Aloha to our hosts Bev and David! We are home now back in Pennsylvania (sad face) but the memories of our 25th anniversary at Starwind Cottage will be cherished for many years to come. The actual cottage is as beautiful, if not more beautiful, than the pictures on the website. Believe the reviews you are reading here because this is a "must stay" (unless you prefer the hustle and bustle of urban hotels). The views of both Mt. Haleakala and the ocean from the hot tub on the deck are superb and couldn't be more relaxing - we couldn't get enough of it. It was just what we needed. The cottage is very private and off the beaten path - which is exactly what we were looking for. There's nothing like sitting on a deck in a private hot tub with outstanding views as the sun is setting, followed by bright stars as the night wears on.

Bev and David are close if you need them but you'll hardly see them or anyone else if you don't want to! They are there to make your stay as wonderful as possible but are very respectful of your privacy.

The beds were extremely comfy and for the 9 nights we were there we still can't believe we never used the air conditioning (the master bedroom has an air conditioner). We were certain we'd need it but the design of the cottage and the fresh ocean breeze kept the nights plenty cool to sleep without it.

This was everything we hoped it would be - and MORE. After showing the pictures and describing it, I've already been asked by two different people for the Maui Tradewinds website (a friend and a colleague) and both said they are planning on going to Maui in the next year or so and will now very likely stay here if it's available.

Bev and David - we'll be back (with another couple) - but it won't be soon enough. Thanks for everything.

Rick & Cindy

(Tips to people who stay here: Take a look through the information Bev and David leave for you. It wasn't until the day we left that we realized there is a grocery store not far away in Haiku instead of running into Kahului. Also, while there are many waterfalls on the road to Hana, don't miss the falls that are closest to the cottage called Twin Falls - only about 4 miles away in the direction of Hana. There are several falls and pools along trail at Twin Falls with the furthest being about a 3/4 mile hike but it's well worth it.)

Thank you for your review, and we're delighted that you enjoyed your visit. We're pleased to hear that the actual experience surpassed your anticipation from the photos on our website. Of course, we want the website to have appeal, but we'd prefer that the reality exceed our guest's expectations, rather than the other way around!

This is our 10th time to Maui Tradewinds and we have been to all the main islands and numerous accomodations. Tradewinds is ourfavorite. The location is so beautiful, that you can spend 15 nights and have a wonderfully relaxing time without rushing to a beach, a hike or a tour.

We barbecue by the tiki torches, watch sunsets, stars and satelites streaming through the night sky from the jacuzzi and we drift to sleep on the hammock for two that is protected from the rain. And the trip is worth the outdoor shower alone...

The best places to eat are on this side of the island (Colleens, Dazoo, Mamas, Milagros, Fish Market and Market Bistro to name a few) The MACC is 20 minutes away (we go each time and see local and international entertainment).

Dave, Bev and Derrick are the icing on the vacation. They are the family you would choose.

North Shore is where you find "Aloha" on Maui.

We will be back in May 2015!

Our 5-night stay at the StarWind cottage in early June was ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL! This lovely vacation rental is an intriguingly beautiful Hawaiian treasure! A magical place of exotic flowers, sweetly-singing tropical birds, expansive green forests and blue ocean views. The added surprise of unexpected colorful rainbows were truly awe striking!

The StarWind with Maui Tradewinds is a convenient drive from Kahului Airport, and to Paia and the other lovely local towns in upcountry Maui. The vibrantly landscaped, 2-bedroom cottage is very private and structured perfectly for four adults, or an average-size family. The first-class accommodations provided everything we needed, with added entertainment amenities and beach equipment for excursions away. The kitchen is well-equipped, and the great variety of breakfast provisions were abundant. The colorful tropical flowers are beautiful and the home-grown fruits were delicious! The large back deck offers jaw-dropping, gorgeous views of the surrounding tropical forest and expansive ocean coastline. The outdoor shower was a fun new experience and the bonus of a private hot tub was fabulous in the mornings and evenings.

Communication with Maui Tradewinds before, during and after our vacation was excellent. The hosts are on site and they were very welcoming and helpful from the moment we arrived. Our personal privacy was greatly respected and they were always available to us, if we needed anything. They did everything possible to make sure that our stay at the cottage was PERFECT. Bev and David, "Mahalo nui loa!" for your wonderful expression of island Aloha. We had a fantastic stay and hope to return sometime in the near future. We appreciate everything... you are the best!

Room Tip: Large outside deck: Excellent Hot Tub and outdoor shower: Excellent Landscaping: Excellent

At the beginning of May, we stayed in the Maui Tradewinds suite for our second time. We love it!!! Don't hestiate to stay here. You will have everything you need. Like a home again from home. So private. Love, love, love the garden area. Can't say enough about the flowers. It is so wonderful to wake up to the birds chirping. Your own private hot tub and hammock are a plus. Love that there is a washer and dryer to help reduce clothing that needs to be packed. Bev is so helpful when you need something. She has thought of everything. This is the place for you if you are looking for something away from the tourist area. Bev and David, thank you for everything. Your place always gives us lasting memories. Hope to be back someday.

Room Tip: The suite is very private even though underneath the owners' home. Unless you need them, you won...

We stayed at the Tradewinds for 5 nights in May. The whole experience exceeded any possible expectations that we might have had. We have stayed in B&B's all over the world in exotic places but this must be the best we have ever stayed in. It really was home from home with every possible need catered for. Bev and David have certainly thought of everything that you might need to ensure your stay there goes well. The location and the gardens are idyllic, a perfect setting for a hot tub soak under the stars.

My friends and I were blessed to have 6 nights here. What a special place! Nestled into the side of a hill, views across the valley, up to the volcano and down to the ocean. Magnificent! A large deck with lounges to sun-bake and read a book, comfy beds to sleep in, and a well stocked library. More importantly Bev greeted us and was so helpful. Providing for all our breakfast needs. It truly is a home away from home! We didn't want to leave.

This is the best home base while staying in Maui. It was secluded but close to everything. I wish we could have stayed longer and will definitely stay again if we return. Bev greeted us upon arrival and couldn't be more helpful. She made our stay so easy. Everything you need is made available and if you need more, just ask. The bed was so comfortable after a long day of exploring and watching the stars in the hot tub was blissful. Having a wonderful place to call home while vacationing made our trip that much more enjoyable. Thank you for being so kind and generous. Mahalo!!
