“Nice quiet place to get away”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 January 2013

My husband and I spent a week here for our anniversary. It was far away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Lihue. Very quiet...except for the roosters which did not bother us at all. (By the way, the roosters are all over the island so if you prefer the sound of gunshots, ambulances, and police sirens...you may want to stay in a big city. Princeville is more rural. The staff was courteous and helpful. The one bedroom had everything that we needed. Full kitchen with appliances, dishes, etc,and washer dryer in bathroom. The one bedroom did have a/c as well as ceiling fans. Nice shower but no bathtub. Flat screen TV in the living area and bedroom although you will probably not spend much time inside because there is so much to do on the island. It is beautiful. If you decide to stay here, let the staff help you with car rental and activities, You will save a whole lot more money with the discounts they can get. Food on the island is pricey. I shop at Whole Foods and Earthfare in Alabama (which I think are a bit pricey) but here the organic food stores were about 50% higher so be prepared for that. Shop around. prices can vary widely. I bought some spices and I saw then priced from $7 to $14 in different places on the island. The pool was small and there is no fitness center but you have access to larger pools and fitness center on the other Wyndham properties within blocks of this place. Enjoy!

Ths is pur second year here. The cottages are the perfect set-up for families. There's a large, open living room with bedrooms at opposite sides. Each has it's own full bathroom plus dressing area with lots of closet space. Kitchens and bathrooms have recently been redone and re-equipped. We are in 403 overlooking the golf course. Very private with a large deck overlooking the course. We celebrated Christmas here and it felt very homey. Staff is very friendly although there is the obligatory pressure to attend the time-share seminar (they are promising a $100 Amex gift certificate for our time). The pool and whirpool here are adequate, plus we can access the facilities at nearby Wyndham properties. We've been going to the Ka Eo Kai for their superior pool. You need a car here. Hanalei, one of the world's great beaches is a ten-minute drive. Grocery shopping is close by. Good BBQs by the pool area are a great option for dinner. Kids can swim while we cook. All in all a quiet, comfortable place for our family.

Full disclosure: Im an owner and I love that the cottages! The cottages are free standing 1200 square foot houses on the golf course. Remodeled with new furniture, granite countertops, these cottages have room to spread and are family friendly. No AC but louver windows and screened doors allow for easy room air circulation. Im in 402, right on the golf course and front facing views of the Napali coast.

If you dont know this property, there are condos and cottages. The condos are typical of many timeshares, 2 story buildings with smaller condos on each floor. The cottages are free-standing houses on the property, many of which are on the Makai golf course. I notice the reviews are all confused between the two types of units.

Ive been an owner since 1992 and know the area as well as the property well.

Room Tip: when you have a choice, take a cottage over a condo. Traveler photos are accurate--just notice the...

We stayed in a lovely 2 bedroom cottage facing the golf course. The area was quiet except for the roosters that crow at all hours. The unit was clean and comfortable. We had access to all of the pools in the Wyndham resorts in Princeville. Lovely area to walk. Close to great beaches 10-15 minute drive.

A really lovely cottage...well more like a house really. The things I remember most are the space, and the noise...sadly. We were on the road, and if it wasn't the noisey neighbours late at night, it was the gardeners getting stuck in really early. ...oh and the chickens....don't forget the early morning wake up call!
It was a shame that these lovely cottages could not have been placed somewhere quieter. They themselves deserve top marks for a pleasant stay. The changing room and bathroom areas are vast! Well appointed kitchen, and fabulous spacious sitting room with great high ceiling and balcony.
Value for money place in a great location. A great place with good facitities, and just right for exploring the northern end of the island

This was our first time staying in a timeshare and our first time to Kauai. We arrived a bit early, an hour or so, and had to wait til check in time (a bit annoying). We sat outside waiting patiently. They had juice in the lobby. They gave recommendations on what to do/see during the week. We stayed in a 1bedroom - newly renovated so it was nice and new and clean. Wash/dryer in the bathroom was very convenient, along with a few supplies provided like detergent and dish soap! Flat screen tv's in living room & bedroom and dvd player. Kitchen had utensils/cookware, all that we needed. The bathroom was nice with walk in shower that was large. Roosters & chickens were noisy at times and you can hear the rain or other noises (as mentioned louvers were the lower part under the windows).

We didn't get a mentioned grocery store card discount but that grocery store isn't that far, and they have a Redbox if you want to rent a movie. We frequented Lotus Garden (thai tea was great and the panang curry dish) and Frederico's for tacos - both delicious!

We'd stay here again but the location of Princeville is quite a drive from any of the other attractions, such as Napali coast or Waimea Canyon. After the Napali cruise it took maybe less than 2 hours to drive home in the rain. The resort does not have beach access. We drove to the beach in Hanalei. Knowing this, I'd rather stay closer to the water next time. don't want to spend half our time driving in the car.

Five of us shared a 2 bedroom cottage at the Makai Club. The cottage itself was great. It was very large with 2 master bedrooms, each with a separate changing area and very nice, modern bathroom with a shower with dual shower heads. The kitchen was a nice size and had all the amenities plus a table large enough to seat all of us. The main room was very large with comfortable seating for 8 people and vaulted ceilings. The room had a sofa bed where one of our party slept. The main room and both bedrooms had flat screen TVs. There was also a large deck. We were extremely happy with the cottage. It was very spacious and had everything we needed and was quite cheap for the space. There was no a/c but the breeze kept it quite cool.

Our main complaints were about the staff and noise levels. First, the clubhouse is closed so we had to check in at one of the other Wyndham properties. They were unable to give us our parking pass or our "welcome package" for some reason and told us to find the staff person at the pool at the Makai Club. This person was nowhere to be found and the staff at the Makai Club told us to go back to the other resort. I called and got more run around and we didn't get the parking pass until almost when we left and never got the "welcome package." They are also stingy with the coffee and detergent for the washing machines. We were told that the detergent was provided but they just give you a starter package and won't refill it.

Our first morning, we got a call at 8 am, waking up our entire party, to see if we wanted to go to the "island orientation" breakfast. Well, we hadn't gone because we wanted to sleep in past 8 am! Then there were maintenance workers cutting grass and weed whacking for the entire day- it was impossible to relax and read or take a nap with all of the noise! The next morning, we were woken up around 8 am by the noise of a ton of people at the pool (literally right in front of our condo) who had gathered for an island orientation breakfast. Then the presentation started and staff were singing South Pacific songs and screaming "ALOHA!" at the top of their lungs! At 8:30 am on a Saturday morning about 50 feet from our bedroom windows! Staff was not helpful at all when we spoke to them after the presentation about the noise level nor were they helpful when we called the management. Management said they would call us back later and never returned our call although they managed to call us and bug us about taking a property tour. We also learned that maintenance equipment was stored underneath our cottage so we had to deal with that noise as well.

Although the cottage itself was great I would not recommend staying here due to the unhelpful staff and high noise levels. The pool was also tiny.

Room Tip: Do not stay in cottage 404. It's right next to the pool and extremely noisy. We also learned t...
