We just spent a week in Kauai at the Marriott and loved it! Our son was only 1 so we couldn't take advantage of the hotel's activities but was quite impressed. The grounds are absolutely stunning and the view is breathtaking. My only advise is to stop at the Costco in Lihue because there isn't much in Poipu. We hope to come back very soon!

This resort if overrun with roosters and chickens. It is so bad that you can't sit by the pool because there are roosters and chickens running underneath your lounge chair. The bartenders actually give out spray bottles to the patrons having lunch so they can spray away the roosters and chickens. We had a so-called ocean view room and we overlooked a field where hundreds of them were nesting. They actually come up and run all over the patios on the rooms that are on the ground floor. The front desk did not feel they had a problem, but we went to the Sheraton Kauai and the Marriott Beach Club and they did not have a problem. Also, the property allows young children into the hot tubs, even though the signs specifically preclude children under age 10.

We stayed here for a week in September on an exchange. This was our 3rd time at this resort. I called ahead of time and requested a courtyard/garden view. Check in was quick, our room was ready at 3pm which in my experience is unusual. We were in Hale 6 which overlooked the gardens and Palm trees, the walk to the beach was a 3-5 minutes. The downside to this bldg is parking, there is limited outside parking or you can park underground and wind your way around to get to Hale 6. There is also only 1 luggage cart that covers the elevator for 5&6.

The weekly activity sheet said that they are in the process of updating the Villas with new curtains, couches, seating in the dining area, flatscreen TVs and other soft goods. The villas are already nice but this is a definite plus.

Dining is limited to food service at the bar until only 3pm (at least that is what I read) and the marketplace. But with the kitchen, BBQs and several dining options nearby its not a big deal. Do your shopping at Big Save or Costco, the marketplace is outrageously expensive.

I love the beach here for snorkeling although the current can be strong, The Waiohai is a great place to relax.

The Waiohai is a great place for families in a great location, right on Poipu beach. We stayed for a week with 4 children under the age of 9. Pools and beach access were great. Service was wonderful. This is not a full service hotel, meaning room service only once per week.
The size of the 2 room villas was wonderful as was having a full kitchen. We utilized the BBQ by the pools almost everyday. The grounds are kept very clean.

I would recommend staying here for anyone with children who is looking for a clean, safe place on the beach.

Just got back from the Waiohai Marriott. By far, this is our best Marriott vacation. Pros: The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and although we didn't get a king bed, we were otherwise happy with our room. As other reviewers have suggested, I recommend calling ahead of time and asking for a Garden View room. There are only 7 hotel rooms and the rest are villas/time shares. You can book the villas, but as for the less expensive hotel rooms, don't get stuck with a parking lot view. The pools were lovely and well-maintained. The property is very kid friendly and great for families. However, there is a pool that usually attracts more adults than kids. The beach was beautiful, but a little rocky. On our last day a monk seal had beached itself. Hanalei State Park Beach on the Northside of the island, which is about an hour's drive, has the best beach and is great for kids, elders and for folks like me with mobility problems. But because of the mountains protecting it from the wind, there is no surf, so it's not great for bodysurfing. Book your events and dinner reservations through the concierge. We had problems with our Expedia reservation, but the concierge straightened it all out. Cons: As previously mentioned, other than the hotel deli, which closes at 7pm, there is no restaurant on the property. However, if you book a villa, it has 2 bedrooms with a kitchen, so most stock up at Costco. But if you're renting a hotel room, you'll need to go to nearby or Koloa or Lihue. The room did have a mini fridge, so we bought milk, cereal, and some sandwich fixings to save some money. Dining Recommendations: A bit further out, definitely go to Kapaa for the Wahooo Seafood and Grill restaurant. Wahooo is a mild fish and they make a great sandwich there. Ask for Irene. We thought Bubba's Burgers were over rated. Kalypso's at Hanalei Bay was also great. If want to save money, the hot dogs at Mango Dog are great too. We also highly recommend going to the Beach House restaurant. Again, if possible, see if you can book a reservation before you leave on your trip, so that you can get a table at sunset. We could only get an 8pm reservation, but it was still well worth it. Waimea Canyon was also worth the trek.

Just came back from a week at this hotel- overall a very nice place. Pros: Unpretentious, laid back atmosphere; very nice family ambiance- definitely somwhere you WOULD want to take the kids; beautifully maintained and spacious lawns/grounds areas; roomy living and kitchen area and washer/dryer in the 2 bedroom condos. Cons: The furnishings in the rooms are showing some wear-and-tear but understand interior renovations are in the near future; limited dining option on the property and limited low-moderately priced dining options in the immediate area (as compared to the Lihue area further north on the island); no daily/tbath/beach towel/sheet/maid service without extra cost.

We stayed at the Marriott's Waiohai Beach Club June 9-14 and loved it! We highly recommend this facility. Each unit has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, large dining area, living room, washer/dryer, and well equipped kitchen. Everything looks brand new. The condo and facility grounds were meticulously clean. The master bedroom has a king bed, the second bedroom has a queen bed with a couch that also has a pull out bed so my teenagers each had their own bed. We were on the 4th floor and never heard a peep from any neighbors. The walls are very well insulated. We felt so "at home" here. We could walk right out onto the beach. The pools and hot tubs were lovely. The facility was filled to capacity, but it never felt crowded. Great place to stay! We would stay here again.
