We dined at Makana terrace last night. We were married on Sunday the 6th so this was more than a special occasion for us. We were spoiled from the second we arrived. The hosts graciously sat us immediately even though we we were a half hour early. The view across the ocean to the Makana mountains from the terrace is amazing and a beautiful setting for a relaxing dinner atmosphere. All if our food and beverage selections were impeccable. The stand out dish was the Makana roll, great presentation, hand made, fantastic. Jinette was our server and was every bit a part of the experience, she was very informative on the menu and the surroundings. She was very attentive, and didn't smother us at the same time. My wife and I both have and do work at a four star four diamond property in AZ, it was so refreshing to us to receive the type of service we have always tried to provide. This experience will be one of the highlights of our trip for certain, thank you!!!!

Gorgeous setting, nice pool, small private beach. You have to drive or swim to Hanalei Bay--no walking access. The hotel restaurants are very, very expensive and not as good as we would expect given the cost. We had better dining luck in Hanelei, but the downside to that is having to wait for valet parking and driving yourself. The hotel gyms were nice and and overall service at the hotel is impeccable. The grounds are beautiful and the views are wonderful.

Room Tip: We enjoyed our ocean view rooms that were second level above ground floor--you have a sense of being...

Our honeymoon stay at the St Regis was sadly disappointing. Our room was not ready at the 4:00pm check in time and we were told to wait at the pool. After waiting in the rain for an hour, we were able to check into a room that was not private (as requested) and was not clean. We asked for a different room which did have more privacy but also had a major view obstruction (we paid for an ocean view). Other than our check-in experience, we were just disappointed by the pool (quite small) and beach...the St Regis is billed as a romantic vacation but it was loud and impersonal. As a honeymoon stay, this simply fell short of our expectations. We saved/spent what we consider to be a lot of money to splurge on this stay and left disappointed.

My wife and I recently stayed at the St. Regis Princeville for our third time. As in the past, the stay was exceptional. The room, view and service were impeccable. The Kauai Grill was excellent (although admittedly a bit pricey), and the Sunday Brunch remains amazing.

Room Tip: Always request an ocean view room. Although a bit more expensive, the view is one of the best in the...

We stayed 5 nights at the St.Regis on June 26 to July 1 , after spending 5 nights in Maui at the Andaz. The resort can not be located at a more beautiful location with waterfalls in the background and views of Hanalei Bay . We were upgraded to a room with a balcony and view of the mountains which was a very nice surprise , there was a bottle of champagne in are room as we were celebrating are 25th wedding anniversary .

Room 926: Very nice size room , but out dated. The bathroom has a step in tub shower that could be an issue with some people getting out after taking a shower. The sliding glass door going out to the balcony was very difficult to open and close. Their was a pile of sand on the carpeted hallway floor leading to are room that was there the first three nights we were there, we were taking bets on when it would be picked up, not what you expect from a 5 Star resort !

Resort: beautiful location however to get to the beach from are room on the 9th floor we had to take an elevator from 9 to 4 , then get in the hottest and slowest elevator from 4th floor to ground level, the air was not working on the 4th floor.

Service: I think we were spoiled coming from the Andaz and the service they provided there always friendly , smiling no matter what. We encountered a completely different service at the St. Regis, they seemed to be annoyed and barely smiled at times. The beach crew were hit or miss , Jervis was excellent and very friendly .Bar service at sunset outside on the terrace was terrible they needed more employees to deal with the amount of tables and people. We had requested a late check out and were told to check with the manager the night before checking out for availability , the manager told us the resort was 100% occupied and they can only offer the spa shower after check out at noon are flight was at 8pm. The next morning day of check out I went online and found numerous rooms available , I spoke to the day manager and she offered a check out for 3pm for an additional $100.

Sunday buffet: amazing food only complaint I couldn't eat more .

Overall we were expecting the best of everything service, location, accommodations and being treated as a special guest not just another paying customer. We feel the St.Regis came up short and we were a bit disappointed .

George

Sushi (my fav), an omelet station, crepes, crab legs, prime rib, shrimp, pork, chicken, pancakes, eggs, bacon, fresh fruits & salads, cheeses, and a desert table full of tempting treats to finish it off. As much as you can eat and & it's all delicious. We ate at 11am and had no need to eat again until the next day! Totally worth the money.

As you drive into the Princeville resort area, you know you are in for something special. Beautifully manicured lawns and lovely vistas... and the St. Regis is located right at the very end in the most prime location - with stunning views of Hanalei Bay.
We were greeted with a "welcome to the best of the best" and garlanded with some beautiful shell leis. The lounge area was very classy, and has a bit of an old-world charm.
My husband is an SPG Gold member and mentioned to them as we checked in, that we were celebrating our 10-year anniversary. However, there was no acknowledgement from the hotel staff about it (compare that to the Andaz in Maui, where they offered us complimentary cocktails and a cheese and fruits platter. We weren't looking to get anything free, but it's the thought that counts).
The rooms were nice, but felt a bit outdated - especially the dark-coloured bathrooms.
But the views from the room and also the balcony (where the hotel does a champagne sabering ritual every evening) were just spectacular. You'd never want to leave!
The concierge was helpful in providing tips for visiting Waimea Canyon and for making bookings for a Napali Bay boat tour.
All in all, it is a beautiful property and we had a very nice stay, but didn't feel they lived up to their claim of being "the best of the best".
