We arrived here after a loooong day doing the Hana Highway and beyond. We didn't end up getting to reception until 7:50pm. The room was much more modern than we expected. No TV which is great. We turned the fan on and left the doors open so we could listen to the ocean falling asleep and waking up. Bed was comfortable. Housekeeping do a great job. It was immaculate. Nice patio as well to relax on and the ocean view is quite nice but would be better if it weren't obstructed by the ocean front part of the hotel. Expensive. But worth it. Would not have had the energy to drive back to the west coast last night...

The condos of Hana Kai Maui are beautifully situated next to the ocean and within longer walking distance or a quick drive of most things in Hana. We stayed in unit 103, a 1-bedroom in the upper building that had a great view and received a nice sea breeze through all the louvred doors and windows. Although we only stayed one night, this would be a very comfortable place for a longer stay since it's got a fully equipped kitchen, lots of space, and a very nice vibe. Just remember to bring lots of groceries with you from the other end of the Hana Highway since there's a real dearth of supplies in the Hana stores and the restaurants are expensive and not particularly good (with the sole exception of Pranee's Thai place, which is only open until about 4pm). We stayed here so that we could do a variety of hikes in the area after driving the Hana Highway, avoiding a rushed return to Kahului or Kihei. It's quite expensive, but there are really very few options in Hana.

Nice , Privately held condos after the long road from Hana. Stayed three nights in Lanakila room.
Basically your left alone...choose room at the website..we were three.
Nice Asian design worked well with the cool Hana vibe. Had a great time. Expect to be left alone.

We wished we could have stayed longer at Hana Kai. The condo was comfortable, clean and had everything we needed for our stay. Everyone I spoke to was very helpful and friendly. The grounds were beautiful and we loved hearing the surf at night. Sitting on our lanai looking at the shore was our favourite activity - along with a cocktail or coffee. What a beautiful side of the island to escape to.

Room 204 was beyond our expectations. High end fixtures throughout. Very nicely appointed condo that slept 4 of us very comfortably. No air con, but not needed because of the pass through window arrangement to the bedroom. Cute little balcony off the bedroom as well as the huge lanai overlooking the ocean. What a view!
The sounds of the ocean are wonderful.
Make sure you bring food to make your own dinner in the lovely kitchen. Slim pickins' in the Hana stores. I don't know what the other condos looked like, but ours was amazing.
The black sand beach is special.

Room Tip: 204 had a king bed in the bedroom and a pullout queen in the living room. Every condo is different...

My wife and two children stayed here and enjoyed it very much. Although the hotel is a little tired and dated (no hot water first morning, and stairs being renovated, among other things), the view is worth the price of admission. Spring for one of the ocean-front units and you will have a view of the bay and beach that is second-to-none. Leave the window cracked and enjoy the waves crashing on shore throughout the night. Centrally located in Hana, it is a very short drive to the few restaurants and eating establishments in town, and is only a couple of miles from Wai'anapanapa State Park. Did I mention the view...?

Room Tip: Room 1 is a mini-suite (king bed with partition wall separating living room w/queen sofa bed) with f...

We were overwhelmed by the fantastic view of the black sand beach from Hana Kai on a recent visit there in February, 2014. Our accommodations were spacious and included a little kitchen, the wall of windows in the living and master, the beautiful lanai. We slept with the sound of the waves in the background. There is no ac - but that is more old Hawaii - and did not need it with the trade winds. We are so glad we stayed overnight rather than doing a round trip in one day.

Room Tip: Try for a higher room in the lower building nearest the beach.
