A lot of locals eat here and the main reason is great food with reasonable prices. It's only open for breakfast and lunch. We has saimin. I was not impressed with their pancakes though. It's always pretty full.

If you're looking for an eatery where the locals hang out, the Tip Top Cafe is it. We had the banana pineapple pancakes with coconut syrup and they were to die for.

I believe they also serve lunch and dinner.

On vacation on Kauai and wanted a place outside the resort. Found Tip Top and it worked out perfectly. 3 of us in our party and everyone was happy and satisfied to start the day.

Pancakes were perfect size and well done.
Loco Moco was wonderful way to start the day as well.

Will return during our vacation for sure.

Just kind of have to shake my head at those reviewers who complain about the retro ambience here. The idea of traveling for many is to see how others experience life on a daily basis. Those looking for a pristine (aka soulless) resort experience should go to Maui. Kauai, in general, is way more laid back than that. This is a solid breakfast destination, in an atypical location, where efficient service and average prices keep the tables full of locals and the occasional island visitor. The criticism of the bacon (not made to order) and Portuguese sausage (small portions) in previous reviews is valid. The Mac pancakes are the big draw for me and really are some of the tastiest pancakes I have wolfed down. Through the lobby and to the right we sat ourselves at one of the few empty booths and immediately we were brought water and coffee from a friendly, chatty server. The wonderful pancakes came soon along with the aforementioned precooked bacon and three small circles of sausage. We paid at the cash register on the way out feeling fueled for a day of exploring.

We had a standard breakfast of hashbrowns with scrambled eggs and Portuguese sausage. The Portuguese sausage is what made the breakfast. My girlfriend had pancakes with guava and passion fruit jelly. Its a very busy place with ample seating but a limited amount of parking, parked on the street. Coffee was so so.
