Having seen them from the air drove up to the falls the next day. Parking is limited but people come and go often so no issue.

Great view but I would have liked to get down to the pool. Others had but I could not find directions.

It is said that this is the same waterfall depicted in the opening of the Fantasy Island TV series. The view from up on top is spectacular. However, standing along the brick wall looking down at the grandeur of the waterfall, a couple of girls crawled up and over the short wall after having ventured down the right side to the bottom into the lagoon. We had to get the full experience and decided to make the trip down too!

BRING MOSQUITO REPELANT. The way down is steep but easily navigated if done with care. There are ropes to hang onto along the way for a few of the steeper sections. Once you reach the bottom be prepared for an awesome view. The water is chilly but refreshing after the hike down.

DO NOT GET CLOSE TOO THE BOTTOM OF WATERFALL WHERE IT HITS THE WATER OR YOU MAY GET SUCKED DOWN AND DROWN. PROCEED AT YOUR OWN CAUTION.

That being said, this is a fantastic point of interest. We had a great and exhilarating time!!

Can't say we saved the best for last since there are SO MANY beautifully places to visit on the island but....our flight did not leave until one and we could not just sit around the morning of so we saved a few hours to visit the falls...Glad we did! Just 10 or so miles from the airport but a world away...wound our way up a narrow road and arrived at a small but adequate parking lot..a few local vendors around with some local products...not obtrusive...walked a few yards and had a great view of the falls...some tall grasses that could be cut back a bit but just a minor detail...Great place for someone with limited mobility to see a real natural wonder not far from town. I talked to a young couple who had hiked down from an earlier pull off spot and was told a steep but not to difficult hike to the bottom...I will save that for my next visit. Made my flight just fine and was very happy I had made some time for this last stop....good place to end a wonderfully vacation...

We happened to make an impulse turn off on our trip from Lihue to Kapaa and it was definitely a worthwhile diversion. The drive is pretty short, and quite scenic, winding through all sort of fields and plantations at the base of the mountains. It ends right at the waterfall (no hiking necessary) with a top notch view. If you have a few minutes to spare I'd highly recommend. Do go the speed limit though - there is the potential to see wildlife in the roads (we had a close encounter with a wild pig!)

You have to kayak a decent distance and then hike to get to the falls but it was a lot of fun. For the hiking portion be prepared to get very muddy and there are several river crossing. So if you do not want to get muddy or wet it might not be for you. The falls at the end was nice and there is a pool to go swimming in.
