“Great Location, Friendly Staff, Average Garden View Accommodations”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 January 2014

We enjoyed our 8-night stay at this small, lovely resort situated on a wonderful beach. We were in building 6, on the third floor of a garden view room. Velvet who checked us in (with her trainer by her side) was friendly and efficient. Our housekeeper, Mila, was diligent and friendly as well.

We didn't have high expectations after reading a few of the reviews of the garden-view rooms, so we weren't at all disappointed. Also, our plans were to be outdoors all day, so the room was really just a place to sleep and shower. If you want a pampered or luxurious experience, I would not recommend buildings 3 - 8.

Rooms: Room 6308, clean and big enough for the two of us who were primarily using the room as a place to rest our heads between hiking, swimming and snorkeling. Comfortable king bed in this room with soft linens and two types of pillows provided. The sliding doors are squeaky, so they will disturb you from your sleep as others wonder in and out from the balcony. The tub area could use an overhaul; the vent and other metal surfaces are either rusting or covered in mineral buildup. Not a big deal to me, though.

Beach: Offers soft sand and great swimming with gentle waves in the winter. For *intermediate* to *advanced* snorkelers (do not want people to get cut up by reef or have them panic and stand up on delicate coral), the snorkeling on the right side (as you look out on the water, where the rocks are located) of the beach offers great snorkeling when the water is calm. Same for Poipu Beach Park. Schools of large fish were on the far right side of the beach (in front of Marriott's Waiohai Beach Club), not by the tombolo. Surfers usually take up this space, so be aware.

Pool and pool area: On the smallish side, but its size made it feel more intimate and friendly. One wavy pool, with hot tub, and kid's pool.

Staff: All had the Aloha spirit -- always quick to smile. Thanks to Mila, Velvet and Sandy for their great service.

Restaurants: Lava's had pretty standard fare. Salads, tacos, and fish entrees. Rum Fire offered pizza in addition to other standard "American" food. Decent not great. The service was attentive and friendly. Would be nice if they offered Hawaiian fare. Resort prices.

Fitness Center: Clean, fairly large, well lit with ocean view. Two elliptical machines, half dozen treadmills, full rack of dumbbells (up to 50 pounds), two types of bikes and a cable-system all over body machine. Mats, water, and towels provided.

Property: Not the grand landscaping you would normally see at a resort hotel, but you can see that it is lovingly maintained. In no way was it disappointing... you're on Kauai for goodness sake. The sunsets on this hotel cannot be beat due to its location right the beach facing SW.

Good to know:

1. Ice machines are located on the northeast end of the garden view buildings, on the odd-numbered floors. Book accordingly, so you're not right next to one.
2. If you are more of a self-service person, and are using this place as a motel, building three is the closest to the self-parking lot with buildings four, five, etc., being farther away.
3. Their restaurants, Rum Fire and Lava's, are not open every day. Be sure to check the hours, so you can plan for food outside the premises and ensure you make it there in time as most restaurants in town close early.
4. For those celebrating an anniversary, the complimentary "champagne" is a sparkling wine out of California. Too sweet. Save yourself the wait -- and the spike in glucose -- and get some champagne at the restaurant or buy your own from Big Save.
5. The 30.00+ tax resort fee does not go out to the service staff. Be sure to tip your housekeeper!

Room Tip: 1. If you want a special experience at the Sheraton, book a room in Building One Oceanfront. Pu...

Aloha LovesNoodles,

Thank you for choosing Sheraton Kauai Resort and for taking the time to review your recent experience with us. We are pleased the resort served as a great launching point for the hiking, snorkeling and swimming that many of our guests enjoy at or around the resort and appreciate you highlighting the resort's lovely oceanfront location. We were sorry to hear the resort did not exceed your expectations in areas such as dining as we strive to create lasting memories in each area of service. Our signature restaurant, RumFire, does pride itself in Hawaii-rooted cuisine, however, for guests seeking more traditional Hawaiian fare, the resort also offers an exciting weekly luau that features an array of traditional island dishes. Your comments have been shared with our team to continually improve the guest experience at Sheraton Kauai, and we hope you will consider staying with us again in the future. Mahalo.

Sheraton Kauai, is an older resort. Our room was facing the beach in Koloa, Kauai. We had Starwood Gold amenities like a 10% food discount free valet parking. The room was good sized with a very nice bed. The bathroom was clearly old with the shower in the tub. Some of the worst bath products. There were no snacks etc., however we had two bottles of water everyday. It has been a long time that at a higher brand hotel resort like the Sheraton they would have plastic glasses and paper coffee cups! I called and they did bring glass glasses. The Wi-Fi was included as part of the Gold status but it was awful. It basically would not work with our iPhones or my iPad. The rooms were $295 a day plus $32 per day resort fee. The staff was great and the view was excellent. Kauai is beautiful and much more low key and friendly than the other islands we have visited. We were here for our middle daughter's wedding and we can not wait to return. Probably not at this resort.

Room Tip: The beach rooms second or third floor are the best

We stayed 5 nights in Sheraton Kauai as our next stop in Hawaii. In general I would say this is a happy stay.

Our room is spacious, as well as the bathroom. Room is well cleaned and housekeeper always checked with us if we have any further needs.

All staff they are very friendly and helpful, esp. the concierge, they are superbe and helped us with everything!

