“Undoubtedly the Best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 March 2014

My wife and I finished a 10 night stay at the Maui Tradewinds a few weeks ago. We have travelled around the world and found our experience here to be the very best. Bev and David are superb hosts, always there when you need help, but never intrusive. We stayed in the suite, which is the lower portion of the hosts' home. If we were at all concerned about privacy, whether in our living quarters or the large outdoor spa tub, it quickly vanished. We felt alone on this wonderful property. Everything is provided for a complete and comfortable stay. The location on the north side is ideal as it is a short drive to Haiku, Paia and the upcountry with fun shopping and great affordable restaurants. We cannot recommend Maui Tradewinds enough, in fact we have already booked a stay with Bev and David for this November.

Maui Tradewinds couldn't have been a more perfect stop for our first few days in Hawaii, after the hustle and bustle of life in Sydney. After a warm greeting from Bev, she showed us around the suite which is spacious, clean, comfortable and private. There were generous grocery supplies, lots of kitchen equipment, a huge fridge, fresh flowers and fruit -- everything we could wish for in a space we could call our own for a few glorious days. Bev and David were there when we needed them, but respected our privacy. The view from the lanai is just magnificent, the garden is gorgeous, the bed is super-comfortable, the bathroom is well stocked with everything one could need, the TV has multiple cable channels.... I could go on and on.

Thank you Bev and David for creating this beautiful oasis which is just perfect for recharging one's batteries!

We spent a month on Maui, first on the dry west side (Kehei), then took a week in the Haiku area on the north end of Maui and despite not being right on the Pacific, the Maui Tradewinds more than made up for it in the quality of our stay. It is easily one of the best places we have ever stayed at. Our place had a huge 60 foot deck overlooking Haleakala and a green tropical vista that you can totally get lost in. The hot tub on the deck was that nice little extra for star gazing.
Beaches are near Paia and an easy drive, plus the winding back roads are close to Haiku town, Makawao and an easy start to the drive up to Haleakala.
The beds were very comfy and the kitchen extremely well stocked. Ours had 2 bedrooms and lots of room, if another couple wanted to join in...although we really liked the space just for us (space we didn't have in Kehei). TV had all the satellite stations and the WIFI was the best quality we've ever had in any of our stays.
Bev and David are gracious hosts and would do pretty much anything for you and the little geckos who patrolled the property provided all the good luck you could want. All in all, this was a first class place to stay and if we could pick it up and take it with us wherever we travelled to, there is no hotel that would ever get our money. Well done!

Room Tip: Good grocery options in Makawao and Haiku. No need to fight the raging masses in Paia! That place is...

We wanted a slightly out of the way, non resort stay on Maui, and the Maui Tradewinds was perfect. Bev and David are great hosts and are just a phone call away. They offer a lot of island information, yet respect the privacy of their guests. Their attention to details such as flowers and chocolates upon arrival for my birthday are what makes this place so special. The view is spectacular. Haleakala and the West Maui mountains all the way to the coast. Lush vegetation and lovely gardens surround the suite the outdoor hot tub and outdoor kitchen immersing you in nature. Tiki torches can be turned on in the evening for island ambiance. The large bathroom is well appointed and the addition of the sauna adds to the relaxation of the suite overall. The towns of Haiku ans Paia are a short drive. Both have great grocery stores, shopping, restaurants and local flavor. The spacious suite is an inviting luxurious and comfortable local feeling island getaway. We are already planning for our next visit.

We stayed 4 days at the Maui Trade Winds suit and our only regret is that we spent our first 5 days on the island at a luxury hotel. The place is absolutely amazing. Great view , somewhat secluded yet a very short drive to the small town of Paia to enjoy many great places to eat and do what you wish. Bev and David are great hosts and are available at any time you may need them. They are there but you can see them as much or as little as you wish. Get up in the morning, make your coffee and just relax . All the benefits of home but 10 times better. Definitely going to stay there on our next visit

We stayed five days at Tradewinds and enjoyed the lovely location with beautiful view and our relaxing suite (with hot tube and a big hammock). The hosts Bev and David are very generous and respect privacy. Our suite was decorated with a large bouquet of fresh flowers and we loved the fresh fruits our hosts provided. We were also happy that we could use the washing machine to wash our cloths.

We just returned from a two week stay at StarWind Cottage - our second stay here over the last few years. We can't imagine staying anywhere else. The home is located in Haiku, just a few minutes from the great little town of Paia. This is the least touristy part of Maui - you really feel like a local when staying on this side of the island.
Here are the highlights that keep us coming back:
* first and foremost - the hosts keep us coming back. Bev & David are such special people. They are very attentive to details, strive very hard to make sure you have all you need for a special stay, fill the kitchen with goodies upon arrival, go above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable and enjoying your time on Maui. It is so refreshing to find folks who take such pride in what they do. They sincerely want honest feedback so they can constantly improve the experience. Even after we arrived back home to Florida, we were in touch with them and mentioned that we had searched unsuccessfully at several grocery stores on Maui to find a particular type of taro pancake mix that we wanted to bring home with us. Next thing we know, Bev has found 6 bags for us at a grocery there and mailed them to us in Florida.
* the home is very clean!
* comfortable home, and very functional
* really comfortable beds
* great garden bathtub surrounded by windows with views of the beautiful (and private) garden.
* huge deck with incredible views of Haleakala, the mountains and lush greenery of the valley
* great hot tub on deck, tons of outdoor seating - THE BEST PLACE TO STARGAZE!!! Very little light pollution in this area at night makes for the best stargazing we've ever experienced. We always see shooting stars.
* great outdoor seating in the garden, charcoal grill and terrific gas tiki torches - great spot for dining alfresco!
* very well equipped kitchen - we cooked tons of meals at home and had most everything we needed. If we needed something we couldn't find then we made one call to Bev and within minutes we had the needed item - different sized baking pan, a particular type of cookbook, 1/2 teaspoon of a particular spice, etc.
* we had our 4 year old son with us - Bev & David made sure that he had all the right outdoor/beach toys to play with.
* the lilikoi, limes and apple bananas that Bev harvests right on the property and brings to you every couple of days.
All in all, this is the best rental home experience we've ever had. We are always sad to leave and will always go back! We won't stay anywhere else on Maui any longer! We used to island hop when we traveled to Hawaii - staying 4-5 days on each island. When we found StarWind in 2009, we started staying in one spot for two weeks at a time. We'll never do it any differently now!
You will not be disappointed in StarWind!
