“Nice surprise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 January 2008

My husband, myself and our 3 kids (aged 10,14 & 19) stayed at the Ali'i Kai fro Dec 29th - Jan 5th, 2008. We had a 2 bedroom condo and even though we didn't have an ocean view - we were in Ali'i Kai II condo # 10D - we had a lovely mountain view from our lanai. The condo was clean and well stocked. Along with a fully stocked kitchen, there was foil, plastic wrap, coffee filters, dishwasher detergent and even laundry detergent for the in-suite washer and dryer! There were plenty of bath towels and pool towels. We found the BBQ very convenient and never had a problem with it being too busy to use. The front office lent us snorkelling gear and beach chairs to use while we were there - left by previous guests! The complex was within walking distance (20 minutes) from the Princeville shopping centre and even though we had a car, it was nice to take a brisk walk around the golfcourse and to the shopping centre which had our favourite Lappert's ice cream store! We got this condo through a timeshare exchange and would recommend it, although it would've been nice to have an ocean view!

The management stuck us in the condo's directly across the street from a major construction project. The noise was unbearable. They also rent that block of condo's to locals who get up at 5 am and do laundry, watch tv, get ready for work, and to teenagers partying all night.

We complained bitterly and were told there were no other units available and there was nothing they could do. They refered us to our time share company who refered us back to the alli kai management.

Very disappointing, what a wasted vacation.

My wife and I stayed at the Ali'i Kai Condo Unit 3204 3-3-07 through 3-7-07. We were scheduled to stay until 3-10-07, but were notified on 3-8-07 that our only son had died.
The Condo was wonderful and the views beyond description. We hope to stay there again in the future. We truly enjoyed our stay.
The Condo and Kauai exceeded our hopes and expectations. I would recommend this Condo to any who want to relax.
We were able to watch the whales every morning from our Lanai.
Again, it was wonderful.

We just returned from our third visit to Kauai in 5 years. Each time we stayed at Alii Kai and each time we had a wonderful, well-kept condo.

This last time we stayed in unit 4202 (building 4, 2nd floor). It has a wonderful balcony that opens out on to a great view of the ocean. In fact, all the rooms have a great ocean view. The condo was modern, spacious, and nicely decorated.

The only down-side -- and this is no fault of the condo -- were the downstairs and next door neighbors, each of whom would go out on their balconies to smoke cigars and cigarettes. We had to close the windows because the ocean breeze would bring the smell inside.

Other than that, a wonderful time on the best place on earth.

My husband & I just returned 2 days ago from Kauai & spent the last 4 nights at Alii Kai, unit 3204. There is Alii Kai 1 & 2, this was number 1.

First the pros: fabulous ocean views from every room (why I picked this unit off the internet), nicely decorated, clean and was an end unit & very quiet (except for the roar of the ocean) and good value for the price ($175 + taxes + $130 for cleaning fee). The unit does include a cooler, 2 chairs, 1 pr fins & beach towels.

The cons: The pool was being repaired & is pretty tiny & uninviting looking anyway. No spa. I walked all over the condo complex looking for the BBQ, then called the owner asking where it was. He said to look outside the door near the palm tree. Well, the "BBQ" was a 2 Sq foot patch of cement that states "BBQ area." What are we supposed to do? Bring ours from the mainland? BBQ'ing fresh Ahi is one of the pleasures of Hawaii. The cleaning fee was higher than the other units since the owner is picky. Well, it is not justified since the windows were all dirty (they could at least clean the sliding glass door off the balcony!) and the place is full of tiny ants. There was also one (dying) large cockroach in the bedroom and virtually no condiments to speak of (only salt & pepper, no sugar, oil etc) and not a good selection of kitchen items (bowls etc).

Would I stay there again? No. I would recommend it to those who just want to stare at the ocean but not cook.

I'm sitting in Unit 1103 in Alii Kai II right now. The refrigerator works great and so does the shower. The shower only leaks if you leave the shower curtain OUTSIDE the tub, but as long as you use it right everything is great. Paper towels, detergent, dishwashing liquid, spice racks, everything is provided. Perhaps the owner wisened up after the last post. Plenty of toilet paper and we got extra toilet paper from the Alii Kai office. My only possible issue with this unit is that almost every day, a new cricket manages to get inside the unit. We kill it and move on, but the next day another one sneaks in somewhere. Maybe if anyone from Alii Kai reads this, can you put in a new roach trap or something?

Beyond the unit itself, there's plenty of parking and the trash dumpster is nearby. There are no views of the ocean or anything, but there's a great cross-breeze through the unit to keep the place feeling wonderful, and the lanai is quite comfortable and overlooks a ravine.

This unit was furnished fine, but the refrigerator leaked terribly, as did the master shower... couldn't even use it! Unit was poorly equipped, we had to buy everything, even basic cleaning supplies to wipe down kitchen and bathroom. No handsoap, washclothes, etc... not things you should have to think about on a week long vacation. We expected to buy food supplies, but not toilet paper and Fantastic, sponges, etc.