The Poipu beach is breathtaking, amazing! I had lots fun there at beach by renting a cabana or by having a complimentary pool chair.

I also used the fitness center everyday, though not quite big, the machines are all new and well maintained.

Sleeping was good, while the bed seems bit too soft for me but cannot blame the hotel anyway.

The restaurants hotel recommended are all nice (as ling as those we have tried like Plantation Garden, Red Salt, Kiosks, Dolphine, and the RumFire which is the hotel restaurant).

Link cafe is something I also like, enjoyed the yogurt cup and chocolate muffin there.

Here come some points that I hope hotel could improve:
1) wifi is really poor... No matter my room, the pool, RumFire, The Lava, gym, even lobby... Since you charged the resort fee which includes the free wifi, it's necessary to make sure wifi works;

2) breakfast is expected to be better. The choices are limited and for my 5 days not a change at all. Like juice I was expecting the fresh squeezed (in a place where full of fruits), definitely you can make it better;

3) if you could have more shades around pool area it would be delighted, I do understand people are there for sun bath, but also sometimes we are too heated and want some cool place.

Overall, this is a good stay :)

This message is long overdue but I feel that it is important to still write it. My husband and I booked our anniversary trip here in March for our stay in October. We initially had chosen to stay in a condo but our travel agent highly recommended the Sheraton. We took her advice and booked our trip, making sure that we had a king bed and a partial ocean view upon booking. I had read many reviews on here about the Sheraton not being able to fulfil their guest needs when it comes to the correct room that they paid for and booked. With this fear in the back of my mind, I called one month prior to make sure that we would indeed be getting the room we paid for. Not only did I call, so did our Travel Agent a week prior, we were both told that we would be getting a King Bed Partial Ocean view. We arrived around 7 pm on 10/16 to only find out that we were NOT getting the room that we paid for. The front desk lady not sure of her exact name, Anna or something close, told us if we had arrived sooner we would have gotten the correct room. We were beyond disappointed and immediately asked to speak to a manager. The manager that was on duty was Peter. He was very cold and told us since we didn't book directly through them that there was no guarantee on the room that we would be getting. He told us that the best he could do was to put us in a room with 2 queen beds and then he would try to move us the next day. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This is absolutely the worst customer service that we have seen out of all the islands. We went to our room and it was disgusting, mold on the walls and very outdated. I went back (husband was beyond angry) to talk to Peter and asked for his help. We were to the point of calling our travel agent and moving somewhere else. Miraculously Peter found a king bed ocean view and moved us but only because we complained. This is the problem with this resort is that they would gladly take your money but they do not care if you are satisfied or not. Throughout the remainder of our trip, we witnessed several people not getting the room that they booked. It appears that they just move people around in hopes that people do not get angry. I still can’t believe that the Sheraton feels that this is okay. We saw Peter several times during our week there and never once did he stop and ask how the new room was nor did he even smile at us. This is our 4th time coming to the Hawaiian islands and by no means are we picky people, in fact we come there because we love Hawaii and our hotel is not where we spend the majority of our time. We saved our entire summer for this trip and to make our anniversary special and it was important to us that we had a king bed. My point of this review is to not take a chance and hope that they will not give your room that you paid for away, read the reviews, I should have listened to them. I will add that the Sheraton is an ok resort, nothing fancy but the location is what is keeping this place from going under.
We would go back to Poipu in a heartbeat but will not choose this resort again.

We stayed at the Sheraton in Poipu Beach after a week in a beautiful condo at the Puu Poa in Princeville. There are two complexes at the Sheraton Kauai Resort which are across the road from each other. We were at the beach wing in an oceanfront room. If you are going to stay there, you definitely want the beach side. While the room had a beautiful view and a small patio, there was nothing in the room/amenities that was special. If anything, the room was stark. There are no screen doors on the exit to the patio/beach; thus, you cannot get the trade wind breezes in your room. Our package included breakfast which was a standard buffet without any gourmet touches. With the exception of the location, there is nothing about this property (except for the price) which separates it from any other Sheraton. If your looking for a Poipu hotel that is more upscale, go for The Hyatt.

Room Tip: Beach Wing only

We had an amazing honeymoon at the sheraton Kauai! Property is gorgeous and everyone was so nice. Our room the first night was too noisy for us, but the manager (Laura) was incredibly accommodating and gracious, and she found us a gorgeous, quiet room for the rest of our stay. The concierge was also terrific, helping us taylor our itinerary to maximize our stay. I was really impressed by the friendly waitstaff by the beach and pool too. The free scuba lesson in the he pool was very cool, and led us to try a new adventure together. Hope to come back for a milestone anniversary!

We stayed here for 5 days last week and thought the location of this resort was perfect. Resort is located on the south point of the island (Poipu) which made it easy to travel either East (Ke'e beach, airport, or ATV'ing) or West (Harbor for many of the boat tours, Waimea Canyon) on the Island depending on whatever you have planned. The pools were nothing spectacular but we had so much planned that we were never really on property except at night. There is a $30/night resort fee but that included internet, self-parking, and 2 bottles of water/day. There are many little local food places in the area, which we preferred over the onsite restaurants. The bed was like sleeping in plush feathers - I slept like a baby! Over-all we liked the resort and it was exactly what we were looking for on our Kauai trip. (Also, the staff were very nice and welcoming!)
