Very nice resort, beach just across the street and enough parking spaces at the resort. We had a nice studio with two bathrooms, separate bedroom and a very well equiped kitchen. The highlight was the absolutely and always friendly receptionists. On our last day we checked out but our flight was only in the late evening. We asked the receptionist if we could leave our luggage at the reception and told them that we will go to the beach until we have to leave. They offered us that we can "rent" a special room for free after we come from beach where we can have a shower and change clothes. But after a look into their system they saw that our studio, where we just checked out, is not directly reserved again and offered us to go back to our studio and take our time to refresh ourselfes. We could left our luggage there, taking a shower and had nothing to pay extra therefor - very, very lovely and helpful!

Since majority of your hotel choices in Kihei are steps away from the beach and you have a rental car anyway, I think your choice should mostly depend on price. The Aston is not in the best location for food, fuel and groceries, but if your budget is tight, I suggest waiting for a really good deal for a room here. The rooms are clean, the staff are friendly, and at $60/pp/day you shouldn't look anywhere else. And if you're looking for a serene, semi-secluded beach, Kihei Beach #2 is for you.

We stayed here on our first night in maui and thought the location was great, the studio room a good size and the amenities pretty good. Accomodation on Maui is expensive but this place seemed very good value for money.
A few days later and we'd left accomodation for our last night on maui to the last minute. We ended up booking at the Days Inn in Kihei, but turned up to find a shoe boxed sized, weirdly smelling little room with the wifi not working. To cut a longish story short, we left, and came back to the banyan, who upgraded us to a one bedroom suite, for the same price as our first night, and didn't charge the resort fee of $18 again. The receptionist was so helpful and the room was great, very luxurious, clean and spacious. Would def recommend this hotel!!

We recently spent 7 nights in Kihei at the Aston Maui Banyan. Like most moderately priced places to stay it has its good and bad points.

The Good

Location, Location, Location - The Banyan is directly across the street from one of the nicest beaches on Maui. You will be hard pressed to find a better beach for taking in a sunset and it is never really too crowded. The waves in March were not too bad but not too small to discourage some fun in the water. The Banyan is also within easy walking distance of plenty of quaint little restaurants and shops.

The Staff - In our week at the Banyan I recall only ever running into one slightly cranky front desk member. All of the other girls at the front desk were fantastic and even the random wandering staff member doing gardening or cleaning the pool was always friendly.

The Pools - The two pool areas at the Banyan are equipped with BBQ's for the guests to use and we took full advantage almost every night of our stay with a good BBQ dinner. The pools themselves are a little on the small side (don't let the photos fool you) but they are kept very clean. The pool areas are where you can go to meet other guests and have a drink or two while the kids swim.

Parking - There is a lot of parking available in both the parking structure and the lot further north.

The Bad

Our room - I believe all of the units at the Banyan are privately owned so there is going to be a big difference if you compare some similar units. We saw some nicely refurbished units with beautiful furnishings and floors but sadly we did not get one of those. We we "upgraded" to unit Q406 as it has a partial ocean view, which means you have to lean off the balcony and look to your far left to see the water. Our unit did not appear to have been upgraded or renovated for a number of years.

* The carpet is well worn (not too bad but not what I would call nice)
* The taps on all the sinks are at least 20 years old and impossible for the cleaning crew to get really clean.
* The tub and stand up shower are both older and impossible to get spotless after years of sandy showers.
* The appliances in the kitchen are old fashioned and some did not quite work right (our fridge worked but barely kept things cold on the highest setting).
* The door to our unit looked like it had been broken into in the past, although it could just be damage from them re-doing the locks on the doors.

Don't get me wrong, there were some nice features... the beds were comfy and clean (including the hide-a-bed) and the couch, chairs and bar stools were newer and of nice quality.

The buildings - The buildings themselves are showing their age. There is a lot of damage on the walls in the hallways and a number of dead bugs as well. We had friends staying above us in building T I believe. This building has no elevator and the stairs are falling apart to the point that duct tape has been used to repair them.

We just came back from spending the week of March 11-18 at the Maui Banyan. We booked this through our travel agent. When we arrived, our condo was located in building T210, so we were at the very top of the resort. My initial reaction when we entered our room, was oh my this is dated......but after getting past that, the place was perfect. It was clean, had lots of room. We had a two bedroom with one queen bed in the master and two double beds in the second bedroom. We had two full bathrooms, plus laundry, a livingroom and a dining room. Lots of room for my husband and I and our kids aged 12 & 15. Each room had an air conditioner and also a ceiling fan which kept it nice and cool. The complex has two pools and everyday that we were there, my daughter had the pool to herself. Everyone else was sun tanning and would maybe take a quick dip to cool off and then get out. There were lots of lounge chairs and we never had a problem getting one, no matter what time of the day we went down. The location of the Maui Banyan is perfect, it's right across from Beach #2, just a short walk. Down the street a few blocks were shops and restaurants and Foodland where we got our groceries from. We loved the free DVD rentals, as we did this every night after our long days at the beach or pool. My daughter also went down to see if they had some beach toys (shovel & bucket) and they did, they lent it to us for our stay, which was great because you hate to buy all this stuff and then have to leave it. The complex is so quiet. There was a good mix of people from younger with families to older with no kids. We met lots of nice people around the pool. They also have 5 BBQ's around each pool, we did not get to use these as it was so windy the week we were here, we decided it would be easier to just cook in our room. Also my daughter was wanting to get her hair braided while we were in Maui, so if your looking to do that, go and see Patrick Hakola at Great Styles and Cuts, at Long's Centre on S.Kihei Rd. he was so great. We loved that from this location, you could basically drive to most places within 20-30 minutes and get to see a lot of stuff. We saw so many whales from the beach and also two large turtles swam by too. Even when the beach was busy, there was still enough room for everyone, you never felt crowded. Can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: We loved T210, even though it's at the top of the complex, it's still only a 5 minute walk t...

My boyfriend and I stayed at Maui Banyan on our trip. I booked a Deluxe 1 bedroom through expedia. On their website it states that the deluxe rooms are updated. When we arrived our condo was only updated as far as the kitchen countertops and sink. Other than that it was 70s style everything and ugly carpets. My boyfriend was not happy at all! So we went down to the counter (this is at about midnight) and the gal said she could get us into a better room the following day. So we spent the night in the room and transferred over the next day. The room we ended up getting was fabulous. Updated everything.. the showers were the best! Even the lanai was bigger, there was a table and chairs out there. There is a tv in the living room and in the bedroom. There was a small discrepancy about us having to pay a fee for this upgraded room but after talking to the manager she ended up waiving it. Thank you so much Maui Banyan Staff!
We rented snorkels and a boogie board (we had one boogie board provided in the room, thank you H413 folks) and Irene was fantastic at the rentals desk. She was so friendly and helped us out a lot. You could tell she just really wanted us to have a nice vacation.
I think all the rooms are privately owned so you dont really know what your in for until you get there, but we were very happy with the way it worked out for us.

While your staying in Kihei, make sure you check out snorkeling at Ahihi reserve, book a trip for molokini snorkeling (we went with seafire charters), shopping at shops at wailea, big beach and little beach, authentic tiki carving vendors just before big beach on the left, breakfast at 808 bistro, freds mexican cafe for dinner!

Room Tip: Try to get a room that faces south (north is the parking lot). H 413 was great.
