“Absolutely Beautiful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 November 2011

We travel to all the islands about three times a year and stay at many different properties and have to say that the Westin Princeville was quite a treat, it is so quiet and beautiful. We traveled at the beginning of November so there were not very many children around. The location does not have beach access accept a steep path down to Pali Ke Kua Beach which is gorgeous but quite a steep climb back up if you are not in good shape. We walked down to this beach almost every day as there was hardly anyone ever on it. There are many beaches within driving distance and a car is a must at this location. They do not serve breakfast at this hotel but do offer a market to purchase everything you will need to prepare your own and the rooms have complete kitchens with granite counter tops and stainless steel aplliances. The rooms are very spacious and clean. The beds and pillows are to die for. We stayed on the first floor which was quite convenient to walk out to one of the many pools and hot tubs. The infinite pool overlooking the ocean is absolutely amazing. The golf course is one of the most beautiful courses you will ever play. All the employees from the front staff to the maintenance crew are all very friendly. You will not be disappointed if you stay at this resort.

Room Tip: Ask for oceanview room it is well worth it but the mountain views are also spectacular.

I am so happy I made the decision to stay at the Westin Princeville resort for my honeymoon. My experience was absolutely amazing. I love the separate villas around the resort which makes it feel like you are secluded and not on top of people like in a big high rise hotel building. The staff is extremely professional and really go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable with your stay.

I highly reccomend eating at Nanea as I found they had the best food on the island. The chef is incredible! I reccomend ordering from the fresh fish menu as I did which left me begging for more. We stayed in a studio villa, which was incredibly spacious and had a kitchenette area as well as a beautiful bathroom which included a jacuzzi, separate shower and large vanity. The washer and dryer we're also very convenient to use as it made packing easy since we could wash our clothes throughout our stay. I love the heavenly mattress and super soft linen. I really couldn't have asked for more as far as comfort goes.

The concierge was always available for any questions and really made me and my husband feel so comfortable. As we don't have children, we thought we would feel uncomfortable in a resort setting however the structure of the pools and jacuzzis and villas around the resort made it feel like you were always in a your own private space. I can't stop bragging about my vacation to my friends and family and would definitely come back to the Westin.

Another bonus which icing on the cake was the use of the beach at the St Regis. We rented a car our entire stay so we were able to take advantage of the free valet parking at the Regis. The beach is gorgeous and the staff at the Regis was top notch. I love the little cabanas we were able to use as well as their delicious menu options for having lunch on the beach.

If you don't have a car there is a shuttle available that goes every hour back and forth for Westin guests. I feel in love with Kauai that I definitely will be coming back and would consider in a heartbeat staying at the Westin. If your reading this Westin reps, thank you so much for making our honeymoon such a wonderful experience! It was truly the best vacation I've taken. Aloha!

Room Tip: Studios are very spacious. Felt very comfortable.

Stayed at the Westin for 4 nights in a one-bedroom unit. The location without Beach might not be for everybody but for us this place was perfect. The atmosphere was nice and quiet (except for the roosters, but those are everywhere on the island) and very relaxing, the room was very clean and well maintained, really couldn't have asked for more. Also, the bed was really comfortable. Staff was really nice and helpful and we were never even asked to listen to any time-share pitch.

The check-in time is quite late as others have pointed out, however when we arrived earlier we already could get towels and relaxed a bit at the pool, so it was really no big issue. Another point raised in other reviews is rain. The north-shore certainly is a bit rainy, so we got some drizzling rain now and then for a couple of minutes, which was usually followed by a rainbow. Made for some spectacular views at the cliff between the Hotel and the ocean.

There is a Foodland near by, so we made good use of the Kitchen and the really nice BBQs.
We would definitely stay at the Westin again.

Well appointed, relaxing and very comfortable resort. Not overly fancy, but the resort has most of the amentities you need when staying on Kauai. Other than the roosters crowing, very quiet. Good pool and the restaurant is excellent. Staff and service very good and the location is absolutely beautiful!

