This is a well preserved plantation from one of the founding missionary families of Kauai. The last family member residing here created a foundation to preserve the place and docent led tours are filled with information. I recommend you wear sandals as you need to remove footwear three times during the tour. We were also served homemade tea and cookies that were baked in the still used wood stove. Allow 2.5 to 3 hours. It sounds lengthy but the time flew by.

Only open about 3 days a week for small tours, this plantation farm museum is rich with the history of island sugar cane. I got their book detailing the history of George Wilcox and the farm. It is very interesting and I would recommend buying at their gift area. More info: GroveFarm.org.

The Grove Farm tour was so interesting & gave us a chance to go back in time to see what life was like on a sugar plantation in the late 1800's, which was purchased by George N. Wilcox & we learned the history of the Wilcox family. We were fortunate to have David as our tour guide & he was a wealth of information. We were able to enter the buildings, view the furnishings & collections, & imagine what their lives were like. The tour takes two hours & is really a "must see" in Kauai. A special treat at the end is a glass of Grove Farm Mint Iced Tea & Grove Farm Ice Box Sugar Cookies, which was served to us sitting around the kitchen table at the end of the tour.

Although the front office seems to be a bit disorganized, once this tour got underway it was very informative and entertaining. I enjoyed the tour of the plantation house and grounds. Well worth your time and money for history loving adults. I think most kids would be bored.

Our guide (Noble) was amazing in his presentation of details of the life and times, building details, art and book collection, gardens, kitchen, and all the wonderful animals. This is a MUSTSEE to enhance your appreciation of the island.
