“Laid back and relaxing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 September 2011

I stayed at this little place about a week. The staff is great. They visit with guests and try to help as much as they can. They seem to take a personal interest in the quality of the guests' visit to Kauai.

The location is wonderful too. It is in a residential neighborhood about 1/4 mile from an industrial harbor, but the surroundings were so peaceful that the industries quickly faded from view and memory. The water nearby adds to the setting's rejuvenating quality. The hotel is nestled by the foothills of some smaller cliffs.

The first floor rooms in at least one of the three, two-story buildings have little patios in back that look out on an expanse of lawn, flowers and trees.

The premises has a coin-op laundry and a continental breakfast of fruit, muffins, breads, juice, tea and coffee each morning. To my delight, there is 24-hour tea, coffee and cookies available in the courtyard.

There is a small pool and parking in back.

This small older place is not fancy and a wee bit funky. It is tucked away from the glitz blitz and crazed commericialism encroaching Lihue's main thoroughfares. With a little TLC from an engineer/custodian, the hotel would be a total gem. Doors stick, there is an occasional problem with plumbing and not all rooms have phones. I hope that the owners will invest just enough money to fix these and any other functional problems on the property. It is sad to see such a lovely place with such fine staff suffer from upkeep problems that could easily be fixed.

Room Tip: Going toward Waimea, exit parking lot + turn L on Hulemalu. The scenic back rd. passes a quaint pro...

Spotless, quiet, basic hotel with all you need, including a healthy breakfast served poolside. The staff, friendly and welcoming. Nestled in the mountains far from the bustle and yet close enough to drive anywhere you need to be We stayed at this hotel after staying in a very expensive house in Poipu rented by family and judging by the price had our expectation set low. We were so pleasantly surprised this hotel far far exceeded the fancy house in the fancy neighborhood. We will be back for sure!

It is always difficult to tell what a hotel will actually look like when all you have is their own website pictures to go on. However, I think the Kauai Inn is pretty true to their photos. The staff has been friendly and knowledgeable. We know this isn't the nicest place around town, but great for the price. I have some back problems, but have slept comfortably. We have used their sand mats & beach towels everyday. We swam in the 3' pool, no hot tub. Pool is okay, but we didn't come here for the pool. Probably the only complaint we have is that it isn't spotless, clean, but not super clean. We found a used water bottle under our bed & some dust up in the ceiling corners, but nothing bothersome or gross. We would stay here again because we like the room without resort prices.

We truly enjoyed our stay here! The Inn was charming, with a real island feel. The continental breakfast was good, a few more island-type fruits would have been nice, but it was a good way to start the day. The woman who checked us in, I didn't catch her name, but she is a Hawaiian native, was very friendly and helpful with maps of local hikes that we could take. We will recommend this to all of our friends when they visit the beautiful island of Kauai!

I stayed here a few nights before meeting up with my friends, and loved my time here. I'm in my late 20s, and just wanted a nice place to get away from everything for a few days. My lanai looked out to the mountains and a nearby boat pier. The room was great, bed was SUPER comfortable, & I was thankful for the mini fridge. I can't say enough about the hospitality I received from the hostess. She was SO helpful with where to go, how to get there, recommendations, and checking in with me over breakfast about how my trip was going, etc. It felt like she was an aunt, just opening her home for all of us visitors! Mahalo until we meet again! :)

Room Tip: Ask for a queen's lanai room, looking towards the mountains.

Kauai Inn was great. It is located in a central location, so you can easily access the entire island. They offer fresh breakfast every morning. The staff is considerate, knowledgeable, and helpful. I would stay here again!

Very nice, laid back hotel. We chose it for the value, and the free continental breakfast each morning (bread, muffins, coffee, fruit). This isn't a hotel you'll likely spend a full day relaxing at - this is geared more toward the active adventurer not wanting to break the bank on a large resort. The location is prime for those wanting to travel to North, South, and East shores. Parking wasn't a problem - we arrived home after 10 most nights and still got a spot. Our air conditioner worked perfectly. The cable TV (not that we had time to watch it) had more channels than I do at home. Free wi-fi in the outdoor lobby (where breakfast is held every morning.) I couldn't have asked for anything more from a hotel!

Room Tip: building 3 has good view of the mountains
