“Amazing Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 September 2011

Just completed my third stay at this property and it continues to be my favorite in the US. We had an amazing JR Suite with a fantastic butler named Greg. Greg gave us local recommendations and accommodated our every need, he really made our stay. The room itself is not overly Hawaiian and is understated, but the bang on views are really the focal point. The room was very large as was the bathroom.

The grounds are beautiful, and the pool area is very nice, but does get crowded. The bar is a spectacular place to watch the sunset and have a glass of bubbly. The overall decor is very elegant not typical Hawiian, so if you are looking for that it's not here.

I also love how the valets great you with fresh leis and always have your car stocked with ice cold water bottles. Its the little things that make this property so spectacular.

I can't wait to go back.

My partner and I stayed at the St Regis in Princeville for our 10th Anniversary that we had been planning for approximatley a year prior to our visit. We had been on Kauai a yeear earlier when we toured the St Regis and thought it would be fun to stay here for our 10th. We both travel as consultants for work 90 - 100 nights a year so we have a good idea of other hotels.

When we arrived, we were meet by a very aggressive bellhop. He really wanted us to valet the car. When asked, I said we would check in and be back for the car. He looked at me as if I had three heads and said "But don't you want to valet." I responded that I'd just do one of the free spots up the road instead of paying $20/night. (As an FYI - all hotels near the beach need to provide some free parking spots to the public in Hawaii so be sure to ask.) I also told him we needed to first pickup the car before parking. He never acknowledged the free, self parking and told us that it was "too late to self park" because "there are cameras everywhere in the portico."

We arrived at check-in where we were exctied given that when we had booked 5 months earlier they had promised us an upgraded room. We were greeted with a very nice drink and one of the staff butlers. We were paying $350/night and had an ocean view so were excited about the room. We arrived and it was an ocean view. However, it was also an unabated view of the air handlers. We went back to the front desk where they were very apologetic (we spoke with Andrew.) He gave us another room choice which included an obscured ocean front view or we could pay $1,500 / night for a suite. Keep in mind, the night prior at the Marriott Kauai, they had upgraded us for free to the 1,500sqf Presidential Suite for our 10th Anniversary.

We called the Revenue Manager (Rob) and spoke to the head of the reception desk (Matt) who did give us two free drinks as a nice gesture but said they could do nothing on the room unless we wanted to upgrade to the $1,500 suite. Needless to say, that wasn't in the cards. At this point, it was 6:00pm and that room hadn't sold so I thought they might upgrade us, but when asked, we were told us "we don't upgrade to those rooms."

For our anniversary the hotel sent a bottle of champagne to our room which we received an promptly headed up to the deck to watch the sunset. We were told after we sat down that there would be a $40 corkage fee (she was nice about it though) unless we wanted to move to the three seats at the far end that were open. I was surprised since the hotel had given us the bottle. Apparently those are the only 3 non-revenue producing seats on the property as the entire lobby is a bar.

We had dinner at the Mekana Terrace and ran into friends from business school. They had tried the signature restaurant - the Jean-Georges restaurant - Kauai Grill - and said it was like a Vegas restaurant and not to bother. Mekana Grill however was good and friendly staff.

We walked around the property after dinner and were looked at by the staff and guests like we wer pariahs for holding hands...I don't think that is done so much on the north side fo the island. Needless to say, the south side - especially the Marriott Kauai - peopole seemed to smile and say hello regardless. Not necissarily the case at the St Regis...

Summer vacation June 3, 2010. What an amazing adventure. We stayed on the 11th Floor...and we had a balcony. We watched the sunset from our room every evening. The hotel and the staff are BENCHMARK! I must say....if you are by the pool...you have to ask for NOAH. He is a GEM and my family just adored him. We can't wait to go back next year.

The St. Regis was amazing! Everything that you would expect from a top hotel in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
Great service, the rooms were lovely and the food was great. A lot of variety on each restaurant's menu, we were never disappointed.
If you are going to Kauai treat yourself, this hotel is worth it!

4.6 stars
Beautiful resort on a stunning setting.
" Relaxed luxury". Highly recommended it
Everyone is friendly. We did not get to meet Mr. Sgarbi, but Jose Chavez was very courteous and helpful.
The Valet and pool service is outstanding.
Rooms are well appointed ( slightly on small size). We were on the 4th Fl, which was very convenient. It is the transition floor. Take 1 elevator to the lobby and another to the pool. But the view on the higher floors is much better. Our carpet had a very visible relatively large rip on the middle seam as you entered the room, I believe it is secondary to the type of carpeting (something was probably dragged on it). I think someone should have taken care of this before, as it appear to have been there a while. I mentioned it to Mr. Hirsch director of rooms at the manager cocktail hour during our last evening, he promised he will look in to it . Hopefully this is taken care of.
Food at the Kauai Grill was fantastic.(4.6*. Food and building 5*, service and music 4* ) The view was gorgeous. The hostess was very nice. However the service was a little too relaxed for this type of a restaurant. We had a large table. Our main waiter was very very young, and probably little too inexperienced for this type of a establishment. He looked like a surfer boy that just had gotten dressed up. We had a table of 10. For example: half the table were served bread , the other half were not. and when we inquired about bread for the other half, they again served the same half. Second issue: I think this was by design. The back ground music was a little too loud and too much on the hip side. This actually helped us to muffle the sound of the 4 kids in our party, but also we could hardly hear each other or have a conversation with the person couple of seats down from us. The type and volume of the music did not seem appropriate for the milieu.
The had just (early July) opened a Tapas style restaurant at nights next to the pool. I think this is to compete with BarAcuda.Over time I think it will become very successful. The food is very good. Obviously The atmosphere is much nicer than BarAcuda. There are few kinks they need to work out. Mainly kitchen organization and the time to get the dishes out. We arrived at the opening time on Friday evening, at the recommendation of Mr. Chavez. The first round of food and drinks was great and arrived fast. By the time we ordered our second round, more people had arrive and it took considerably longer to get our dishes. By the time, we ordered our 3rd round of dishes, the place was packed. It took so long, that we cancelled the 3rd round. I don't think this was a service issue, Since they utilized the same wait staff at the pool side restaurant and bar>> and during the day they were great. I believe it was more of kitchen organization for a Tapas style establishment.
Again the pool was fantastic, warm and welcoming in hot days of August. The drinks and food at the pool side bar and restaurant was great.

Over all a great stay.

Service is impeccable, the hotel has done a great job of hiring and training wonderful staff. The JG restaurant is good but, not as good at the St. Regis in Park City. The rooms are getting a bit long in the tooth but, it isn't easy to do building projects on Kauai. Air conditioning in the room wasn't very effective but, everything else was fine.

My wife and I stayed at teh St REgis Princeville for our honeymoon. neithe rone of us had been to Hawaii and we were excited. i have to tell you - we were more than delighted. The staff treated us like a king and queen. They remembered our last names, made accomodations to take us and bring us, had water and towels ready in our rental car every time we ventured outside the resort..they were just great. We were even blessed with a complimentary room upgrade - BEFORE we even got to the resort. The room was clean and updgraded - marble in teh bathroom and rub, hi def TV, soft beds. Our room overlooked the bay and we slept to the sounds of the ocean waves crashing on the shore. It was absolutely THE BEST experience I have personally had at a hotel/resort and we both fell in love with Hawaii and the St Regis brand. Upon leaving, we already started planning a trip back to this paradise.

Room Tip: Just ask - they will get it or will give you comprable alternatives.
