“Expensive ugly high rise in great location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2014

We stayed in a private condo in the Mana Kai which was spacious, well furnished and comfortable for our needs. The location was right by the ocean and there were water sports facilities in the hotel which was convenient. There are also 2 very nice restaurants within walking distance.

Our disappointment lay in the ugly multi story high rise that this condo was built in that ruined the landscape of the area. We stayed 3 nights which was more than enough. Condos were being renovated which was noisy and the feel of the building reminded me of something on the costa del sol in the eighties. On another note our room was key pad locked and as we were taking our luggage to the car (far away since we had to trek through building) the door locked out on us. The owner had clearly set a timer for exactly 11am check out and as we were slightly over we then had to wait for security to let us back into collect the remaining bags.

This was the most expensive accommodation we stayed at on 3 Islands and the most disappointing. Would not go back. The vibe of the place did not suit us at all.

Aloha, Thank you for taking your time to write a review. Built in the early 70's it's design is that of a condominium, vacation rental property. Of course our building design may not please all, but at it's time of design and construction, we of course are not sure of any other designs that would be more environmentally accepted for today's mindset. I am sorry if we did not meet your expectations in this area. Properties located beachfront anywhere are always going to have higher rates, and as you say, our location can't be beat.

We stayed at the Mana Kai in May, and it was the best place we could have stayed at. We stayed in one of the condos which offers a full kitchen, a sizeable balcony (where we at breakfast/lunch almost every day), and a beautiful view of the ocean and the beach (although, I think every suite has a great view).

Suites have lots of space and are clean. Maid service is offered every day (like a hotel!), and they offer towel service as well (like a hotel!). The 5 Palms restaurant is a great restaurant with amazing views of the sunset. The beach (which is right at your doorstep) is fantastic; not too packed, and nice and big.

The location of the hotel is great. Kihei is central to all of Maui, and the hotel is located right at the border of Kihei and Wailea.

Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone, and will gladly stay there again when we return to Maui!

Room Tip: 4th floor and higher gives the best view of the water

This was our first time to Maui and we couldn't have picked a better location. We were shocked to find that the hotel was even better than we imagined and the views were amazing. Simply a wonderful place and very well maintained. We stayed in #209A and the unit right above us was being renovated and it was no big deal the noise was very minimal, we spent most of our time on the beach anyways. Its nice to see that they remodel as needed and take care of the hotel as well as they do. The Unit was very well stocked and had everything we needed. The staff was very friendly and we appreciated how welcomed we were made to feel. The restaurant/Bar - 5 Palms was very nice and we loved the Happy Hour. Thank you to the Staff at the Mana Kai for helping make this a memorable vacation for us. We are already making plans for next years visit.

Room Tip: I would recommend spending the money to have a room with the Lanai - worth the extra money.

Mahalo for writing a good review and agree the oceanside unit with a lanai is what you come to Hawaii for. Hope to see you next year.

This is my second time staying here in the past 6 months. I was surprised to find a brand new remodeled condo. It is beautiful! Love the ocean view. The room is spacious with a large lanai. Great restaurant at the edge of the beach as well.

Room Tip: All rooms have an equally great ocean view.

We have stayed here 18+ times in the last 25 years. In those early days the 2 bed, 2 bath condo cost $195/night, included a rental car and free breakfast. Our cost this year, 3 weeks ago, was $360/night for a 1 bed, 1 bath, no car or breakfast. Times have changed, so have the costs, but it is still the best condo in Maui. We were disappointed in 2013 when we were assigned rm 715A. This room is at the end away from the ocean. Complaining did not help. This year we got rm 603A. We are returning next year, $400+/night. Prices are less when the whales are gone and the weather is hot.

Room Tip: Rooms on the ocean side of the central elevator have the best views. Higher floors, 8 total, have th...

Aloha, thank you for your loyalty and all the return visits. As you know, the units closest to the ocean (usually 01 through 05 stacks) are under our premium category. All of our units including all the way down to the 15 stack have good ocean view. Unfortunately prices do increase every year as does the cost of operations. The restaurant is leased to another operator making an all inclusive package difficult to put together for us. We are working on a loyalty program to benefit long time returnees such as yourself.

Our room seemed to have been recently renovated. In fact much of the hotel seemed to be freshly renovated or undergoing renovations. The construction noise would be my only complaint with our stay, the staff was very friendly and the place was clean. I would highly recommend the Mana Kai.

Aloha, Thank you for taking your time to write a review. It's unfortunate that we had renovation construction noise during your stay, but in order for guests to return, renovations are a necessary part of keeping a 41 year old building operating and looking fresh. We look forward to your next visit with us.

Just stayed at the Mana Kai in Maui. The resort is immaculate. It was truly one of the best vacations we have ever had. We booked directly with the owner, great condo. The view is out of this world. The restaurant has the best happy hour every day and the deli was very convenient. We will definitely go back again to Mana Kai 314.

Room Tip: Stayed in unit 314. Will definitely be going back. We used vrbo

Mahalo for your review as it helps all the rental programs and the property. I hope the owner of the unit you rented from sees your comments, as this unit is not in our rental program. We are the on-site rental program that has opened a TripAdvisor account and AAA 3-diamond units.
