“Heavenly!”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

My partner and I stayed for 7 nights here, and we enjoyed every minute of our stay. When we arrived we were shown to our room personally by one of the reception staff, who gave us information about the resort and our room as we went along. We had an Ocean view room, the view was beautiful, we were lucky that our room was pretty close to the beach so was great to sit out on the balcony and watch the waves. The rooms are nicely laid out, very comfortable beds, and the shower is fantastic! only downside is there was no bathtub. The products they provide are all L'Occitane. There are Nespresso machines in the rooms and they provide 6 free capsules, if you want more than that you can buy them in the gift shop, or do what I did and bring more with you from home.

We had breakfast included in our booking and it was superb, They provide a continental buffet and you can also choose one entree each. We ate at the Red Salt restaurant one night and the meal we had was also great. There are two bars, one by the pool, the other next to the restaurant, both are great and the staff are very friendly, we had many really good cocktails there.

They have a desk where you can grab beach towels, hire water sports equipment and book surfing lessons, the guys who work there was really helpful and gave us lots of information about which beaches where best for snorkeling, and what areas to avoid.
If you hire a car for your trip then the only option is valet parking, this is included in the resort fee. The guys who do the valet parking are the best! so friendly, helpful and professional. As our flight was quite late at night and check out is at 12, we were really happy to discover they provide a complimentary departure service were you can hire a room with a shower for an hour, this meant that we could have a day by the pool and at the beach. We had a massage at the on site spa, it was fantastic! really recommend the lomi lomi. If you do then you might want to book ahead by emailing the hotel as they get booked up.

This resort is boutique, its not very big, but that is what we loved about it. Its not somewhere you would probably want to take children to as they would get bored, its more suited to couples on their honeymoon. The level of service they provide is just fantastic, all the staff are so helpful and friendly, This is probably the best hotel i've stayed in for that. We can't wait to go back.

We stayed for 5 nights, and everyday was wonderful. We had the breakfast package, so we had a complimentary breakfast everyday. All of the main course options were delicious. The hotel is right on the beach, and we were able to order food and drinks while viewing the ocean. Everyone was very nice and welcoming. We can't wait to come back!

Soft, fluffy mattress cover made the bed very comfortable. Quiet air conditioner which we used constantly because of the high humidity. At first I didn't think our first floor ocean view room had enough privacy because people were lounging on the grassy area close to our patio and people were walking by on the sidewalk. But the curtains provide enough privacy and I loved having a larger patio than the upper floors with a chaise lounge to myself. Only problem was we wanted 2 beds and this was not communicated properly by Costco to the hotel which cost me a $450 upgrade for the week. They have a very limited number of rooms with two beds so if this is what you need you need to make sure, directly with the hotel, that a double room is available. The Costco deal worked well for us: included mandatory resort fee, breakfast every morning, stay 4 nights get 1 free, and $150 food, beverage, or store credit. Used it to buy additional Nespresso pods in gift shop (10 for $10). They were really good and since I knew ahead of time that extras had to be purchased it was not a surprise. I was worried about having breakfast everyday in the same restaurant but there was so much variety that breakfast was fabulous everyday. Especially loved the lemon souffle pancakes which I learned about from other Tripadvisor reviewers and fresh sliced pineapple and papaya, cheese and meats, breads, wonderful guava juice. We planned our day trips around breakfast and told the servers when we were in a hurry and they were wonderfully accommodating. Having tip included was a surprise for us since we tipped the waitress the first day. we checked our room charges on the TV and that is when we found out we double tipped. We also found charges from the boutique that we did not make which were promptly removed. I suggest checking your room charges daily. Another reviewer suggested getting mai tais from lobby bar rather than pool bar - the cost is around $4 more for a bigger drink in the lobby, not better-just bigger. Hotel grounds are pretty plain and simple but I did not want to stay in a Disney style resort so I got what I wanted-close to great beaches and lots of choices for food and activities nearby after a good night's sleep.

Room Tip: Ocean view near the ocean is quiet and away from bar and pool. Full ocean view would have been nice...

We had a romantic couples vacation during a week of perfect weather. I don't stay much in a room, but the bed and sheets were fantastic. Property is "U" shaped, with top of U to ocean, so partial ocean view can be anywhere along the inside or outside. The service, from valets to waiters to bartenders was absolutely fabulous. The whirlpool was great after an 8 mile hike in Na Poli. the beach chairs were very nice, and they constantly gave you nice towels to take with you everywhere. Red Salt was good, though packed frequently, so get a reservation. They do provide a free great breakfast and $50 daily credit towards food and beverage.

The downsides: Partial ocean view offered little privacy, with views of all of the other guests down the line. twice daily bed making did not include replacing any cups or glasses for coffee or wine. $50 credit offset by resort fee and automatic 15% tip on all food and beverage. Beach very small and rocky.

Room Tip: Get ocean view. Partial offers little privacy, or views.

Stayed at this property May 13 thru May 18 and it was wonderful. We loved that it was a small property vs a large resort everything was just so convenient. We were less than 100 yards to the beach or to the restaurant or our car. The pool and bar were even closer, no long walks or elevator rides. We had a partial ocean view room which was good but next trip I would opt for the ocean front. The staff are great especially the valet guys who really make sure you have whatever you need for your daily adventures, if you have any. We only ventured out twice preferring just to hang at the hotel. Their restaurant the "Red Salt" is amazing, great dinner menu and the food was excellent. They have a unique breakfast buffet where you pick your sides, fruit meat cheeses cereal and such but then your order your made to order entree which is substantial, after the first day we had to tell server to cut back on portions. I would highly recommend this property and look forward to returning in the future.

I could only give sleep quality an average rating because we needed an extra firm mattress and beds here tend to be on the softer side. The hotel did all they could to firm up our mattress by placing more support under the bed. I would still return.

Room Tip: Pick an ocean front if possible, just for the view. The courtyard/pool rooms were fine, no noise bu...

The Koa Kea was such a nice escape from our kids, and everyone else's kids! If you are looking for a mostly couples resort in Kauai, this is the place! The Koa Kea is nicely situated from the beach, and we often saw whales in background playing in the evening. We ate most of our meals at the resort for two reasons. The food was spectacular and we had a $75 a day food credit. We signed up for the IPrefer and booked our room with the IPrefer (through the hotel website) and that included free breakfast AND the $75 food credit. I don't know if there is anywhere else we would have wanted to eat, so we just ate there and enjoyed everything!
The rooms are a little small, but if it is just you and one other person it's fine. One small complaint (that I read before booking) was the smaller, not so private balconies. I sat out on the balcony several times to read, but when someone next to us came out to their balcony it was a little uncomfortable. I still enjoyed the partial ocean view and I could watch the surfers from where we were.
If you are looking for a clean, modern, quiet escape on the South shore, this is no doubt the best choice. I enjoyed every minute and cannot wait to hopefully go back next Spring!

Room Tip: Sign up for the IPrefer to get great rates and food credit. The partial ocean view was still an exce...

Great resort! We stayed in a partial ocean view room that had a beautiful private balcony from which you could both see and hear the ocean. Enjoyed leaving our balcony door open at night to listen to the ocean. Fabulous pool and pool bar. Pool was never too crowded, even for it's small size. Afternoon bartender made delicious cocktails and gave great recommendations for restaurants in Kauai. We loved making coffee in our room each morning and walking the beach! Rented beach chairs for the beach from the resort - nice chairs! I also saw a member of staff give surfing lessons to 2 young boys - he was patient, kind, and knowledgable. Just watching the lesson made me feel like I could take up surfing too!
