“Good Intro to Saimin!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2014 via mobile

This is a local noodle or Saimin stand in central Lihue. This is a locals type place, so leave your pretensions at the door. Seating is U-shaped communal style, service is brisk and stern, but the noodles are oh-so-good! Apparently Saimin is a blended style of Chinese, Japanese and Filipino noodle dishes. The noodle is a wheat-type noodle like ramen, but thicker in caliber. The "special" adds fish cake, pork meat, dumplings, a half egg, and Chinese cabbage in a salty broth.
Other items available such as fried dumplings and fried rice.
Final note- bring your cash ( no credit cards accepted)!

“Saimin Neophytes”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2014

Before leaving Kauai we asked local merchants where they would suggest we go for a good meal. We were directed to this Saimin stand and told this is a regular hang out for local residents. We had never had Saimin before, but we were game for a new experience. When we entered, it appeared we were the only out-of-towners there. We asked the server for suggestions and she said the best would be the "special". We ordered that and added a beef and chicken BBQ skewer, as well. All the food was good, although I would say I preferred the beef skewer to the chicken one. The special Saimin came in a generously-sized bowl and was very tasty. We enjoyed the experience and were glad we followed all of the suggestions given to us. The price was right, too, as we got all of the above for under $20. Good value and good food!

“Wow!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 May 2014

Stopped by sandy and wet after hours of snorkeling, and just asked for twomedium-sized Saimins, unsure of how or what to order. We fell in love with this scrumptious flavorful comfort food, basically a noodle soup with a little of this and that thrown in, but the flavor...you have to try this little place! The noodles and broth were out of thus world, really. We completed our lunch with a slice of their lilikoi chiffon pie, and I'm telling you, so light and yet full of delicate lilikoi flavor! We were in heaven, left full and happy. There were a number of locals there, now we will be going back to try more of the menu. We highly recommend this small diner.

This spot has been serving since forever. Do not expect red carpet treatment, expect good honest food. A favorite of my relatives who were born on Kauai. Leave your pretensions at the door and respect the locals.

“Nice Local Spot for Lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 May 2014

Different but good from what I was expecting. We were warned by our travel book and a couple tour guides that the service could be rude to tourists. We did not find this to be the case at all. The portions are big and priced low. We did not try the pie but saw at least five people come in and get them to go. They must be delish!
