I stayed at this hotel in 1996 and was blown away. Same reaction in 2012. The remodeling of the entrance area is absolutely stunning. We checked in around 6:30pm and viewed a stunning sunset from the main lobby. The room was absolutely first class, although the "magic window" between the bathroom and bedroom is as bizarre today as it was 16 years ago. The setting of this home would be hard to top anywhere. The morning buffet was excellent and varied all three mornings. Unfortunately, we stayed here only 3 nights and moved on to the Grand Hyatt, which was clearly several steps downward in every way.

One thing - a recent review states that the hotel's staff seemed to be trolling for trips. That was not our experience. The staff was as subdued, but helpful, as one expects to fine in the very best hotels.

Room Tip: Even the garden rooms have a partial ocean view.

We had the most memorable time at the St Regis Princeville. The view was breathtaking - it's hard to comprehend that such picturesque places actually exist on Earth! The service was impeccable, the suite to which we were upgraded was amazing (including the daily housekeeping and turn down service) and the food at each of the hotel restaurants was to die for!

It was particularly difficult to say goodbye to the St Regis and to Kauai. We had an incredible stay and will definitely be visiting in the (hopefully near) future!

Room Tip: Ocean view or Prince Jnr Suite -its worth it!

We had a wonderful vacation here. The scenery was unrivaled and the service was excellent. The food was lovely and so was the room. More importantly, you didn't feel gouged financially. They didn't nickel and dime you. The pool wasn't ever too crowded, there was no saving of seats that weren't being used. Things were well tended so that kind of bad behavior didn't happen. Everyone was so nice and really helpful, and the whole atmosphere lent it self to total relaxation and fun. The best of the Starwood Hotels.

Room Tip: This is the kind of hotel where Ocean View really adds to your experience.

I stayed here 5 nights with my daughters. From the very start the service was excellent. The valet and bellman were quick to unload our bags, get us to registration, and get us to our room. We were using Starwood points and paid a bit extra for an upgraded room, which had butler service. The room was large and perfectly set up. Very few rooms at this hotel have lanais but the size of the room and huge windows made than a non-issue.

We had coffee delivered by the butler every morning and usually room service breakfast. There is a little coffee shop open in the morning where you can grab breakfast if you want. We usually were out at lunch, and then had dinner in Hanalei or at the hotel. The hotel restaurants and room service were all excellent.

The concierge helped us book horseback riding, surfing lessons, and a zip line tour - all excellent.

The pool and beach areas are gorgeous. The service for food and drinks is extremely attentive. The beach is nice and sheltered enough for swimming most days. Snorkeling was ok - the reef is a bit silted up and visibility was not great during our stay due to surf.

I would stay here again - love the north shore and that hotel. We moved to the Hyatt in Poipu for the rest of our trip and I wish we had stayed in Princeville.

I've been told I have impossibly high standards - for everything. But occassionally I'm surprised and someone or something comes along and exceeds my "impossibly high" expectations. I expected a lot of the St. Regis Princeville and they blew me away.

We had an ocean view suite and it was breath-taking. We were originally located adjacent to the pool but we asked to move for more privacy.

The rooms were spotless and very comfortable.
The staff was plentiful and extremely pleasant.
Best mai tais I've ever had were at the bar upstairs and the amazing view didn't hurt.
Kauai Grill was fantastic and had an entire vegetarian menu.
The spa was wonderful, as you'd expect.
When you head out in the morning (either with valet or walking to self-parking) the staff is there to give you ice-cold water and fresh towels for your adventures.
The conceirge was helpful in the weeks leading up to our trip, booking us on some great adventures in Kauai.
The St. Regis is pricey but well worth it.
My only criticism is for Makana Grill which needed a face lift (just felt old and dusty compared to the rest of the resort), and some price adjustments. It was drastically over-priced for the quality. However, given how fantastic the rest of the resort was it's not enough to reduce the ratings.

Wonderful place, excellent setting and very friendly accommodating staff from ck-in to ck-out! Has large open areas so families with small children, honeymooners and weddings etc can all feel welcome and accommodated. There is very little commercialization nearby, so this is not Myrtle Beach and very far from any WalMart!! Golf, horseback riding, biking, jogging and any beach activity are all readily available, and with a view of paradise! Kauai is more rustic than the other islands, but what a place to reconnect or "get away from it all".

From the moment you arrive, the friendly staff and smiles are instantly comforting. The view from the lobby brought me to tears. Makana restaurant is simply exquisite. I can't say enough about the perfect location. I mean, to see perfect surf, gorgeous lush green mountains, and humpback whales breaching from the deep blue Pacific right out your room's window... breathtaking!
