“Brief stay at the Kaua'i Inn”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 June 2012

We stayed for three nights at this place and found it to be as we expected. It's an older place but it is well-kept and had nice amenities - the breakfast, Wi-Fi (in the breakfast area), working AC (a bit loud but it works), nice quiet out-of-way place (some people complain about the crowing roosters - they are all over the place and it happens all over the island at all times of the day - so get used to it!),

Overall it is good-value for the money (we used it mainly as a clean quiet place to drop our bags and sleep). If you need a full-pledged pleasure resort, I would suggest going to the swanky places in Poipu that charge at least twice (and even higher) the rate that this place charges.

I would return to this place next time we visit Kaua'i.

Room Tip: Ask for a second level room (more space) close to the parking lot - then you won't hear the nois...

We arrived at the Kauai Inn. The look on my girlfriends face was priceless. Where at Motel 3. Oh well let check in. The front desk Clerk Paula seemed to be friendly. We got there a little early and asked if the room was ready it was. My girlfriend asked if we don't like the room can we change. Paula said oh it a very Romantic room. With a optimistic attitude we went to the room. It was OK a little small with a porch with two chair a lounge chair an a small table. I decided to sit out on the porch the first thing I saw was the owner house across the lawn. He let his two pit bulls out of his truck and they went out on the lawn and guess what the first romantic thing I saw was the [--] take a dump. That really put me in the mood. A mood of laughter. Romantic???? Anyway the next morning at four the roosters started crowing. On by the way this place is by a recycling center and a loading dock for containers. You get to here back up alarms beep, beep and more beeps. Needless to say we didn't stay in the room except to sleep after I went to Longs and bought a package of ear plugs. The pool and the Lanai are is run down to say the least. The continental breakfast is Costco supplied. YUM YUM. Don't sit at the table under the awning or you'll get termite pellets on your food or in your coffee. Kauai is awesome a lot of places to enjoy. But save your money and stay at a real resort you will be much happier. The cleaning ladies leave the door open when they clean and guess what mosquitoes like to fly in and suck your blood where your not looking. I was in the bathroom doing by business I looked down and a little mosquito was guess where biting me on my private. When I said to myself what's that he flew to the wall where I smashed him and got a squirt of blood on my hand. The walls a re paper thin and you don't have to try to listen to your neighbor. It like there in the room with you. Between the dogs, chickens , beeping and the mosquitoes I didn't stay at the Motel very much. I went to some of the Bigger and Better Resorts and dreamed I was staying there. Overall if your on a budget and don't mind all of the things mentioned than this is the place for you. If not save up a few more dollars and stay at the name Brand Resorts. Oh Ya I must have passed by Paula 20 times during the 10days and never once got a good morning or how is it going. Koodies ot you Paula. You know 10 days was not enough Kauai is awesome. So if Kauai is your detestation then I would saw the Island is a 10.

Room Tip: Stay at a name brand Resort. I don't think there is a quite room at the Motel 3.

Mahalo for your extended ten night stay at our historic Kauai Inn. We, the staff and management, care about our guest's experiences. Kauai Inn takes pride in offering a clean comfortable room, beautiful setting at a value with Aloha. Our concern is your ten night stay with never a complaint to any of our staff until your review!
If you and your girl friend had expressed dissatisfaction, we feel confident that we could have remedied your displeasure or helped you both to relocate to another hotel or inn.

Paula was trained and a front desk staff at the famous Four Seasons Hotel in New York City. She is very friendly and professional with lots of aloha. Paula wishes to apologize if you folks walked by and she did not acknowledge you at any time. Again our management and staff sincerely regret any discomforts you and your girl friend endured.

We do notice your other similar review postings on Trip Advisor! Thank you for taking your time to write our review as it is most helpful to us. Mahalo for giving our beautiful Island of Kauai a ten! Best to you both on any future travel.

Sincerely,

Kauai Inn Staff & Management

This is a much older place. We liked it because it was quiet. There is no beach, you have to travel to the beach. It's about 1 mile away. The rooms are very basic. WiFi on the patio. Free breakfast, but they don't start till 8. Seven would have been better for us. Small pool area, shallow, good for small children. Very nice people. Really liked it.

Room Tip: There is only a wall unit airconditioner, but we never ran it. We opened the glass and let the breez...

