This was our 2nd trip to Maui we chose to spend one week in the country, this was a beautiful location & wonderful accomodations. Anjali was a wonderful host & our accomodations where exceptionally clean however this did not keep away the cockroaches. We kept our apartment clean always put away food & frequently changed our garbages but could not keep away the little critters. We where aware it was an eco-friendly environment but may have been a bit naive as to what that means. Had we have known we we would be visited by a cochroache or 2 everyday we would not have chosen this location. This is a beautiful place to stay but I just feel that people need to be aware of this before making thier decision.

We are grateful for this review and would like to mention the following. Our property is in an agricultural area surrounded by nature all around as opposed to having concrete everywhere. At certian times of the year critters from the pineapple fields come about and they are not the same as the roaches on the mainland. They are harmless as opposed to spraying insectisides and pestisides all around the property which when it rains is spread in places where it should not be. Also then it is not good for guests especially small children to walk around barefoot and enjoy various kinds of magical small tropical creatures including frogs, toads, variety of lizards and several species of rare and exotic birds which come to feed in our gardens.

My husband and I and our two boys, then ages 11 and 8, stayed here for a week in Aug'08 while on Maui for a relative's wedding. The location was fantastic - central but not in a tourist trap. We were very close to fun/funky shore town Paia and some beautifu beaches, right at the tip of the Road to Hana, and not too far from snorkeling sites and the Iao Valley. The cottage we stayed in was great. We had just the right amount of space, it was very clean, we had an ocean view, and the hostess was gracious and caring in her helpful hints about the area. We did a lot of offsite activities, but when were at the cottage, the nice open yard and decent sized pool were perfect outlets for our active boys. The only downside at all was that the patio did not have any kind of roof, so with it being summer it was a bit hot to enjoy it except at breakfast. All considered, though, this was a very minor point and I wholeheartedly recommend this facility.

We really liked the place. Great location. We could see the ocean from our porch. You don't get that every day! Me and my mom had breakfast every morning out on the porch. We had even party with new friends whom we met during our stay. The staff accommodate the grill for us. That was really great. Very close from main road and not far from the closest airport Kahului . Looking forward next year to come back! Super!

Maui Ocean Breezes consists of three guest units, and this was our second time staying in Whispering Bamboo cottage. We had complete privacy, stunning views, a fully stocked kitchen, and every possible extra touch to make the cottage "home". It was a perfect place to relax and recover from a stressful year. Although beaches and "sights" were generally 45 minutes to an hour drive away, it was always terrific to return to the cottage each day and have the solitude and quiet we craved. We had the gorgeous swimming pool to ourselves, night skies filled with starry constellations, and marveled at the environment of loving aloha created by our hostess. We will always return to this cottage when travelling to Maui, as it is the perfectly located at the beginning of the "Road to Hana" amid lush greenery, tropical plants, and bird song. Absolutely perfect!

My wife and two kids (5 and 6) stayed at Ocean Breeze in April for 2 weeks. The weather was poor but the location of Ocean Breeze is very priviledged, peace, tranquillity, the gulch beneath your feet, and the views over the ocean are all great. I have lived in Maui for one year and been there many times, and I can say this one of the best spots on the North Shore within reasonable distance from the windusrfing action and the beaches of the north shore. Anjali was a great host and we felt at ease right away.

My husband and I stayed in the Whispering Bamboo Cottage in Sept. and had a great stay at Ken & Anjali's peaceful property, tho we didn't get to meet them as they were away. Kailin their property manager was very nice and accomodating. What a beautiful setting, so peaceful and much cooler than when we stayed in Wailea in previous years. The pool was perfect to come back to after the activities of the day. We golfed at Pukalani, drove to the Bamboo forest in Hana and actually looked at many properties in hopes of moving there soon. Their restaurant recommendations in Haiku were right on, as we had great meals at Colleen's and Hana Hou - in fact we went back to Hana Hou a second time, as it was so good the first time. There was even some great live music to add to the evening's enjoyment. We would recommend this place to anyone who wants a peaceful retreat when they vacation on Maui.

Without a doubt this location is gorgeous. Fantastic views surrounded by lush greenery. The saltwater pool was another great feature. We used it at least twice a day. For a couple wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas, this may be your place. It's an especially good starting point for several Maui adventures, ie Hana, Halekala, North Shore, South Maui, hiking destinations, etc. If you're a family with little ones, however, I would consider another location. After our children were asked to be more quiet at the pool we had to constantly hush our children for the rest of the stay. Kind of a downer considering we were at least a hundred yards from the nearest neighbor. But I guess this was the "whispering bamboo cottage" after all. We realized a resort type destination with pools designed for kids, beaches only steps away, and other conveniences such as restaurants, grocery stores, and activities for kids would have been a better choice for us. Those types of locations are especially designed for families where kids can be loud and play for hours and retreat back to the condo when they're tired. Then they can run back out again in an hour and play some more. In addition, the condos are air conditioned which makes the mid day rest much more comfortable and relaxing. The bamboo cottage does not have ac which gets pretty toasty mid day. That's totally fine if you're a couple and don't need the mid day rest (ie naps for kids) and can easily take off in your car.

Moreover, the price of 195 a night seemed a little high. Especially with this economy. We were able to get a larger condo in Kapalua (ridge villas with ac) for the second week of our stay for 40 dollars cheaper a night. And they gave us a 100 dollar Kapalua resort credit. (also keep in mind there's no cleaning fees at the resorts either.)

With that in mind, Anjali, the owner, is very welcoming and we still had a pretty good time during our stay in Haiku. Like I said, if you are a couple wanting to get away from it all and want to take in the natural beauty of Maui, this may be the place for you.
