This is the perfect destination for a relaxing trip to Kauai. We stayed in a two bedroom unit and both rooms were quite large. We actually had a hard time deciding which one was the master suite until we located the safe in the closet. The kitchen and living room are spacious and have great views. Now the good part, 3 whirlpools, 4 swimming pools and a fabulous beach. There are plenty of chairs located both in shaded areas and in the sun. for whatever suits your mood at that moment. The bar serves great drinks and wonderful grilled assortment of foods. Drinks are on the spendy side, but the Lava Flows are worth every penny.
I was extrememly impressed with the staff. They are extrememly knowledgeable and very helpful. The only real issue we had with the facility is the wind that howls down the hallways when it is windy outside. Since the ends of the hallways are open, it creates a tunnel affect that sounds like banshees in an old horror movie.

We visited Kauaii and stayed here for almost one week. The hotel was excellent. The service was very good and the facilities are terrific. The hotel is petty large but we found that it still gave us a homey feel. It is close to almost everything.

This is our fourth trip to the Waiohai and we give it a solid "all thumbs up" after our recent visit. Make sure you go watch Miss Linda's demonstrations. She is lively, humorous and full of interesting snippets about her beloved Kauai. We watched her carve up a pineapple 3 separate ways. It was a great way to spend a rainy hour. While you are in Poipu make sure you try a plate lunch from Sueokas up in Koloa and enjoy the view from Brenneckes. We did not get a very good view this trip but who spends very much time in the rooms. Rooms, by the way, are excellent, well stocked, roomy and quiet. Note to the Marriott, get better pillows.

This Marriott resort is truly perfection for a relaxing vacation. What made this so special was that the south part of Kauai gets the most sun, and December through March is whale season and you can sit on the hotel beach and watch the whales swim buy which absolutely stunned us. You see the water spouts shooting up, then whates fins, then actual breaching of the water. They were so close some of my pictures show people in the waves and the whales in the background. What we loved so much was the magnificent gardens in front of our 2 bedroom unit. It was absolutely the nicest landscaping hotel area we have experienced.

Surprisingly we thought our biggest disappointment would be they did not have a full service restaurant at the hotel, but they did have a small cozy restaurant and bar right next to the beach and at lunch the food was terrific and even in the evenings they grilled great fish and had a number of choices as you sat watching the swimmers surf and the whales go by at sunset and then a beautiful sunset. We even had a huge ancient turtle come up on the beach and a seal. We loved sitting here in the evening, but on a few nights we went across the street from the back of our hotel to a great shopping center with a general store and quite a few restaurants which were top quality which we really enjoyed.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the beautiful garden are quiet and a beautiful setting.

We had a wonderful time staying here. The rooms are spacious, they offer villas with full kitchens. The views are wonderful with a great beach. I wish they would've had a full restaurant on site to sit down for breakfast, other than just the outdoor patio. Showers could use some improvements as they have build up of stuff. Otherwise, I would stay again and bring friends/family.

We had a wonderful experience at Waiohai. We came here after a week at the Ko Olina Beach Club on Oahu, and were immediately struck by how much more intimate and homey this resort feels. It is small enough that the staff will recognize and acknowledge you by name. yet there is still plenty to do--kids in particular loved their craft activities, the geo-caching hunt, and the fishing in the lagoon. The staff also obviously cares about the guests and the resort. We were there in December, and enjoyed their Christmas Tree lighting ceremony--they presented a magnificent hula and gave gifts to all the kids; the love and care they put into everything was obvious.

The facilities and ground were also excellent, and the beach is one of the best we have ever enjoyed--snorkeling was also great! On the issues of views: my recommendation is just get an island view. As long as you are facing the interior courtyard, you will enjoy lovely Hawaiian landscaping, and if you still want an ocean view the beach is no more than a two minute walk from anywhere in the resort, and beach front lounge chairs were always open. Will also say, there are island view rooms that probably have a better view than most of the ocean view--we had island view in Hale 2; while we were tucked in a corner, we had a great partial ocean view from the balcony. (Have uploaded a picture).

All in all, HIGHLY recommend this resort, especially if you need a break from the mega-resorts most people visit when in Hawaii.

Room Tip: Just get an Island View and ask for interior courtyard; All those views are great and saves you from...

I sorted through pages and pages of reviews on this property and decided to stay here anyway, abandoning any hope of ocean view. We booked through Marriott's hotel site. If you book these 2 BR villas as hotel rooms you do get full maid service every day, so the reviewers that complain about lack of maid service must be doing timeshare exchanges or stays. The villas are wonderful - one of the best beaches on Kauai during the winter/spring weather, with plentiful beach chairs, an incredibly and universally friendly staff (even the maintenance guy held the elevator for us) and tons of activities for the whole family. The vibe is a bit less tony that the nearby glamorous Hyatt Regency -- but other guests are friendly and we didn't have any issues with kids running up and down the hallways. Parking is $10 a day and can be challenging given the small spaces (note: rent a SMALL car on Kauai if you can, much easier to park).

Most of the negative reviews are people who booked ocean view and weren't happy with their view. If you want ocean view, seriously find another property... there are only a few ocean view rooms and most are reserved for the owners. Of those, a micro percentage are ocean FRONT. But the garden view and jungle view rooms are nice. There are some dreaded parking lot view units that would be pretty miserable to be in. I hope they give a good discount for those.

Here are our tips from our wonderful stay:

- Eat next door at Red Salt. Both the dining room and the sushi bar (lounge area only) are amazing.
- Walk to Keoki's for dinner, bookable on open table. Show them your Marriott card they give you in your welcome packet and you get a free dessert. Great food at fair prices with a Tiki Room Disneyland vibe. You can cut through Kiahuna Plantation parking lot next door to avoid walking on the road until you cross it at the first intersection to the left as you walk out of the resort.
- The pool bar has a great happy hour with very cheap drinks from 4-6. Very festive and easy to make friends down there.
- Don't be a chair blanket hog. There are plenty of chairs - no need to "reserve" one with your towel.
- Don't expect early check in or late check out. This place is busy.
- Walk next door to Brenneckes Beach Broiler for good salads and burgers, nice for lunch. Show up at noon or before, or be prepared for a 20-45 minute wait. FREE dessert with the Marriott welcome pack discount card.
- Decent snorkeling is out on the beach to the left. Bring some fish food ($4 at the beach scuba snorkel shack) and they will swarm you. There's not much coral to see.

Also the time share pitch which accompanied the welcome packet was low key and friendly. No pressure. I can't for the life of me understand why anyone buys a time share but that's for another place and time.

Overall this is a nice resort, much better than the Keolina in Oahu which we found crowded and too big to navigate. From the farthest rooms you are on the beach in 5-7 mins depending how fast you walk and where on the beach you go.

Also amazing sunset watching.

Other reviewers have commented on the condition of the rooms. I stay at a lot of Marriotts and I'd say this one is above average. No worn carpets or sofas. Bathrooms and unit totally spotless. Yes the bathroom exhaust fans are loud and strong-- the shower curtain actually moves when you turn it on! But good to keep mildew and moisture away. Mattresses are in need of replacement... there are indentations forming and a little hump in the middle, but I just sank right in and slept away, even through the roosters that are all over the island (double paned windows keeps most of the sound out)

Also a nice huge fitness center (windowless..) which was totally empty each time we visited.

A great resort for a family vacation.

Room Tip: Just beg for anything that doesn't face a parking lot. You can ask for ocean view and have the...
