“Very Satisfied with Our Choice to Stay at the Kauai Beach Resort”
Reviewed 2 October 2012

This was our first trip to Kauai. We traveled to Maui 7 years ago, stayed at the Sheraton, and had a wonderful experience. We considered staying at the Sheraton in Kauai, but couldn't justify the extra $$$ for the difference. We reviewed at length the accommodation opportunities, and after spending much time on Trip Advisor reading many other reviews and deciding what we wanted to experience on our vacation, we decided on the Kauai Beach Resort. We made this decision based on the central location, the value we were getting for the costs involved compared to other resort options, and the general rating of other reviewers who had stayed here. We reserved our 9 night 10 day (Sept. 2012) stay directly through the KBR. I spoke to an extremely helpful and friendly reservationist (Ann) who was located at the property. She reserved for us exactly what we wanted (pool side, ocean view, 3rd floor) with even more upgrades upon our arrival. She took our 1 night reservation deposit and sent e-mail outlining the room package with car rental, the amount paid on deposit, and the amount due upon arrival. When we checked in, we found she also threw in the breakfast buffet, and had given us a certificate for a free dessert for our Anniversary celebration. Upon checking out (we had a 9PM flight departure) we were allowed to extend our check out time by 5 hours. Additionally, the amount due at check-out was even less than what we had expected with all the additional amenities we received including no extra charge for the extended last day. The service and hospitality of all employees we encountered at this resort was exceptional in helpfulness and friendliness. We have traveled to many places, (we are a 60's couple), so this wasn't a first time opportunity to vacation in a resort. We consider ourselves to be experienced travelers. My husband and I realize that there are many expectations based on what is important to each vacationer. We were admittedly at times, concerned with some of the reviews regarding this resort. We can honestly say that we were not the least bit disappointed with our choice, but acknowledge that not everyone is looking for the same things in their vacation expectations.

We traveled to the North Shore and the South Shore. It all depends on what you want in your vacation. We were glad to have decided on the East Shore, as it was so convenient to any direction we chose for the day. And, with the variances in the different areas, and all there is to see and do, we were glad to not be in the extreme of either direction. We were anywhere we chose to go within 45 minutes at most. It was very convenient to the airport, beaches, shopping, etc. We were happy we chose to rent a car (included in our resort reservation), as we used it every day. This resort is not within walking distance to anything nearby. We did not find that to be a problem. Many have complained about the daily parking fee. That is waived if you've rented a car through the resort. Also, the distance to the parking lot that others have complained about... that was laughable. If that was a genuine complaint by some, they must be accustomed to not walking anywhere as the distance is not even worth commenting on.

This is an older resort, but we found it to be a positive as it seemed to retain a more Hawaiian atmosphere. On that note, it was very nicely updated with flat screen TV's, very comfortable bedding, and nicely furnished. We had plenty of room for storing our things, and didn't feel we were confined in any way. It had a nice size bathroom with plenty of counter and sink space with drawers to store items. We very much enjoyed our private balcony to relax on and the mini fridge to enjoy some drinks when not at the pool. We enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and never felt like we were on top of others when we were trying to read or converse. There wasn't the usual saving of pool chairs with towels. There were plenty of chairs, shaded areas, and various pools and hot tubs to enjoy. We found everything to be very clean and well maintained. The landscaping was well manicured and beautiful. We are beach people, and yes the beach is not favorable for swimming. This was probably the one disappointment we would say we encountered. However, we knew that this area was not favorable for swimming before booking. It has a lot of lava rock, and the currents can be strong. However, it is nice to walk along, and you can get in shallow areas to cool off. There are areas here within short driving distances to go and enjoy the water, however it would have been nice to enjoy that opportunity on the premises.

We ate on the premises quite often. The breakfast buffet offered much variety. I can't imagine what else you would want. There was an omelette station, fresh fruits, pastry, the usual hot offerings, cereal, (hot and cold), etc. To rate the restaurants with lunch and dinner fare is difficult, as it's a matter of what you are looking for. We found the offerings to be varied, well prepared, and a good value. Again, I would imagine where you live and what you consider to be expensive is a matter of opinion. We found the food was worth the amount being charged based on what we encounter in other vacation areas. We were well pleased with the dinners, lite fare offerings, and the hours of opportunity to be able to get whatever you might be hungry for. One evening we simply chose to go to the dining room to have the fresh soup and salad bar, (which was nicely presented) as we were tired after a long day and not all that hungry. There is a steak and seafood buffet offered on Sat evenings for $45 per person. It was quite good with many choices including many types of seafood, a carving station, salad, sides, and dessert.

We realize this is lengthy, but we felt the overall experience we had here was worth the comments. Of course there will be those that will find things to complain about. That's why we are all different, so obviously you can't please everyone. But, in all fairness, the things we've read on here after vacationing there and experiencing this resort for ourselves, we believe that some of these issues are made by those that just have to complain about something no matter where they go. In summary, for the value and what this resort has to offer, we were extremely pleased with our choice. The helpful, friendly attitudes of all the staff we encountered from the front desk, housekeepers, wait service, etc. was one of the things that stood out most to us. We were quite impressed with how many of the staff from the bartenders, hosts and hostesses, waiters and waitresses, would remember your name and greet you by name whenever they encountered you. There is a sign that hangs over the employee entrance that says "Through these doors walk the best employees in the world". This appreciation of their employees shows, and we commend them for what they are doing. We could have easily spent approx. $1,000 more had we stayed at the Sheraton (for example), and I'm sure that is a very nice resort also, but we got to spend our extra $$$ for other things we enjoyed (tours, etc.) and yet had a wonderful experience in a resort. On the days we chose to not venture off the premises, we very much enjoyed all this resort had to offer. We hope these comments help others with their decision as to where they would like to stay. Just keep in mind what is important to one traveler may not necessarily be of high importance to another. Again, we were very happy with our choice based on what we were hoping to experience. We were not disappointed and if we get the opportunity to return to Kauai, would absolutely stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms facing pool side on either the second or third floor. First floor may be fine if you want to...

