We had a great time in this unit. It is well equipped, great location. Just walk straight across the road to the beach. We could sit on the lanai and watch the waves roll in! Within walking distance to shops and restaurants. King size bed in master bedroom and two singles in the second bedroom. 2 sinks in each bathroom, so plenty of room in the bathrooms also. There was a CD in the unit on The Trip to Hana, which we thoroughly enjoyed as we drove it ourselves, so didn't miss any of the highlights. Would highly recommend this unit. Jeff and Mary, Canada

This was a return visit for my wife and I to Don & Terry’s Haleakala Shores ocean view condo across the street from the Kamaole 3 beach in Kihei from Sep 14th – 22nd. I wrote a significant review when we stayed here with the entire family in May of 2012 so I won’t repeat everything I wrote then. I’m happy to report we were pleased to see everything was just as great this time as the past trip and we had an equally good time. Don & Terry do a great job through their on-island manager of keeping the place well maintained, clean and stocked with virtually everything you need for a wonderful Hawaiian vacation.

As before, the key points haven’t changed. The central location within easy walking distance to great beaches, nice restaurants, the Kihei boat harbor and lots of local hopping makes a fine base camp for your daily activities. This location also makes driving to other places very easy, using the busy Kihei road for local trips or jumping up to the Pilani highway when you need to go somewhere more distant.

We spent more time this trip using the pool and great bbq facilities most evenings, cooking up fresh seafood, sometimes from the superb Eskimo Candy fish market, and other times just getting it from Safeway or Foodland, all nearby driving distance. Haleakala Shores now has 5 large grills for your use since it is a popular activity and a great way to meet both local folk and other guests from around the world. The condo comes with everything you need for use in the glass-free pool area making it an easy dinner without a lot of kitchen cleanup.

Our favorite feature of this location, the availability of very good early-morning snorkeling before breakfast hasn’t changed. Going early typically means calm clear water to snorkel with the turtles that congregate near the rocks between Kam 2 & 3 beaches. We also really liked driving south beyond Makena for early snorkeling in the crystal clear waters of Ahihi Bay with huge quantities of colorful fish, corals, turtles and the occasional dolphin. Another treat about staying here is the ability to mix your favorite beverage and walk across the street to view the gorgeous daily sunsets without getting in the car, although if that’s not your thing the sunsets and moonsets from the 4th floor Lanai are also beautiful.

As I wrote in the prior review, if you are looking for a great affordable condo for either a family or couple to stay, you simply cannot beat this one. The top floor view from the Lanai overlooking the beach, palm trees and gorgeous sunsets is perfect. I will admit it can get a little noisy at times being right on the main road but for us that is insignificant given all of the benefits of the location, the quality amenities and the value that Don & Terry provide. Overall we had a great time and will return next time we do a Maui trip.

Room Tip: Don fills this quickly so don't wait until the last minute

2nd visit at Haleakala Shores but different condo this time. We stayed @ B101. It's perfect for a family or small group of 4 to 6. It's clean & simple.

Pros:
+ Affordable & Spacious
+ Close proximity to beach/shopping
+ Fits 4-6 with King, Queen (sofa pull out), Full & Twin bed
+ A bunch of Maui Tour books & CDs available for your trip (please return it!)
+ Extra coolers, beach towels and mats available for your outings
+ Washer/Dryer (very small..so only small loads)

Cons:
+ Remember to register your car (Fill out a simple form) or risk being towed!
+ Quiet time: 10pm to 7am = No A/C for those times (bummer for most!)
+ You have to take the trash out

This time around the Manager or Person in charge was "keeping" an eye on my group. He lectured me about the pool rules the second I check-in?!?! We didn't even plan to use the pool (hello...the beach is across the street!). He kept his watchful eye on us throughout all 4-5 days! Creepy? He probably thought we were some party/college kids... I actually came to Maui to get married!

Bottom line: We saved a lot of $ on the condo so we could treat ourselves to a Spa visit and expensive activities.

This one depends on what you're looking for. It's on the top floor, has a very open design and nice view of the ocean from the Lanai. The rental fee is reasonable. The kitchen is well equipped, the bathrooms are huge and there are tons of stuff in the closets for the beach. Kam III beach and park is virtually across the street. This is a nice beach for young families, picnics and sunbathing. The condo is advertised as a 2-bedroom, but it is really a one bedroom plus a large living room that can be partioned into a separate sleeping area. Fine for families with children, but not so good for a second couple wanting privacy. There are few curtains in the living room so it gets light early. We rented from Maui Vacation Reservations. The air conditioner in the master bedroom wasn't working so we called and asked if it could be fixed. A repair person came out the 5th of our 13 days of rent. He wrote down the equipmente info and said he'd come back. He never did. My wife has shoulder pain and it is difficult for her to get comfortable so not having air conditioning in July was not good. We actually left with 3 days still on our contract to find another place where she could sleep. We also mentioned the roaches in the kitchen when we called about the air conditioner. Although we weren't bent too out of shape since roaches are not unexpected in Hawaii we were disappointed nothing was done. Half of the residents at this condo are permanent so don't expect to socialize with others at the pool and bar-b-que areas. Anyway, this place didn't work for us, but can for you. If you're coming to Maui to see the whales in the spring I think this place will work and if you are single or a couple looking for extra space this condo should be fine.

