“Beware of pool policy”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

The Lodge at Koele is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful setting that is completely different than any other hotel exoerience on any other island. The hotel sits at a higher elevation and is surrounded by tall trees and lush vegetation. You get a terrific "Four Seasons" welcome and the service is excellent.

Advantages over Manele Bay - cooler temperature, totally different landscape, peaceful, and a short (1 mile) walk into town. Shuttles are also available to take you into town or down to Manele Bay.

Disadvantages - They have instituted a non-reciprocal pool policy, which means that if you stay at the Lodge, you cannot use the pool facilities at Manele, and vice-versa. This may be an issue if it is raining in Koele and sunny at Manele. However, there are attendants on the beach that can set you up in lounge chairs and take care of you.

May was a great time to be on Lanai'i, but keep in mind that if you go the last week in May, there will be High School graduations happenning, which means that some of the local restaurants in town will not be open late.

Rental Car - the only "Name" rental car agency on the island is Dollar. A jeep rental through Dollar was about $150 per day. Yes, per day. However, there are some good local rentals, like "Fred's" which are much cheaper.

My family and I stayed one night on Lanai at the Lodge at Koele. The hotel was beautiful but definitely catering toward an older crowd. My sister and I (just out of college) spent most of our time at the Manele Bay beach and would probably hace rather stayed there. Also, any extra guests over 2 is $100 per person per night. Also, to use the shuttle the Four Seasons offers it is $47.50 PER PERSON. Which we found to be outrageous. The staff was courteous and if you like quiet, serene garden landscapes, this hotel is for you. They also have a beautiful stables and offer horseback rides.

This was THE MOST memorable trip for my family and I to Lanai!

The staff and management were all awesome and friendly and incredibly accommodating!

We got in early from Honolulu at 6:30 a.m. and were immediately provided with a room from Fiona. In the past, I have always had to wait until 3:00 p.m. to check-in. I was even able to get a late check-out time and changed my flight departure to a later time because my family didn't want to leave the island/hotels.

Plenty of free amenities at Manele Bay...beach chairs w/an umbrella were put out for us at the beach and bottomless free Ono lemonade and water to drink. The beach attendants also served us free sandwiches, pineapple, and water while laying on the beach as well. The local beach attendants - Jay B., Jay, Phillip, Josh, Chris, and Marlon were all fun to talk story with, very professional and cordial, and are all an asset to the hotel!!!

The Lodge also had free croquet and an 18-hole miniature golf on real greens, free DVDs, and endless bottled waters.

This was an awesome vacation, memorable experience, and probably our best stay at a resort hotel ever!!!

Mahalo!!!

We stayed at The Lodge for 3 nights last year and were so impressed we stayed 9 nights this year. This year's experience was even better! From the moment they greet you in their new lounge at the Honolulu airport to the moment we left, we felt like an honored guest. This level of service is rare. The entire staff, many of whom we got to know, were wonderful and made us feel like family. What an extraordinary 5-star experience! We look forward to our return next year!

Stayed with my hubby for the weekend to celebrate his birthday. We were greeted with aloha as soon as we arrived ferry-shuttle-hotel. They even surprised us with a personalized card and yummy cake. Our room was located with an awesome view for sunset, but the weather did not cooperate; but horses in the pasture was a beautiful view In itself. Our suite was roomy, comforting and relaxing.
The restaurants were a little pricey especially "the dinning room" $$$$$ and I wasn't impressed with the starter ($20 two 1/2 dollar size crab cakes) on a bed of tiny greens...bland. My main dish snapper fish was excellent. The pineapple soufflé was delicious,
The grounds were beautiful...my only disappointment was the weather made it impossible to experience the hike nearby. And the golf course was in repair. Also, I was charged for 2 additional charges despite prearrangements being done..??!!
The shuttle to manele resort is convenient, to other restaurants, beach, and golf etc.. Overall, 5 stars and I would definitely return.

Room Tip: Corner suites across the stables are beautiful and roomy with a view.

I have visited this hotel three times and it has become my preferred escape from reality. I love everything about it, from the arrival at the quaint airport, to the shuttle ride through pine trees, even the tour of Lanai City (that doesn't even have a stoplight). Here, time slows down to a luxurious, personal pace.

The hotel lobby has recently been renovated and retains much of it's lodge-like charm, but with a new millennium attitude. The gardens are still stunning, but I miss some of the Asian artwork that formerly decorated the grounds under previous ownership. The rooms are aging, but kept in excellent shape by Four Seasons. In general, though, they could use new carpet. The beds are amazing and, having stayed in other Four Seasons, I have become a big fan of the package.

The food on the island is good, but pricey. One may shuttle between the two hotels (Four Seasons Manele Bay and The Lodge at Koele) for a small fee. It is easy to load into a van to drive to a different environment for lunch.

Despite a few minor inconveniences, it is beautiful to spend time at this serene, peaceful hotel with graceful staff who learns your name, and the kind of healing power only years of therapy might provide.

I've stayed at the lodge a couple times; both with my husband and with my toddler son. While it's definitely not a place for a small child, the staff and the grounds are impecable in any situation. The food is delicious, the staff is friendly, the rooms are spacious, and the hotel is simply perfect. The pool is relatively small and understated, but you feel like you're staying at a great private home rather than a hotel. It's intimate, warm, and an absolutely wonderful place for a romantic getaway. I would recommend leaving the kids at home, if possible. However, that is only so you and a partner can really enjoy the solitude and mature ambiance of this beautiful property.
