“Will not be staying here again”
Reviewed 9 April 2012

My husband and I stayed at the Westin Princeville in a recent trip to celebrate our wedding anniversary. This was our first time staying in a Westin and overall, our stay went from excellent to average due to an incident with one of their security members that tainted our experience there. When we called to share this experience with Westin's guest management, we were told the incident would be addressed and will follow up with us after. Needless to say, no follow up was provided back to us after the call. The experience would've been salvaged (since the rest of the staff was excellent) but the lack of follow up by management really told us customer service is not their #1 priority. We have stayed in many 4-5 star resorts in our travels and unfortunately, this resort did not meet up to our expectations on customer service. We would recommend spending a little more and staying at the St. Regis nearby if you expect excellent customer service to come with your stay.

My wife and I stayed in room 6301 for 9 days - one bedroom premium suite. Very comfortable and clean with a reasonable ocean view. The kitchenette had everything we needed to make breakfast and lunch most days. Being a 50ish couple on our own, we spent most of our time at the quiet pool. It was comfortable, kind of secluded, and quiet most of the time. No charge for parking your rental car, unless you want valet service. The exercise facility was OK. The market in the main building had the essentials, plus fresh cuts of meat to cook on the 8 or so grills on the property ( caution: less than half were functional during our visit). The location on the north shore was excellent for access to many beaches, St. Regis, and overall stunning views of the interior mountains and ocean. Eye candy everywhere you looked - just gorgeous scenery. The Princeville center has a descent food market, ice cream and shaved ice shops. Hanalei center has several good restaurants. Of course, everything costs more than at home, so just be ready for it, and cut cost where you can ( ie, eat in your room often). Can't wait to come back, hopefully with the kids in the near future.

Room Tip: Building 6 and 7 are closest to the ocean. Rooms on the third floor have the best view in general...

We received the weston resorts letter for a 750 five night stay w .185 off rental car and 75 off resort cost.. Not bad. We stayed in a studio room 5219. Decent view of ocean, rooms are not huge but good enough for two people. We did not eat at he resort, but it looked ok, just expensive and a meal you could get at any nice hotel. The staff is great, which gave the resort four stars. It's location makes for a short drive to all foe north shore beachs and a five minute drive to hanalie. I would stay again, if you go on e vacation deal, they make sit with the to,e share advisor. I simply told her that we were not interested in the tour. It didn't make her happy, but oh we'll..

Room Tip: They will tell you all rooms are island view, do not believe them.. If you nudge the receptionist t...

Little worried before traveling because another reviewer claimed that the hotel was inland etc. This hotel overlooks the ocean from a cliff. It is a time share with apartment type buildings but they are nice (and the units have kitchenettes which came in handy). I know my view was not the best but it was still fine (small parking lot, then some trees, and then a golf course.) As far as a beach, below the hotel there is a beautiful empty sandy beach with soft waves. For whatever reason (maybe liability?), the hotel does not play up the existence of this at all. To access it, you have to hike down a fairly steep slope, but it is a pretty hike (there is a small stream and waterfall next to you). If you are out of shape, you are going to have trouble with this. If you are in good (or even ok) shape, not a problem.

Overall we had a great experience at the Westin. First of all, the location in Princeville was a big plus for us. We loved the proximity to Hanalei and the beauty of the north shore. We booked a studio villa with no view and were pleased to receive a room with a view of the ocean (although it was obstructed somewhat by the parking lot). Also loved having a full kitchen with large fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, cookware, and kitchenware. Washer/dryer was a big plus. Staff was very friendly. Hotel grounds were well manicured with great attention to detail. The room was immaculate. The Westin Heavenly Shower was awesome. We never ate at any of their restaurants, so can't comment on food. Went swimming in the pool once and seemed to be a very nice pool area. Free wi-fi in the rooms was very convenient. Overall had a great experience and can't wait to go back.

Cons:
-no beach (although the St Regis beach access is a plus)
-parking $12 per day (valet or self-park)

My husband has Parkinson's and needs grab bars in the bathroom. The ADA room had a huge bathroom and entry area that included a washer and dryer. The kitchen had a two burner stove, full size refrigerator, small sink, dish washer, and all the utensils/plates needed. It also had a shower stool in the bath but unfortunately did not have a shower head wand. The shower head was embedded high in the wall which makes it difficult for someone sitting down to use. It would be a significant improvement to the room if they would replace it with a shower wand.

The room itself was quite small. Someone in a wheel chair would have difficulty navigating the narrow space along the side and at the foot of the bed. My husband gets around well and doesn't have to use a wheel chair. Since this was an ADA room it would be uncomfortable for someone in a wheel chair.

Good size TV was a god send since it rained hard 6 out of the 7 days we were there. Our second day it rained 20" in one day. A record for the area. It was the kind of rain that turns your umbrella inside out when you walk out the door. You can tell it rains a lot in Princeville because the rooms are equipped with umbrellas.

The Westin restaurant was excellent. Can't remember the name of it but it's the only one in the complex. We ate at the St. Regis one night. The food at the Westin was quite a bit better in my opinion. The St. Regis has that incredible view as a selling point for eating there. Don't bother if you are a foodie and just want a great meal. Breakfast is served out of their small on site market and although not elaborate was very good.

The pool complex and grounds were immaculate. There is a small infinity pool complex near the cliffs that gives you a good view of the ocean and has a private feel to it. The larger pool nearer the hotel lobby was also really nice.

The service was top notch. Everyone in the hotel was kind and professional. They were hard pressed during the heavy rain storms when service staff couldn't get to the hotel due to road closures. Service staff already in the hotel had to work longer hours to cover for the people who couldn't get to work. They had to stay on the property for 2-3 days and couldn't get home. For them it was a little like a scene from the TV show "Survivor". Guests and staff had a good attitude about the whole thing.

Would have rated the hotel five stars if not for the small room.

Room Tip: ADA travelers with wheel chairs make sure to check out their room to make certain it is large enough...

Our six night stay at the Westin Princeville on Kauai was mostly a joy. The rooms are bright, spacious, clean, beds comfy, everything you expect is stocked in the rooms. The pools and hot tubs are spread out and range from quite, remote areas for adults to playful for the kids. Staff is attentive and friendly. The only gotcha is the unexpected "farm setting". Every morning - bar none - the resident roosters, and I emphasis plural, fired up their lungs and began their morning cock-a-doodle-dooing at 4:30 am, yes well before sunrise (silly wive's tale about bringing in dawn). There are roosters and chickens all over the property - rampent in fact. These little fellas and gals are all over the northside of the island thanks to the Phillapinos bringing them over for cock fighting and then somehow they all escaped. So this property has a problem and likely it is a delicate local issue in terms of what to do. Thus guests are exposed to beautiful and peaceful sound of the crashing waves - suddenly interupted - and might awaken from a dream thinking they've been airlifted to a farm somewhere in Kansas. Unfortunately there's no wizard here to arrange for a balloon right home and so you're left continplating who is fast enough in your party to catch the chickens....

Room Tip: The roosters appear to be loudest near the rooms that face the ocean (yipee) so if you want to attem...
