“Breathtaking views!”
Reviewed 16 October 2011

We went to Kauai for our first vacation with our new baby spending 3 days on the south shore and 3 days on the north shore at the St. Regis. The St. Regis location is absolutely breathtaking, Hanalei Bay and the mountains are one of the most beautiful places on earth- the views are mesmorizing.

Unfortunately at check-in our Ocean View Suite was not ready. I had a crying baby who needed a diaper change and to be fed and finally had to ask someone for somewhere to take care of him. They begrudgingly agreed to let us use a "hospitality room" so I wasn't changing a diaper in the middle of the lobby. This room was horrendous. I don't know how many people had used this room but the sheets were rumpled, towels and soaps used in the bathrooms. It was so icky we decided to put the baby back in the car and go into Hanalei rather than wait in that room or the lobby. Upon returning to the hotel, our room was still not ready- so annoying so we went down to the pool.

When we were finally able to check into our Ocean View Suite, the views were awesome but the room itself was a bit of a let down. Last year I stayed in a standard ocean view room and found the layout to be too narrow and the bedroom in the Suite was the same. There is a large dining and living room area, which was nice and spacious but almost too big. It was missing a powder room. The most awkward part of the room was the bathroom which had 2 doors- one in the bedroom and one right by the front door. And no separate WC for the toilet either. Also, with such a view, you really wish for a balcony.

Another big negative during our stay was a large group staying at the hotel for a wedding. At first it was sort of amusing (enter drunk lady rambling through the chaise lounges by the pool screaming "CONCIERGE! ALOHA!." A few hours later, while trying to relax by the pool and enjoy the ocean view, it was annoying. I think the large group really wore everyone out and some staff were maybe not as friendly as they were the year before.

We found the food to be ok- nothing was amazing but nothing was bad. The lady who delivered our breakfast every morning was a real downer- I don't know why they chose her to interact with customers. She was so grumpy!

Best part besides the view was a Lomi Lomi massage I had at the spa. It's not the most beautiful spa, but the therapist was awesome!

While the views from the beach are awesome, the south shore is much better for swimming in the ocean.

Room Tip: definitely get an ocean view room!

The hotel is beautiful, the rooms are spacious and well appointed. Dining at the Kauai Grill exceeded my expextations and the breakfast on the terrace was always pleasant. Service is really first rate - hotel staff worked professionally as a team to make our stay enjoyable.

The only one catch was the WiFi service. I don't understand why this should be inferior to a Holiday Inn Express. Logins are frequent and cumbersome. Signal strength is weak and speeds are slow. Located in a remote area, cell phone service is iffy so connectivity is more important.

It seems that Starwood is making the mistake GM made in the 80's and throwing some Chevy parts in a Cadillac in the hope that nobody will notice.

Aloha,

Thank you for sharing a review of your stay with us. Your comments shared with help others considering Kaua’i and The St. Regis Princeville Resort for a vacation destination. Our staff strive to deliver the highest level of service and are trained in the Ho’okipa Culture Traditions embodied in the aloha spirit. The team at Kaua’i Grill, named #1 in Food and Service by renowned Zagat Survey, is continuously raising the standards for exceeding guest expectations. Breakfast in the Makana Terrace is a delightful way to greet the day.

We appreciate your concerns shared regarding the WiFi service and cell phone connection. WiFi connection is offered daily and does require login after 24 hours from initial purchase. Most locations through-out the resort are hot spot with the pool location as a cool spot. We are aware of the cellular phone connection and are working to resolve this challenge.

As we pioneer the St. Regis brand in Hawaii we celebrate milestones and evolve in opportunities for growth. On behalf of the entire St. Regis Ohana, we hope your travels return you to Kaua’i and The St. Regis Princeville Resort.

This was our second evening dining at the Makana Terrace. The food and service were outstanding. Our waitress, Fynn made our evening very enjoyable. The night before, Melileni Tejada serenaded us with several beautiful songs. She is the best!

We visited this hotel during our previous trips to Kauai. It is a beautiful property in a magical setting.

We stayed there in October to celebrate our anniversary. The rooms are well appointed, service excellent, and food well prepared. The views of Hanalei Bay and Makana Mountain is breathtaking.

You really can't beat the setting and the views this hotel has. We arrived near sunset, which was absolutely incredible. We got upgraded to an oceanfront suite, which was a really nice room overlooking the pool/beach area. Even though it's a big hotel, it never felt crowded and we were always able to find a spot in the shade down by the beach or pool. The service was excellent - staff members were always very friendly and helpful. We thought the restaurants were ok. The food options didn't really line up with our tastes, but the service was always good. Parking is valet only, which was nice in some aspects, but also kind of a pain.

Beautiful property built into the side of the mtn.
I think all the rooms face the bay- we were on the 7th floor and had a great view of the Bay. The sunset in Hanalei bay is spectacular! If you want to watch the sunset from the balcony bar- make sure to get there about an hour early, it fills up quickly!

The rooms are great and very spacious. Slightly odd but there's a glass wall between the shower and the room that you can flip a switch and it becomes opaque to have some privacy or you can leave open and look all the way outside from the bathroom.

There's a bit of a formal feel to the hotel lobby and it's bars. The place is definitely geared towards couples and adults (aka: no kids) but it was nice.

Oh and s'mores! They had s'mores on the beach at night.

Aloha,

Thank you for taking the time and sharing a review of your stay with us. Your comments shared with help others considering Kaua’i and The St. Regis Princeville Resort as a vacation destination. The breath-taking views of Hanalei Bay and majesty of Mount Makana are unsurpassed. Capturing the spectacular sunset along Pu’u Po’a Point at The St. Regis Bar is a ritual one should enjoy. The Signature Ceremony and Champagne Saber near dusk is a romantic prelude to celebrate the day.

The resort’s interior design brings a residential feeling to the interiors and reflects Hawai‘i’s natural surroundings, the sea, sky and earth. It is our hope one feels a sense of place amongst such surroundings.

Quality time during a family vacation is priceless. Our keiki (children) are important to us. We have developed a personalized program with Save Our Seas that give both kids and adults the opportunity to experience meaningful activities that incorporate science, culture and fun. While we are not a “Kid’s Camp” the intimate time shared together as Ohana (family) are unique and timeless.

As we pioneer the St. Regis brand in Hawai’i we continue to evolve and excel. On behalf of the entire St. Regis Ohana we look forward to welcoming you back to Hawaii’s Quintessential Address. A Hui Hou – Until We Meet Again!
