expect that I could use the the bed, as that IS what the room is for.....sleeping.

Room Tip: You won't be disappointed in this property, just the murphy beds.

Very beautiful gardens all around this property. A beautiful koi pond with lots of large koi. A nene and a swan that will eat out of your hand. A very large pool that is right next to the ocean. This is truely a slice of heaven. This is my second time staying here and I will be back in the future.

Needed some real time off just to veg out and this certainly was the place. From the desk people the to rest of the staff they couldn't do more for us. This was our 40th anniversary and a bottle of champagne and strawberries were waiting in our room. Nice touch :) Rooms were typical Marriott. We did have them bring up a microwave (our unit was not a timeshare) so we made breakfast and the frig held enough for snacks as well. When you get there, ask the bell captain if anyone left any beach chairs. If you plan on touring other beaches (the one there is a protected harbor...no waves be great for other activities) you'll want to bring a chair. People go to K-mart, buy the chairs and leave them for others. We bought an umbrella and left that for others. If you're in the building by the pool, there is a "public" parking lot right behind the building. Tight parking but if you get a stop it will save on the 10 minute walk to the other main lot. In the morning they have an a'la' carte set-up at the upstairs bar overlooking the pool. Best deal is buy the $32/32 oz cup for coffee. You get free refills all week...coffee, tea and soft drinks at the ALC and all other bars all day. At $5.50 for a 16 oz cup of coffee and $3 for a soda...do the math. We actually had appetizers at the bar for dinner if we were at the hotel and it was delicious and more than filling. There are several nice eateries next to the hotel or a short ride away. If you are touring, go to Bubba's Burgers...there are three and they are all great. If you are playing golf, the course at the hotel is fabulous but there are also several in the area at 1/3 the price. Call the hotel to make tee times. Spa services are very good but the spa has no usual stuff like a steam and sauna. The gym which is not attached to the spa is better then most including a separate exercise and yoga room. Good equipment. Don't be concerned that the property is near the airport. Never saw or heard a plane plus it's only a 3 minute drive. Many prefer Princeville to the north or Pop'oi to the south but this is right in the middle so going to explore either is convenient. Definitely would consider a return.

Room Tip: If you book a pool room view, be sure it is above the 6th floor (which is actually the 20th floor...

We own a time share here and just stayed the week. The remodel has done wonders for the rooms, and although they are still working on the rooms it has few side affects. The Marriott restaurant has improved a lot as they are offering more choices through their menu. The grounds are as always nice, and the pool is outstanding. The service of the folks who work there is impeccable.

Thanks for a great stay
