“Six Night Stay At Inn Waimea”
Reviewed 2 September 2013

The Inn Waimea is my "go to" place to stay while visiting family in my hometown of Waimea Kauai. It is convinient for those who stay on the west side and is clean, comfortable and affordable. It's quite at night, and a cool breeze usually blows though the open windows. Coffee bar, and refrigerator come in handy.

Room Tip: If you want a partial biew of the ocean, choose the bamboo suite.

If you are looking for a quiet, off the beaten track place to stay, this is it. We stayed in the Banana Suite. Nice, clean, going to sleep listening to the sound of the waves (500 feet away) and wake to the sound of chickens (they are all over Kauai). It isn't a tourist trap or resort. Just a nice, clean, comfy inn perfect for someone wanting to get away for it all.

Room Tip: Recommend the Banana Suite.

My husband and I spent 3 nights at the Inn Waimea, in the Hibiscus Suite, and loved it. The inn is just 4 rooms. The furniture was a bit dated but it was very cute and comfortable overall. Our room was quite large for the price. The bedroom had a queen bed and was a nice size. We also had a sitting room with a pull out couch, desk, small table, and TV. The bathroom was in between and was very nice and modern. There was a door that closed between the bedroom and bathroom which worked out well when one of us was sleeping and the other was awake and wanted to read; we were able to not disturb each other. The room would also work well for a small family or friends who wanted to save money.

There is no a/c, pool, or 24 hour reception. There also is not any housekeeping service and only soap was provided but no other toiletries. This was fine with us but something to be aware of it you require those kinds of things. There is a basket by the front door with items like bug spray and sunscreen which was very thoughtful. The manager Lorraine was very nice and friendly.

The inn is just one house in from the beach and a block from the main road in town. The entire town of Waimea was within walking distance. The town itself is adorable and not resorty and touristy. The only problem with the town is that it shuts down at night. The best places to eat (Shrimp Station, Island Taco) are only open until about 5. The dinner options were very limited and there is no nightlife. So just be prepared for a quiet night in unless you want to drive to Poipu.

The only very minor complaints we had were that it took a long time for the hot water to come on, and then you basically couldn't turn it down. So it was either a very cold shower or an uncomfortably hot one. I also disliked that the curtains in the bedroom were sheer and white- they did not block out the sun at all! And bring earplugs if you might be bothered by roosters before sunrise. (This is true for most of Kauai.)

I would highly recommend the Inn Waimea. It was a great value!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Hibiscus room. It was large and we really liked it. I would chose the Bamboo suit...

We just checked out of Inn Waimea and we had a wonderful stay there. It's a charming, old-style inn in down-home Waimea with just four rooms. The broad lanai always had a comfortable breeze blowing gently through -- it's a great place to relax and enjoy the day. We stayed in the Bamboo Suite (upstairs, ocean-side with a view and great cross-breezes) and found it super comfortable and reasonably priced. Important for us was that it was half a block from the main part of Waimea town -- we like to minimize driving. And, as others have mentioned, it's spitting distance from a nice walking beach. They also provide coffee/tea, snacks, and refrigerators in all the rooms. The best part of the stay was our hostess, Lorraine. She was welcoming and warm and made sure that all our needs were taken care of -- it felt more like staying with a favorite cousin than some impersonal hotel. She was always there with a smile and a recommendation for us. We have been to Kauai many, many times and generally stay on the north shore. But there are several Kokee/Waimea hikes that we've been wanting to do so on this trip, we planned four days in Waimea as a launching pad for our hikes. This was simply perfect for us. I will say that if you are looking for a tropical resort with all those kinds of amenities, this probably isn't the place for you and Waimea is probably not your town. But if you want to explore the west side of this magnificant island, I highly recommend Inn Waimea.

Room Tip: One of the suites downstairs has a hot but, but we loved the Bamboo Suite upstairs -- ocean view, gr...

Inn Waimea is a lovely, tropical, no frill, get away from the rest of the world. It's quant setting and cozy rooms, make me feel like I am back at my grandmothers home. Nestled back in a community, Inn Waimea is just one block cottage away from the beach. In the evening there are wonderful breezes that blow through the windows. I stay here on my business trips to the island and am looking forward to bringing my family there with me soon. If you need something fancy with airconditioning and full service this is not for you. If you want a break from the high paced world, with wonderful ocean breezes and quite (except for the occassional roosters crow), with nice little touches than this is the perfect place. Thank you Inn Waimea for a great home away from home.

The staff cares about you, the beach is right there, and if you're visiting the canyon, it is convenient. The plumbing was creaky, the bed hard, but there was a fridge and snacks at no charge. Very clean and tidy. Nice front porch and off-street parking.

I stayed at the Inn Waimei a second time, and it was just as good the second time around.

I stayed in the Hibiscus suite (on the 2nd floor) for two nights and then moved over to the Bamboo Suite for five more nights. I liked the Bamboo Suite better because you can hear the ocean, but both rooms are nice and have a good cross-breeze.

The wild chickens in the area can be a bit annoying at times, as another reviewer mentioned, but I personally found it tolerable. There are some restaurants and grocery stores in the town, including a nice restaurant at the Waimei Plantation Cottages, on the edge of town.

The biggest pluses for the Inn Waimei are the value and pleasant atmosphere (including the inn manager, Lorraine), and the biggest plus for the town of Waimei is the consistently sunny weather, which is especially important if you visit Kauai outside of the summer months.
