“Small and quiet”
Reviewed 15 May 2014

If you have an hour to kill this is interesting. The old building is cool. They could have used some volunteers to chat with visitors and share their favorite display or point out an interesting fact or two. We just walked around and read the displays.

“A thought-provoking and expansive overview of Kaua'i”
Reviewed 15 May 2014

This little museum is an important stop for all visitors to Kaua'i, especially Americans. It provides a nice overview of the history of the island, and Hawaii in general, including American annexation and the subsequent effects of colonialism. I found myself questioning why I never learned about the rich history of Hawaii or the plight of the Hawaiian people before. Very interesting and thought provoking. Now, I just want to learn more.

The museum itself is small and is full of (sometimes not well marked) curios. But, it is great nonetheless. Stop here first if you can.

“Nice museum, attentive staff”
Reviewed 10 May 2014

Although some of the exhibits in this museum are clearly under construction, what is completed is well-documented and interesting. There is a lot of information about the original inhabitants of Kauai, and those that colonized it. We thoroughly enjoyed it!

“A day at the museum”
Reviewed 8 April 2014

We enjoyed this museum. It was nicely laid out. Having grown up on Oahu, I thought I knew most things about Hawaii but was intrigued to discover Kauai has it's own unique history. Very interesting. I love learning about the history of places and their people. Well worth the time spent

“A wonderful Day”
Reviewed 8 April 2014

We went to the Kauai Museum again to see if they had new exhibits and to support their ongoing good work. The volunteers are lovely. They even remembered my Mother from the past year! That made her day.

We happened to be there on the first Friday of the month. They have a lovely, simple $20 lunch Hawaiian style (chicken long rice, kalua pork and cabbage, teriyaki chicken, rice, salad, and cake. But what made it special was the outstanding entertainment put on by the volunteers. An excellent guitarist performed music with a MC. Two of the volunteer/"aunties" sang and danced hula. I felt like I was have an enjoyable time at a friend's home. The love and joy that these volunteers can be seen.

It was a joy to go and support this local museum.
