We were 4 families of 17 people (9 kids ages 3 to 15). We used 3 condos that were adjacent to each other. The pool was right outside our door, just a few steps from our lanai so we could feel comfortable about letting the kids go there anytime. The tennis courts were right outside our backdoor; also very convenient. There was also a large, grassy area at the front of the condo complex, perfect for a bit of kid run-around activity. BBQs were by the pool and back by the tennis courts; very convenient also. Each condo was set up a little differently in terms of utensils, dishes, sports equipment, outdoor seating, etc, but in total, they met all of our needs. We had some problems with the AC in several of the units but the staff worked with us to fix them as best they could. The units are not "air conditioned" in the respect that there is no central air, but they do have inside the room units that will do a good job most of the time. Our condos had a morning sun which made the early morning coffee time pretty much unavailable on the lanai so if you want a comfortable lanai in the morning, don't get #s 16 to #22. One night we had a family gathering with a catered meal (by Michael Stauber, and it was outstanding!) and we sort of broke the rules a bit by having it on the center condo's lanai, but the management was understanding and it went off smoothly. The beach is a short 10 minute walk away, at the front of the Sheraton, and another beach for boggie boarding is another 5 minutes away. Very nice and we went there 3 or 4 times.
Overall, it was a great experience for us and we have many memories that will last a lifetime.

Poipu Kapili is a wonderful place to stay for extended families. We recently rented two oceanfront units for a week and had an absolutely lovely stay at this facility. We would definitely select it again if we were staying in the area. The grounds are beautiful and the proximity to all that Poipu and Koloa offer is outstanding, and yet it offers a wonderful sense of peace and quiet. Restaurants, beaches, shopping--all are just minutes (single digit!) away. Parking is provided and is only steps away from the units. On-site staff members were friendly, full of helpful advice, and responsive to all our requests. I had been concerned about some reviewers problems with noise from the frontage road at the water's edge, but for the seven night we were there, we experienced absolutely no noise or gatherings at all.
Our units, 7 and 9, were two story with a direct ocean view from both the kitchen/living area and the front bedrooms in each--floor plans pretty much identical. It was great to have a lanai and grassy area with a full on ocean view right outside the living room--especially as my son's family and our three year old granddaughter were traveling with us. She and her parents made daily use of the pool in the late afternoons and had a marvelous time--not many people were around that time of day, and if anyone was bothered by her exuberant enjoyment and laughter, we were not aware of it. It's a lovely setting, but I can imagine that the units overlooking the pool might experience noise issues if there were a lot of people behaving boisterously.

Since the units are individually owned--there is great variation--I'm going to be specific about the two we rented. Please note--both were meticulously clean, had extremely comfortable beds, and provided a wonderful vacation experience.

Number 7 is an end unit--very nicely furnished and updated--it has an open feel and has excellent ventilation--both front to back and from one side. This is a key issue since most all units only have AC in the bedrooms (true for virtually all Poipu locations we looked at). The air-conditioning worked very well in this unit as did the television, wifi, washer/dryer, etc. It also had beach chairs and a boogie board for the use of residents--a really nice feature. We would definitely choose this one again.

Number 9 is not an end unit, but it has the same lovely upstairs/downstairs ocean front view and grassy lanai that #7 features. It also has extremely high end furnishings and many lovely pieces of Asian/Polynesian design, including sculpture/paintings, etc. The kitchen has been recently upgraded and has a very high end feel (granite/stainless steel)--as do the 3 baths in the unit. It also has excellent ventilation upstairs and down. In both units, opening the vented windows in the back and the sliding doors in the front produced wonderful breezes through the whole condominium.
However, and for those who prefer simpler design and a more open feel, this is probably not the best choice. There were nine (many sizable) plastic floral arrangements in the living room alone and we found the overall feel rather claustrophobic. The large number of pieces on the walls and table surfaces throughout the unit only added to this feeling--definitely not a "less is more" kind of place. Added to that, the air conditioner in the front bedroom--the only AC unit there was, was very inefficient. It literally took hours to make any difference in the temperature of the room. We also experienced difficulties with the television downstairs--the manager had to adjust the system in order to make it watchable--which he did promptly and efficiently, and in time for my husband to watch the soccer game he wanted to see! So, although this particular unit was lovely, we would probably not choose it again.

The latter inconveniences were, however, minor in the big picture and we would happily return to Poipu Kapili and recommend it to our friends. Since we were there during the time that the remnants of Hurricane Iselle arrived in Kauai, we were also pleased with the information and support given to us by the staff. We were kept updated and given verbal and written information about what to expect and how to proceed if an evacuation proved to be necessary--and we were told we would be notified directly by phone if we needed to leave. Most fortunately, this was not necessary, but it was reassuring to feel someone was constantly monitoring the situation on behalf of Poipu Kapili guests. Thanks to all for their efforts!

My husband and I spent 11 days on Kauai. This was our first time staying at Poipu Kapili. The condo we stayed in was comfy and homey so our stay was very relaxing. The view from unit 32 is beautiful. Very picturesque view of the beach across the street. The unit comes with a washer & dryer as well as a room AC in the bedroom. The AC was greatly appreciated since we had several days of no winds and high humidity!

Staff is very friendly, grounds are quiet and relaxing! Thank you Katie, Sandy, and Scott for unlocking our unit when we locked ourselves out (at 8:30 pm). We can't wait to come back (hopefully next year). Definitely staying at Poipu Kapili on our next trip to Kauai.

We have stayed at Poipu Kapili every year for the last 5 years. It is always wonderful. The unit is very clean, decorated well, very comfortable and has every thing we need for a great time. We love listening to the ocean from the condo. We hope to come back next year, too!

Quiet, relaxed, impeccably maintained, great folks. Great ocean view, sunsets on the water in front of the facility are spectacular. Units are well equipped and well maintained. Simply put, PK is the best...