Room Tip: Take time to read some of the great books about Hawaii left in the condo and be sure to hike the tra...

My husband and 5-year-old son and I just returned from a 10-day stay at this lovely condo. This was our 2nd stay in A-402, and we most definitely plan to return (I've already checked their calendar for Summer of 2014)! The owner handles all of the pre-arrival arrangements, and everything (from payments, to driving directions, to condo access) runs as smooth as silk. The condo is bright, clean, and has everything you'd want: high, vaulted ceilings, gorgeous ocean-front views, a private lanai (balcony). There's a super-comfortable King bed, 2 very nice twin beds (which we pushed together to make one BIG bed for our son), 2 bathrooms, and sliding shoji screen doors for privacy (separating the living room/kitchen area from the twin beds-2nd bathroom area). The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need; we made breakfasts almost daily and enjoyed them together on the lanai. There's a lovely pool and surrounding area, with BBQs and tables for all to use. Kam III beach, directly across the street, was great for swimming and sand-castle making. You can walk to restaurants and small shops (many afternoons we ate at Moose's or Fred's), drive less than 10 minutes to get to a large grocery store and bigger shops (Safeway, Hilo Hattie, etc.), or take a quick 45-minute trip North to Lahaina where food and shopping options abound (also "Baby Beach" just North of Front Street, is great for very small kids or those not comfortable in the surf; it's a protected cove with waist-level water and no waves, and great for practice snorkeling!) A 10-minute drive South of Kihei will get you to the lovely resort area of Wailea (we spent a number of afternoons at Wailea Beach, and twice enjoyed a fabulous -- and kid-friendly -- happy hour at Nick's Fishmarket at the Wailea Fairmont) All in all a wonderful vacation, in a lovely locale. W highly recommend this condo to Maui vacationers, and can't wait to return! L, D, & E

You will have a hard time staying anywhere else once you stay in A 402. You can just tell the owner loves Maui and wants you to love it too. When you enter you feel like you stepped into a Hawaiian paradise with high vaulted ceilings covered in bamboo. The room is decorated with quality furniture and accessories that just smile with island charm. Its gets even better as you realize that the whole place faces out to the beach & park directly across the street.

This is a top floor unit with a corner balcony with both a lanai and Ocean view. The condo itself is large and spacious with 2 bedrooms & 2 baths and is equipped with the every beach essential like 6 chairs, umbrella, mats, sand toys, beach towels and even a cooler. I like to cook and the kitchen made me happy with everything you need in great shape and sparkling clean.

The king size bed in the master was very comfortable and just off the balcony. The second bedroom had two twin beds that could be pushed together if you needed. And everybody gets an ocean view and an ocean breeze at night.

I have stayed here on multiple occasions and will be coming back again and again. The owners are great to deal with and go the extra mile. They take pride in this unit and it shows in every detail. For us this makes it a great value.

This is really more than a place to stay. It is a place to live the Hawaiian life in the most pleasant and relaxing way Imaginable.

Room Tip: A 402 is the top floor corner unit directly across from the beach. High ceilings, great views and o...

Haleakala Shores is a great location in Kihei, right across the street from Kamaole III beach. I really liked that we were able to walk to different places around Kihei when we didn’t feel like driving. Since this complex is smaller no matter where you stay in the building it is a short walk to the beach and Kihei Rd. We noticed that some of the other complexes sit far back from the street so it would be a little longer walk just getting out of the complex. We stayed in unit A402 which was at the front of the building. We really liked that we could sit on our lanai and see the ocean. The unit was spacious, clean and comfortable. It was plenty big for us as a couple, and can see it would still be comfortable for four people. The condo was stocked with everything we needed as far as kitchen appliances, beach towels, etc. It was a nice touch to get the coffee and macadamia candy as a welcome. The bed in the master bedroom was comfortable. The down side for me was at times the street noise was a little loud, but sometimes I am a light sleeper. Overall we really enjoyed our time here and would definitely recommend it to others. The owner Don was very friendly and easy to work with and welcomed our calls and questions anytime.
