GO CONDOS - Kapili was the only condo place who would accept our 3 nights stay - Thanks Kapili!!
We decided to try and book a condo at Kauai because the reviews for the Sheraton were pretty dismal and reading reviews from Trip Advisor it sounded like Poipu was the best area to stay on the island. Generally, condos are cheaper and with our kiwi dollar I went to search for something affordable. The issue we came across was even though the condo places said they'd accept 3 nights minimum, when we actually made email enquiries they all turned us away or did not even respond, and they tried to convince us to prolong our stay. However, we had booked our flights 6 months out on specials so there was no way of changing. We must have been turned away by at least 10 places and I was getting pretty desperate.Thank goodness Kapili was so easy to deal with and they were very professional.
APARTMENT 26 - FELL IN LOVE!
OMG, we loved this apartment so much we didn't want to leave. Amazing views and situated right in the centre of the apartment block directly in front of the sea with a less than 100 metre walk to the sea wall. Quiet, peaceful, and the interior was exquisite. Marble Italian kitchen that had everything you could need. Great music selection, even good Hawaiian music to put us in the holiday mood.
We had two bathrooms and a laundry included in one, and you're just asked to wash and dry the beach towels you use before you leave. Instructions all pretty clear. The aircon standalone unit in the bedroom worked really well for us at keeping us cool at night, and the rest of the apartment was sheltered from direct sun (except on our lanai) so it kept cool all day long.
The staff at reception were super friendly and helpful and outlined to us on the map all the good cheap eats - Mexican (in the wall), the local fish market, and local supermarket, and TomKat grill had some good tasty food all located in Koloa Village a 3 minute drive from Poipu.
There was lots of adventures (mainly snorkelling) to be had on the island, so my husband only got to try the pool out once, just before we left - he rated it :-) (not too many kids ;-)
The price for this condo was equivalent to that of a Sheraton hotel room, so more expensive than some of the condos we were looking at - but it was worth it, and for a special treat we'd come back and pay that again - unfortunately 3 nights is kinda our budget limit though :-( ($1200 NZD)
I think our photos tell how much we loved this apartment. It was nicer than our home in little New Zealand. I am now designing my own subtropical garden in our back yard so we can feel like we're still there ;-)
Thanks so much for a wonderful, romantic, more than comfortable place to stay on our first visit to Kauai ever :-))))
(Our accommodation went down hill from there as we visited Kailua-Kona and Waikiki next :-(
We travelled around the entire island in a convertible Mustang (whoop whoop!) and I'm so glad we chose Poipu area to stay at. Wouldn't change anything!! :-)