I decided to book this property after eading great reviews. I was very disappointed. I had a choice of this and another property but decided on this one when the description said there were views of the harbor. Upon entering the room (on the first floor) I quickly saw that it was not a bay view. When my husband asked he was told they were not an ocean view hotel even though their website does says that some rooms have views of NawiliWili harbor. Although the continental breakfast was nice their were not very many places to sit so we brought ours back to our room. The pool was nice. we were the only ones there that had pool towels because we asked for them. On the plus side ther air conditioning worked well even though it was loud. We only stayed the one night and I would think twice about staying there again.

Very personal service, excellent morning brunch, coffee available 24/7, great view of mountains, and close to many very good dining choices in all price ranges. We will be staying there again.

This is a great hotel to stay in. It is off the main highway and is very quiet except for the normal Hawaiian alarm clocks (the crowing roosters). We are early risers so that did not bother us. It is located within a residential area and is interesting to walk around the area and see the houses. There is a park nearby where the members of the community and the local canoe club hold jam sessions - not loud and very enjoyable to listen to. The setting is fabulous and you wake to sunshine on the verdant mountain backdrop. Don't let the hotel's position near the docks put you off - you dont see the containers and the cruise ships until you are leaving the area for other parts.
The hotel has been around for a long time in one form or another and several guests we spoke to were repeat guests over several years. The staff Corrine, Paula and Dionya are friendly, helpful and glad to help in any way they can.
We had booked a queen sized room but found the bed to be no more than a double bed. We queried this and they immediately upgraded us to a King sized bedroom at no extra cost.
There is an onsite laundry for guests to use.
The hotel is a low rise double storied complex of four buildings located around a very clean swimming pool. Breakfast is served overlooking the pool. A continental breakfast but with a good variety, especially fresh fruit. There are only four tables and chairs and so it can get busy.
There is plenty of parking and the tropical gardens are maintained beautifully. There are a couple of friendly cats - in particular Jezabel with her bling collar who follows the staff around. The other large fluffy cat will come into your room if you let it. One stormy night it was sitting waiting for my husband to open the door and in it bounced, quite at home.
The upper storey rooms are larger than the lower ones. The latter have a small porch at the back which is nice if you like to sit out early morning or late evening, but it does cut into the size of the room, so I would plug for the upper storey and sit out in the open air breakfast area or around the pool. However, there is no lift so you will need to take that into consideration if you have walking difficulties or your luggage is large or heavy.
The rooms are all thankfully geko proof so don't leave your door open for them to creep in.
In the evenings, the hotel puts out some yummy trail mix and other crunchies for guests to enjoy while sitting in the breakfast area reading or using the wifi. If you are walking around the yard during the night, watch out for the toads.
The wifi is intermittent and works best in the breakfast area. It also works best early in the morning. There is a computer for use by guests but no way to print out documents.
If you want to eat cheaply you can eat at the Harbour Mall - it has a good Thai restaurant, A pizza place (also serves huge serves of good ice cream) and a Mexican place as well. There is happy hour at least two restaurants. During the day, particularly when the cruise ships are in they hold a small hula dancing session in the courtyard.
There is also a very good yarn store in the complex if you are into knitting. The other shops are mainly imported (Phillipines or China) souvenirs.
The hotel also has an affiliation with an ATV company. They offer good deals and if you are interested get the hotel to contact them on your behalf.
There is a good Times Supermarket in a large shopping complex about 10 mins drive away. Walmart is also about 10 - 15 mins drive away. It does not matter where you stay in Kauai, you will need a car to get around.
The rooms are large and the beds very comfortable. There is a large flat screen TV, a microwave, coffee machine, fridge and an iron and ironing board. The rooms are cleaned daily and the beds made.
If you wanted to self cater you could use the BBQ area at the rear of the hotel.
This hotel is good value and we highly recommend it.

Room Tip: The rooms numbered 200 and 300 are the newer rooms. The 300s get better wififi reception. Get a r...

This hotel has very friendly and accommodating staff. It is almost amongst Hawaiian suburbia, meaning it is in a very quiet and relaxing part of town. The place is also very clean and a good location near Lihue. The rooms are a good size and the bathroom is huge! You will need a car to reach the main attractions, but this is common on Kauai anyway.
