“A pleasant surprise and good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 August 2014

Being on the second floor and right on the main street, I didn't expect the inviting atmosphere and very good food. The service was great, the food was very good and fairly priced (for Maui). Put this on your list for good restaurants on Maui.

“Amazing Food & Service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 August 2014

I have not been in years, but had a fantastic dinner here with friends last week. They were impressed as were we......great menu, reasonably priced for the quality & portions, good service & amazing food! The only "wish" is that it had an ocean view, but the restaurant itself has a great atmosphere. One of the best dinners we have had out on Maui!

“Delicious meal!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 August 2014

We came here upon recommendation by a friend. It was busy, we had no reservation so had to wait about. 20-30 minutes for a table but figured that was a good sign. We had an amazing meal, the service was perfect and the food was very good. We both have worked in restaurants for many years so know what makes a good meal and this was it. Very reasonably priced for the quality too, 2 appetizers, 3 drinks and 2 mains came in at $90 (before tip). A winner!

“Like another reviewer - bugs crawling up the window”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2014

We had high expectations of this place, we had a reservation on the night the hurricane was supposed to hit the big island, and when we walked the mile from our hotel found a sign on the door saying they were closed. We made a reservation for 2 nights later, found the place was very busy on arrival. We were seated next to a window near the bar, our waiter Dio who quickly got us our first (and only) round of drinks. The restaurant itself is quite loud and our location near the bar probably impacted this more.

We ordered a seafood tower, which we advised wouldn't require us to have separate appetizers. Everything was lovely except the NZ mussels which had no flavour, like they had been washed out or possibly refrozen.

We were not offered another drink despite empty glasses for the majority of our dining time.

During the dinner I noticed a crawling bug climbing up the window, which I promptly squished with the extra fork on the table, and left this on the floor. After completion of the main course I noticed another bug and squished it with my napkin, on closer inspection there were tens of these bugs under the rail half way up the window. At which time we decided it was time to leave without a desert course and on finally getting our waiters attention we requested the bill and complained about the bugs crawling up the window and that we would like to leave as soon as possible. His response was to take payment from us standing at the bar, leaving us with the full bill while he went off to server other tables.

We promptly left and went to the (bug free) Ice cream parlour for desert.

“lovely space/ better food than most restaurants in Kihei”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2014

Cafe O'Lei had better choices, prices, and atmosphere than most places in Kihei. We arrived at 3:40 for lunch and the kitchen actually closes from 3:30-4:30 which is kind of a bummer...there must be a reason why they do this because otherwise, I miss the point of why it's important. So during this hour, you can sit at the bar which is actually fun and it's comfortable. The "skinny pina" which is a pina colada made with coconut water instead of coconut milk is simply amazing. The food was okay. Certain dishes were great, others just so-so. I loved the crispy chicken dish but the ahi tuna wasn't all that fresh. Still, it's worth a try...if not just for the cocktails and the lovely space...the food is better than the vast majority of restaurants in Kihei.
