I highly recomend this resort! I want to thank the staff for going out of their way for me. They are a very nice staff and made me feel welcome. The room was beautifull , and the ocean was even more beautifull. I spent most of my vacation right in front of my room. There's alot of conveniant stores and a Denny's right across, that has friendly service . Theres enough to do there by the resort , when it comes to beach, restuarants, stores, and photo opportunities. The resort also offers plenty of on-site activities for everyone. Whether you stay there with your family or by yourself, this hotel and location is paradice! I give it 2 thumbs up!

Thank you

I've stayed at this property during the off season and loved it. However, during Christmas we decided to pick a neighbouring property for almost US$100 less per night that was bigger, had insuite laundry ,a computer, and was ground floor.

Hale Pau Hana is a lovely beachfront resort, but it is not worth US$300 per night during Christmas. Especially when most of the ground floor units won't allow children to stay there, they are quite tight, and they DO NOT have insuite laundry. For that kind of money I don't want to use their on site laundry mat.

Having done all of the research to work out where we wanted to stay on Maui, we thought, why spend all the big bucks to stay in an expensive resort, when you can stay at Hale Pau Hana for far less money, with a room directly overlooking the beach/sea..

Booking all this from the UK was easy as Cindy was so helpful.. Their own website shows pictures of all the rooms - so you know what you are getting.

With a hire car all locations were easily accessible. We went in late November so it was quiet - no queues anywhere.

Yes you can drive around the southern tip as part of the Hana road - we did it in the cheapest rental car no problems.

Thoroughly recommend Hale Pau Hana resort - great view, great location, great people....and far cheaper than the big resort hotels..

There seems to be some misconception on accomodations at the Hana Pau Hali as with most of the other condo's.

The office only handles the units that are put into the rental pool managed by the complex. Many of the other units are handled by other property owners. That is why not every unit is listed on their website. When I stayed there, I had to pick up my keys at a Real Estate Office by Safeway because I booked through Condo Rentals Hawaii.

One cannot assume they can just walk up to a condo office and request a change of rooms like you do at a hotel, unless that complex has control over some of the units.

The same holds true on the furnishings and how the units are supplied.
Property management firms have some rules, like if you want to list with them, you have to have air conditioning etc.

What I do know is that most of the really nice condo's, the ones with the tasteful furniture, DVD, stereo, fully stocked kitchens, internet access etc., are the ones handled by the owners themselves.

It pays to do your homework unless you happen to like the units in this rental pool.

Visited Hale Pau Hana the second week of Aug 2004. An excellent choice as the management and location were perfect. Check in was realitively easy. If you arrive on Sunday, you'll have to call a number listed on the building to get the code to the box to get your room key. The resort is not a hotel, but individual units owned by others. Only negative we experienced was the room adjacent to ours was being refurbished with all the noise that goes along with that. But hey, when in Maui, one doesn't stay in the room all day so it wasn't that bad. Overall I highly recommend Hale Pau Hana. The wife and I hope to return soon.

We just returned from a 5 night stay at the Hale Pau Hana, and we vowed to never stay anywhere else. All the units are huge, with a great oceanfront patio. We paid for a 1 bedroom/1 bath, and got a 1Br/2 bath, which was great. The kitchen was super, with dishwasher/garbage disposal, fully loaded with utensils and cooking gear. Awesome living room with island decor, 2 couches, cable tv, VCR, CD player, and AC plus ceiling fans. The location is excellent, with plenty of dining in town or in nearby Wailea. There is even a helpful concierge service available. We visited the huge resort hotels and knew that if we were there instead, our view would be a courtyard or parking lot rather than the spectacular views of the ocean just steps away! There is maid service M,W,F. In the kitchen, there was a small ant problem at first, but we just kept the counters clean and the food in the fridge, and didn't think twice about it. The staff is friendly, there are washers and dryers on site, and we will stay here whenever we return to Maui. Just a note--if you are arriving after 5 pm, call the front desk before your trip to have them leave your keys in the lock box--they will give you an access code. I read the review from the couple who had to drive out of their way for the keys, and I don't know what they were talking about--the keys are available at the resort.

Hale Pau Hana is a great spot for a vacation. First off, it is a small complex right on the beach. Ocean view, ocean front, beachside, are all the same at this place. We have stayed other places in Maui, and ocean view or ocean front can easily mean you are several hundred yards from the water. This is a great swimming beach, easy access, great for kids, calm waves. We have stayed at other hotels in Hawaii where you pay for ocean front only to find out that access to the beach requires climbing over coral or the surf is too strong.
Recommend this spot highly, if you want fine dining, Wailea is 5 minutes down the road.
