My husband, baby and I have just returned from a 2 week stay at the Nihi Kai. We stayed in unit 300 which was an extremely large and well appointed unit . The large living space was great for our one year old to crawl/wander around - be warned however that the stairs are a great temptation for little ones! The bathrooms are a bit dated but overall the unit was clean and very well equipped. Plenty of extra linens and beach towels and the all important washing machine. The unit has no air con so you need to use the fans and throw open all the doors to catch the breeze. The reverse floor plan helps to keep the bedrooms cooler at night.

The owners have provided beach chairs, mats, coolers and snorkel gear. There is a large book collection and some local travel guides to borrow. (There is also a wine collection with a $10 a bottle charge.)

The grounds are beautifully maintained but the pool area is bit small . We read a review before we left that said babies were not allowed in the pool. We checked - babies can go in providing they are wearing a swim diaper

The beaches are about a 2 minute walk. The Hyatt has a great beach and a fantastic pool area and is also a good spot for brunch or lunch.

Stock up at Safeway in Kapaa - use the club card - it is the cheapest grocery store we found. ( We got off the plane and went straight to Safeway to get it over with !!)

The two downsides to the unit are - it's proximity to Pe'e road - there is light traffic noise and the lack of window coverings upstairs means that there is little privacy at night and no way to shade from the hot sun.

Overall we had a very nice time and were very happy with the unit.

Nihi Kai Villas is the closest resort to Poipu Beach and now they have a unit which is air conditioned - the only air conditioned space at Nihi Kai - it's unit 504 - ask for it and you won't be sorry - excellent ocean view is a plus! We have stayed at Nihi Kai for years but this condo is the best deal around.

We truly enjoyed Nihi Kai. Sure it wasn't brand new but with a four year old and two year, as well as grandma and grandpa it was spacious enough for the kids not to get bored and the property was nice and quiet for naps and for early bedtimes. We enjoyed walking to Poipu beach each day and were lucky enough to point out some sea turtles to the kids. The kids also enjoyed the pool which fronted the shore line. We had sufficient trade winds and slept comfortably each nite. Excellent value and we would recommend to any family looking for space enough for 4 adults and 2 toddlers and don't mind a short 1/4 mile walk to the beach. Excellent grills also on site for those nights you chose to cook in.

My husband and I stayed here in room 403 for 3 nights in May/June this year. It's in an excellent location just about a quarter mile down from Poipu beach and across from Brenecke's beach (rougher and better for boogie boarding than Poipu or Shipwreck) and only about mile from the main shopping / restaurant area in Poipu. The place was huge, clean, and well cared for (they even left snorkel equipment, chairs and beach mats!) and the kitchen had every appliance and dish that you would need. The view was great, and it was close to the pool. Although I think this place is WAY better for families, my husband and I enjoyed it. I had even forgotten directions to the place (which although is mostly personally owned condos you book through the grantham company has front desk main office service on site), and when I called from the airport after hours, their paging service called me back within 5 minutes. The woman on the other end whos name I wish I could remember was SO helpful getting me from the airport to the condos and their after hours key availability is easy to access. Everything was great and we would return in the future!

We spent two weeks in Kauai, choosing the North Shore the first week and the South Shore the second week. Both shores - dramatically different - North is laid back and South is where all the action is. We stayed at the Nihi Kai Villas after reading favorable reviewson Trip Advisor. Unfortunately, we made the wrong choice. We stayed in unit #420 and it was very outdated, the kitchen floor was so filthy I wouldn't walk on it barefooted, the furniture was old and I wouldn't dare take a bath in either bath they were so dirty - only showers. It was just an awful place in severe need of updating, because it has a great view - but even the patio furniture was falling apart! And it was extremely hot - the 'trade winds' do not keep you cool at night and you go to sleep listening to floor and ceiling fans - not the sound of the ocean. Kauai is very different than Maui - Kauai is laid back with very little shopping and Maui has many more restaurants and nice shopping centers, they are both beautiful islands. We would not recommend these condos - which are really apartments.