We stayed at the resort for only 3 days but enjoyed every minute of it. It's prime location and close to tours, airport, and restaurants. We were promised a ocean view, which wasn't really an ocean view. All in all, I was happy with the room and the service. We absolutely enjoyed the 3 pools, slide, and the kid friendly atmosphere. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

My wife and I made a return trip to the Kauai Beach Resort this year. We were in one of the ocean view rooms overlooking the pool area, and found it to be spotlessly clean, with a super comfortable bed and a lovely view. We arrived quite late in the evening after long flights from the UK, and after being picked up at the airport, had a relaxing drink in the lovely Shutters bar.
We then went to our room, where we had a pre-ordered snack of delicious chicken sandwiches. A great start to our holiday! The staff at the hotel are friendly and always make you feel welcome. The grounds and gardens are well cared for and you can see the results of all the hard work by the staff.
We also chose to have the buffet breakfast in the restaurant every morning, where there is an excellent choice and this set us up for the rest of the day!
The island of Kauai is a great place to have a vacation, and we would thoroughly recommend a stay at the Kauai Beach Resort.
Keep it up

We had a great experience at Kauai Beach Resort for our 38th Anniversary. The central Location was the best on the island and though not far from the airport seemed to be a somewhat remote setting with nice tropical grounds. You can get to anyplace on the island from there -- very convenient to restaurants and shopping. The staff at the resort were friendly and very accommodating. The rooms were well kept up and housekeeping did a great job of making up the rooms promptly and responding to our needs. My wife is particular about her pillows and the room had great pillows and very comfortable beds. The pool area was perfect and restaurant did a terrific job of their breakfast buffet. We took advantage of a great rental car package they offered and added the buffet breakfast every morning which I highly recommend. This resort had everything we were looking for in a resort and yet not pretentious as some so-called high end resorts are. A great comfortable place to stay which was well run. The concierge was excellent at arranging our activities on the island too. I definitely would go back.

Room Tip: We chose a room on the top floor at the end of the south wing which was very convenient to the pool...

My wife and I stayed at the Kauai Beach Resort for 10 days on our Kauai vacation September 2012. The hotel is a former Hilton that has been renovated. The Aqua people that now run it keep it very well maintained, you can always see staff cleaning and tending the grounds and their efforts show.

Although its right on the beach, its not really safe to swim here (rocky & rough). Drive 5 minutes north to Lydgate Park for the best swimming.

The rooms are clean and well appointed and I found the beds comfortable. There is a safe and small refrigerator in each room. There is no in-room wifi (only in the lobby) but I found that you can pick up the signal from your lanai if you happen to be staying in the part of the hotel above the lobby.

I found the $10+ daily charge for the pleasure of parking my car really left a bad taste in my mouth upon check out. If they have to gouge people, I wish they would just roll it into the price of the hotel, a rental car is a necessity on Kauai.

A couple of hints:

-Rooms that start with a 4 are located in the bulding closest to the ocean and will have the nicest views.

-The $25 breakfast buffet is a complete joke (it's worth about $5 - really!) If you go to the briefing with the Expedia people at the start of your stay they will give you a 2 for 1 at the breakfast buffet, give it a try, but I'm sure you will see that its not worth the price even at half!

-All the rooms are individually owned, most are in the hotel rental pool, but many are on VRBO where you can rent directly from the owner at a substantial savings - check it out before booking with your vacation company or directly with the hotel.

I would stay at this hotel again for sure. Very convenient on the East Shore.

Room Tip: Rooms starting with a 4 are located in the building closest to the ocean and will have a better view...

We were VERY pleased with this hotel. It was a perfect location to easily and quickly access the north and south coast. We were ok without a swimmable beach on the property, there were plenty of beaches to visit throughout the island. Yes, parking is a short walk. We expected a longer walk after reading reviews, but it wasn't bad at all! The staff was very pleasant and helpful, especially the gentleman who keeps an eye on the water slide. He loved his job and he made our visit more fun! The pool was very crowded on the weekend, perhaps with non-hotel visitors. We were thankful we purchased the morning buffet breakfast package - it was delicious and worth every penny. For the value, location and comfort, we would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

Room Tip: A first floor room is easy access to the pool and gardens, but the chickens will wake you up!

Nice place to stay, had a two bedroom condo and was plenty of room for my husband and soon and my parents. Resort is located on the beach, but not a swimming beach, just nice for walking and finding treasures. Pool areas are nice, used the grills a couple times. Located on the East side, can go to North shore or head to Poipu. Walmart located close, be sure to rent a car to enjoy all the island has to offer. This is our fourth trip to Kauai and we enjoyed this location the best.
