The Puka dog is uniquely Hawaiian and wonderful. Lots of choices for toppings but the Hawaiian mustard is a must. Could eat this every day.

I visited the location in Poipu and Hanalei, which is located in the Ching Young Village, which is on the makai (ocean) side of the highway. For a first-timer, ask to taste the fruit relish first and get condiment recommendations from the staff before ordering. I tried the pineapple and mango relish. The buns were better than buns you can buy in the supermarket. I learned that the owners haven't updated their website and haven't put the new location (which opened in May) on their web page as of yet. If you're in the area, it's worth checking out.

My husband and I were walking through this small village of shops and stumbled upon Puka Dog...my husband IMMEDIATELY RECOGNIZED it. It totally lived up to his TV expectations. Great stop..must do in Kauai!

Substantial go-to meal. Great value. A roasted sausage on hollowed out and toasted Hawaiian bread, bathed in a garlicky marinade with the Hawaiian condiments of your choice. I chose Lilikoi mustard and Mango relish...some Maui chips and a big glass of fresh-squeezed lemonade on ice and that's a healthy, substantial meal for less than $10. While on Kauai for 4 days, we ate 3 meals at Puka Dog. Highly recommend!

Dont expect a baseball game hotdog, or a picnic hotdog....this is a great change up with hawaiian flair. Relish type sauces indicative to the area.... Papaya, pineapple, etc....with a yummy breading around it. Wash it diwn with some lemonaide....you will be set. Come on....try something new!