We had a wonderful experience at the Westin Princeville. We knew this was a timeshare property and had read some of the negative reviews about how people were treated by the staff after either declining to listen to the sales pitch or choosing not to buy in, but our experience was very pleasant - even after my husband firmly but nicely told them we weren't interested in listening to their pitch.

Here's a few of our observations:

* I think the North Shore area is the most beautiful part of the island. However, it is at least an hour away from most things (airport, Costco, Port Allen, Waimea Canyon). Because the seas are rougher in October, the boat tours of the Na Pali coast were not leaving from the North Shore, so we had to leave from Port Allen. We also hiked the Waimea Canyon Trail and took a helicopter tour of the island, so almost every day of our trip involved at least an hour's drive each way. The island is beautiful, but the driving gets old.

* Rain was not an issue during our stay. Every once-in-a-while it would sprinkle, but the showers were short-lived and never ruined our plans.

* There is no beach access from the resort grounds (there is a shuttle to the beach at St. Regis), but that didn't bother us at all. There were several nice beaches within short driving distance from the resort. In this case, I think the North Shore has the advantage over other parts of the island in that there are several very nice beaches in the area: Ke'e Beach, Tunnels Beach and 'Anini Beach to name a few.

* The restaurant (Nanea) was very nice. We ended up eating there three nights of our stay. Admittedly, it was mostly because after all the driving we had done during the day, we just couldn't bring ourselves to head back out to go to a different restaurant, but every meal was delicious and the service was exceptional. We had a nice simple breakfast at the Princeville Market. They offered fresh fruit, hot oatmeal, yogurt parfaits and coffee, among other items. The prices were very reasonable.

* Yes, there are roosters. They are all over the island. It doesn't matter where you stay on Kauai, you will encounter roosters. And they crow all day long. It's not the Westin's fault; it's just how it is everywhere.

My two complaints about the resort itself:

* The walls between the units are thin. On two separate mornings we were awakened by noisy neighbors who were up very, very early (like before 5 am). It sounded like there were two couples, and they talked loudly and had the tv up pretty loud as well. Not my favorite way to start the morning.

* The bar staff at the pool were less than enthusiastic about taking our drink orders. On the two occasions we were at the pool, waiters walked past us a number of times serving other guests, but never offered us any service. Finally, I stopped a waiter and asked if I could order a drink. He took our order, but he definitely seemed put out by it. I'm not sure if it was because we are not timeshare owners (perhaps owners are better taken care of), or if my husband and I simply didn't look like we would be spending much time by the pool and therefore would not be racking up a sizable bar bill (resulting in not much of a tip for them).

Final thoughts: The Westin Princeville is a very nice resort. The grounds are beautiful and well-maintained, and the rooms are clean and updated. Although it's not as luxurious as other resorts, we would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to others.

We stayed at the Westin on an Invitation for visiting the Time Share option. Our thoughts were open to the option to see what this 3 year old property has to offer. This was my first time to Princeville and from what I understand it is known as Rainville, for a reason. It rained a lot. Especially in November. The small kitchen/studio we were placed in had a garden view. It was small, but worked for 2 adults sharing a Queen size bed. The parking is far from the rooms, and it is first come first serve to get a close spot. They really push the Time Share Option with a pressure appointment at the beginning of your visit. You need to have a car to get around. Although they do offer a shuttle to get to the St. Regis and the local Village on the hour It's an hour from the Lihue Airport to get there. The golf at the Makai course was very enjoyable. The beach is only accessible from the St. Regis. And that in itself is a chore to get to. We would recommend if you like to snorkel, the visibility was lacking. But the water temperature was warm. Yet the swimming was difficult in the ocean because of the low reefs for a longs ways out. They have nice staff and willing to make your stay far away from everything comfortable.
.

Room Tip: Request a high floor with an ocean view.

The resort is nice if you just want to relax by the pool or drive around to see the island sights. Not much else to do on the resort grounds without driving. Big negative for us was no beach within walking distance and it's a hassle to use the St. Regis (sisyer resort) beach because you have to drag your own towels from the Westin and end up with no beach chairs or anything since the pool and pool chairs are for St. Regis guests only.
