“Blast from the past.”
Reviewed 24 December 2013

Do not miss this blast from the past if you are visiting Maui ( GO TO LANAI.!) - book well in advance ( honeymoon cottage.) take the ferry over, free shuttle to the hotel and Sara ( at Hotel.) can line you up a jeep.
The hotel ( not really a "Hotel" ) is a blast from the past, and now that "Larry E." owns the Island who knows what it`s future is - but - while you can, visit Lanai, tour the island ( 4x4 a must .) it is unspoiled and largely unvisited. Fantastic beaches / historic heritage sites / scenic wonders.
The Lanai Hotel is affordable, great ambiance, friendly staff, excellent food ( award winning.) and it even has music on Friday nights.
Manele Bay has some of the best snorkelling in all of Hawaii and you can walk to it from the ferry if you only take a day trip.
Enjoy - Mahalo.

Room Tip: The cottage is well worth booking in advance - it is very special.

A friend and I stayed at Hotel Lana'i for a week in December. It is a very simple, clean and charming hotel. The rooms are decorated with beautiful hawaiian quilts, fans and local art work. The building was built in the 1920's and has retained many original features. If you are a light sleeper, bring ear plugs because you can hear what goes on in rooms with adjoining walls. The hotel staff made us feel very welcome and responded easily to any need we had. Thank you again Jolie, Shanette, Bert, and Sarah for helping make our vacation one of a kind. Also, the Lana'i Grill was awesome!

Room Tip: Try and book a room with a lanai or the cottage. It is nice to be able to sit outside comfortably.

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at this charming hotel on our honeymoon. For an island dominated by the Four Seasons, we found this an incredible compromise. We stayed in the Cottage which is detached from the rest of the hotel and provides maximum privacy. The Cottage has a living room (with television), bathroom, and the bedroom (with queen bed). Its very spacious and includes a nice lounge area with a hammock and table right outside (private). We found the cottage to be very clean and perfect for our needs.

The Hotel Lanai staff were very friendly. They provide continental breakfast every morning which is simple but convenient. They also will provide beach towels at request. Parking is free and they offer a shuttle for a small fee that will bring you to the various Four Season Resorts on the island. One thing I would caution is that you are unable to use the amenities (i.e., pool) at the four seasons unless you are a guest at the hotel (this is strictly enforced). As such you are limited to the beaches and the public pool when staying at Hotel Lanai. We did not however find this to be a big deal.

The hotel itself is rich with history and occupancy is limited as there are only 10 rooms plus the cottage. Its located in the middle of town so you easily can interact with the locals and get the full Hawaii experience. I definitely recommend this hotel to any travelers, the value you get with this hotel (especially the cottage) is unmatched.

Room Tip: Get the Cottage, you won't regret it.

We are originally mainlanders, but have lived in Hawaii Kai on the island of Oahu for 40 years, and have stayed at the Hotel Lanai many times over the years. It remains our favorite on the wonderful, charming island of Lanai. We had the absolute best night's sleep there the four nights we spent over the past long Thanksgiving weekend...the MATTRESSES are the MOST COMFORTABLE of ANY hotel in which we have stayed in our decades of travel throughout the world, which includes numerous five-star resorts. Amazing! Hotel Lanai's staff live the Aloha spirit, making everyone feel at home, and seem more than happy to accommodate your requests. We love the décor of the rooms, feels like Hawaii. Very clean! Complete with small refrig, hair dryer, and they even have a cooler in your room for you to take with you to the beach. The picturesque tiny town of Lanai City is a block away surrounding their park and has two small stores, and great small local restaurants from which to choose. The hotel grounds are beautiful, the two rooms facing the front have lanais to sit on, all rooms feel relaxing and tranquil maybe because the hotel is small with only 10 rooms and a cottage, see photos on their website. Read the other reviews expressing the hotel's other great points. They have a popular and wonderful restaurant and bar, Lanai City Grill, a gathering spot for local families, Hotel Lanai guests, as well as guests from the other two five-star hotels on the island. Always good conversation to be had. We love it. Can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: ALL ROOMS GOOD ~ call the hotel and talk with the front desk, they will help you choose the perfect...

The thing I liked most about this hotel, was that it had no tv's in the guest rooms. After all, what's a vacation for, if you take the world with you via tv? Also, it is right in front of Dole Park where you have access to Blue Ginger, 565, and Canoes to eat at, with huge food plates, and cheap prices. Also, the Lanai Grille at the Hotel itself, can hold its own with the two 4 Seasons hotels with half the prices! Can still take the shuttles to Koele, Manele Bay, or the airport. The Hawaiian quilts are really nice, and the overhead fans are a great bonus. The island is cool enough on its own.

Room Tip: Its not the 4 Seasons, but neither are the prices, and you can still hunt, or play golf.

Built in the 1920’s, this hotel maintains a historic feel. The rooms are basic, but small details like original doorknobs on the door, woven mats on the floor and handmade quilts on the bed make for a delightful stay. The big windows which look out onto the garden in front are a constant reminder that you are in a tropical paradise. If you are hungry in the morning, perhaps head over to the Blue Star Ginger Café, as the continental breakfast is pretty sparse, and in a fatal flaw, uses fruit trucked in from the mainland rather than local island-grown fruit, of which there is plenty. However, the baked goods do seem to be homemade and are quite good. It is a great location, right in Lanai City, however you do have to take a shuttle to the beach. As a tip, unlimited shuttle access is an extra $30/day, but I think you can also just pay $10 to ride the shuttle, and even if you have to pay per ride (but the $10 might cover the entire day), you will probably come out ahead. The Four Seasons Lodge at Koele is walking distance, and it is really fun to just walk through the lobby and out to the gardens. The lobby is sort of Indiana Jones-esque, with high wood ceilings, high-back chairs with coffee tables made out of huge logs, and two fireplaces. The restaurant has venison on the menu, and the garden is also the start of an amazing 5 mile roundtrip hike to Koilokoi Ridge.

This was our third trip to Lanai, and second stay at Hotel Lanai. We love watching the town go by from our lanai. The members of the staff and management are all very welcoming. Continental breakfast was a great way to start our day. Dinner at the restaurant onsite is not to be missed; plan to have part of it for lunch the next day!

Room Tip: We love the lanai rooms!
