“Great place to lounge on the beach!”
Reviewed 24 August 2014

It was pretty busy when I was there but the views and waves were beautiful. Bathrooms are near by, there is some shade, and parking is accessible

“Birthplace of Prince Kuhio”
Reviewed 24 May 2014

This is a small park that was the birthplace of Prince Kuhio, one of the last of the Hawaiian royalty. It is also the site of a small heiau, which is a place where religious and royal ceremonies took place. It's often used today for Hawaiian ceremonies commemorating such events as Kahamehame Day, Prince Kuhio's Birthday, etc. There are a couple of pools and large expanses of lawn along with coconut trees in this quiet little park and across the street, which is also part of the park, is a lovely little lagoon that has some of the best snorkeling on the island.

“a nice little park in a crowded area”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

This is a lovely little park, tailor-made made for a little stroll.

There is a small lagoon, with lava-rock walls. There is an unassuming heiau, a place of ancient worship, used hundreds of years ago by the ancient Hawaiians.

And tons of lawn, begging to be meandered upon. And you should.

It really is a lovely place, not too big and excellent for 20 minutes of respite on the otherwise crowded Poipu Beach area.

It commemorates Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole. He was a reigning - and last - royal in the Kingdom of Hawai'i until it was overthrown in 1893 by businessmen. He was born on these grounds and the foundation of his home can still be seen. After, he went on to serve in the US Congress for 19 years, and did so with aplomb.

“Good snorkeling at the nearby beach”
Reviewed 18 April 2014

This is one of our favorite snorkeling spots on Kauai. The beach access next to the restaurant is somewhat limited, but the fish are always a great attraction. The entry on sand, is small and there are rocks you need to be careful of. It is usually not too crowded and there are always many different fish. There is a restroom and shower across the street and a shave ice place. Parking can be difficult, but go early.

“The locals call it PK's!”
Reviewed 16 March 2014

Great snorkeling because of the reef but it is rocky and difficult for the inexperienced to enter and exit with fins. Once you're in the aquatic life is incredible. The breaks were also perfect here for our college age son to surf daily in March.
