“Amazing location!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2014

Right on the beach in Poipu - perfect place to relax and enjoy the Hawaiian life! RumFire restaurant was delicious and had tables with a great view of the ocean and sunset. Our only real complaint is that they offered free bottled waters daily; we would rather have refillable water bottles - these make a perfect souvenir and help the environment! With over 300 rooms, that's a lot of plastic every day.

Room Tip: Our garden-view room was great - not necessary to splurge for oceanfront.

Green Features: Really wish the hotel provided a free refillable water bottle at check-in instead of free bottled water daily - especially since they claim to be "green".

There is nothing special about this hotel. We were very underwhelmed for the money and further bothered by the additional $30/day resort fee charge. It's very dated and old, the pool is very simple and small, and the restaurants, bars, gift store are all super pricey. What you're paying for is location and beaches. If you don't plan on upgrading to ocean front, you will find your room across the street and behind the buildings which line the beach. It's a short walk, but still oddly laid out. Parking is easy. The beach is great for surfing. Snorkeling, is slightly difficult during the summer months with high winds and surf, and sadly there is not much thriving reef and marine life.

That said, the staff was friendly and nice, the rooms were clean, and the bed was somewhat comfy.

I would give this hotel 3 stars at most.

As far as clean rooms go, this hotel was fine. However, it was super pricey. We booked through a travel agent and were not made aware of the $30 a day "resort" fee until we checked in. The resort fee is basically for basic internet (which was slow and kicks your out every 5 seconds) and parking which at times were full and we had to park on the street anyways. The bar/restaurant Lava's was SUPER pricey... during "Happy hour" 3 drink ran about $48 bucks... we tried other happy hour places and ordered 3 appetizers and 2 drinks for $22 bucks. The check in personal at the hotel was also rude. our flight came in at 12 and apparently check in is not until 3 PM... we were on our honeymoon and she wanted to set us up in 2 queen beds. When we said no, she rudely told us to find something to do until a clean room becomes available. We were given a room with NO view too after 3 PM... We were set up for a garden view which is not at all what we got. I will not be staying here again.. I heard a lot about this place but was not impressed. For the price we paid it was not at all worth it.

Room Tip: Walls are paper thin.

This is a great hotel. Lots to do nearby and great restaurants just a few minutes away. We stayed in a deluxe oceanfront room that was on the first floor. Highly recommend the Makai Wing of the hotel - less noise on that side of the property that has incredible views of the ocean which is just 25 feet from your room. It may cost a little more than a partial ocean view or garden view but it was definitely worth it

Room Tip: Go for the oceanfront Makai wing. Less noise.

I write this halfway through our stay, sitting on my balcony overlooking a beautiful garden area with a slight glimpse if the ocean.
I must admit, in planning our trip to Kauai I read review after review on all of our "prospects" for potential locations. I perhaps over read and totally stressed out. On this particular location I became really concerned with booking a garden view room based off all of the negative reviews. I decided to just go for it and did it.
Let me tell you right off, we could not be more satisfied. Our room is awesome (would have preferred a king to two queens) and we have go complaints. No bugs, no thin walls, no dirt, etc as others have described.
We had considered asking for an ocean front upgrade but soon realized we are hardly in the room anyway as this resort and the surrounding area are lovely.
We have had no issues with staff or the Lava bar. We have not eaten at Rum Fire or the resort luau.
Be prepared for high prices on food, alcohol and other items. I would recommend stopping at WalMart or Costco on the way to the resort to load up on water, soda, and alcohol
I have had a wonderful 50th birthday celebration as well as an awesome delayed 10 year wedding anniversary with my wife. We could not be happier with this resort!!!!!
There are lots of families and couples at this resort. Makes for an enjoyable experience. We especially like watching the younger kids as we miss our 8 year old son and 19 month old daughter. We definitely want to bring them here on our next trip.
The beach is just a short walk across the street however it can be rough at times, and even a stray Portuguese Man of War.
The pool was nice but it is definitely not top notch as you would find at other resorts. The view however is awesome.
There are plenty of restaurants and shops just a short one mile walk from the resort.
We did not use valet as self parking was easy and always had a space for us.
Thanks Sheraton for a wonderful vacation and looking forward to three more days before it's time to go home.

The Sheraton on Poipu Beach is not a mega resort. It's not too big, not too small, it's just right! We have stayed there several times and will stay again.

However we have always had an oceanfront room, my review might be different if we had been across the street in the garden view buildings.

This is overall a great resort. The location (about 30 minutes south of the airport - without the construction that happened over the July 4 when I was there, taking the main road down to one lane) is great in Poipu with everything you need at the resort. And if you need Starbucks as many do there is one in walking distance. There is a grocery store and tourist shopping, shaved ice, about a 5 minute drive away.
Rum Fire was a very nice restaurant with friendly staff but it felt overpriced for what you get. It's really the only place to hang out in the evenings nearby if you want nighttime cocktails. Lava's outside was casual with better food. I recommend the morning brunch, but watch out for the very aggressive birds who have no problem going for your plate. If you are a Starwood Gold or higher you can get 10% off on food at either restaurant.
The rooms were well appointed with comfortable beds and black out curtains. It was nice to have laundry and ice/vending nearby. I appreciated that there was a refrigerator in the room.
The cell service (AT&T) throughout the resort was horrible. Wifi was spotty by the pool - they could use a booster out here. The pool staff was very attentive which was great. Poolside cabana rental (they call it something different) with sofa and tv is COMPLETELY worth the money if you have a group - not overpriced like Vegas.
There is a beach right in front which is great if you don't want to use the pool. They could use more umbrellas, if you don't want to be in the sun by the pool there is limited coverage.

Green Features: I appreciated that the hotel was running on 'green' premises.
