“I would stay again!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2014

During our annual visit to Kauai, we decided to splurge for a girls getaway -- me, my daughter and her friend. Our experience was amazing!

1. Excellent service from friendly staff in all areas -- valet, check-in desk, pool attendants, Doug and his crew behind the activity desk.

2. Our room was luxurious and had the best view ever of Hanalei Bay and Bali Hai. The grassy area extending from our patio was a special treat. One morning, we were greeted by Nene geese. Oh, so charming.

3. Classy, yet relaxed island ambience.

A special shout out to Shawn at the check-in desk. He exemplifies the true meaning of ALOHA -- friendly, always smiling, gracious, helpful, charming. We visited him a couple times a day just to say "hi" and see his smile and hear his laugh!

This is a truly spectacular property in a spectacular location with spectacular views. We will be back.

+ Exceptional service - even for a St. Regis
+ Best view on Kauai
+ Great, super comfortable bed
+ Great bathroom, with stunning view from the bathtub & cool "make it opaque" privacy window feature
+ Great beach, beach activities

- Property could use an exterior refresh
- Pool is great but doesn't have as many kid-friendly features as some other resorts
- Room furnishings are comfortable, elegant, but arguably starting to show age

We stayed in a Junior Suite Ocean View on the entry level (9th floor) with an absolutely spectacular view of Hanalei Bay. The room had a nice sized living area, with a sitting table next to the window; the window had sliding glass doors and screen sliders to open the window to the outdoors.

On arrival, at the motor court valet, I mentioned my name and the valet staff were expecting our arrival. I love it when hotels get this right.

We checked in (a bit early) and the room was not quite ready, so we went down to the pool and had a cocktail. Very nice setting. Bespoke, elegant. Great cocktails.

The pool area is very nice, though lacks waterslides and some of the more "resort-y" features. The glass tile on the bottom of the pool didn't jump out to us in pictures but has a really cool & unique effect when you're looking at it in the pool.

The beach area is awesome. Great beach, great snorkeling, great kayaking. Ocean water was slightly warmer than the (nicely warm) pool--though both were roughly the same perfect temperature as the 82 degree air. I understand that the Hanalei Bay water is best in the Summer (when Poipu swells are rough) and the waves get upwards of 40-50 feet in Winter (when Poipu swells are minimal). We were able to kayak and surf the 1-3 ft waves in our kayak. Fantastic. Though we agreed we have to come back to see those huge swells!

Nice proximity to North shore activity / food options, though mostly you go to Kauai to enjoy the peace, quiet and nature.

We had butler service with our room; they brought us complimentary French press coffee (wonderful, locally sourced) and the best, freshly made bakery biscotti we'd ever had. Super helpful, highly professional. In our experience, it's very hard to find this level of service in remote resort locations--even at premium properties (e.g., Lanai, Bora Bora, Taha'a, Moorea, etc.). They knocked it out of the park.

We didn't have any complaints, but would recommend skipping the Jean-Georges restaurant. The service was not up to par with the rest of the hotel; and the food was not up to his typical standards (e.g., we had an overcooked fish dish)... a couple of misses and not a great value. We regretted not going to another restaurant with our limited time on the island.

Overall, I can say that this St. Regis delivers in every way. It's not cheap, but it was--to us--a great value for the total experience.

Room Tip: Ocean view is well worth it. A number of comments seem to focus on the 4th floor transition--this w...

We found cockroaches in our room. Absolutely disgusting. We had to throw away our luggage and most of my purses and clothes. Thousands of dollars were wasted on what we threw away because of the SEVERAL cockroaches we found in our room. Our stay was great until we saw them.

What a great family visit we had at the St. Regis. It far exceeded any expectations we had, which were lofty given it was a St. Regis hotel. Every detail of this place was EXTRAORDINARY. From the rooms, to the pools, to the beach to the grounds, to the staff, and the food, and the....I can go on for days. I cannot describe how stunning and beautiful the views of the nearby mountains, waterfalls and oceans are to behold. Please stop what you are doing and make a reservation to stay at this hotel.

We recently stayed at this resort for five nights. We have previously stayed at the St. Regis Monarch Beach and the St. Regis San Francisco. The Princeville hotel has a beautiful setting, but that is where the comparison ends. Housekeeping was terrible - the room was filthy with layers of dust on the lamp, non working light bulb covered in dirt and dead insects, used coffee cups and glasses removed with cleaning but never replaced. Room service took much longer than we were told it would, the food expensive, the sushi "platter" had eight solitary pieces, and the tastes of all the food items bland. Paid $800/night for this? Complimentary parking was included in my AAA rate, however $30/day was listed on my folio at the end of my stay and I had to call to have that corrected (luckily I noticed). On the flip side, twice the dining service brought complimentary treats for the kids, and the poolside grill was surprisingly good. Overall, however, very disappointing. If we return to Kauai, we will without question stay the entire time at the Grand Hyatt, where we had a wonderful experience.

The views here are beautiful. The rooms are very nicely decorated and the beds are very comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. It is in a good location to explore Kauai. The restaurants are only OK, especially for the price, but there are other places to eat nearby.

Save your money. This place is way overpriced for what it is. The Marriott in Lihue had a better hotel, pool, restaurant, etc. The ONLY thing that this place has going for it is the view. The view. That's it. Why pay $500+ a night for this hotel - when the pool is mediocre, the food is average, and the spa is waaaaaay over priced for what you get! A huge eye opener after visiting.
