The Kula botanical gardens said they had over 90 varieties of protea flowers there, and they didn't disappoint. So many different varieties of the rare and amazing flower. Definitely go!

I enjoyed walking throughout the entire garden area. The drive itself from Lahaina area was long but view going up mountain was enjoyable for me. The front person was very personable, nice and answered my question about the garden. Walking through the Garden can be easily done in 30 min if you are walking through peeking or can take up to 2 hours if you are fascinated by the plants. I did see many photographers coming in -- camera equipment packed (tripods, multiple lenses) -- if you are into taking pictures of still life this is the place to capture some great photos. The walk is very peaceful. Go early in the morning before people start to get there to maximize the peaceful serenity you will get.

We found Kula Botanical Garden to be our favorite garden in Maui ( so far). We have been to 4 others and found this one to seem the most natural without looking unkept and wild. There were lots of local plants, bushes and trees including the "painted trees" you see on the road to Hana. We enjoyed the wildlife as well ( chameleon, doves, duck and goose). The garden is laid out weel, just keep taking trails to the left as you hike up, and back down.

I can't tel, you how much we enjoyed this place, it was a beautiful drive to get to it. Upcountry.with scenic vistas most of the way. As it is higher up it las lovely and cool. The gardens are well marked and accessible for wheelchairs. You walk up a slightly graded path to the top and then walk down. Well marked plants and beautiful flowers,
There is a nice gift shop with reasonably priced local goods. The shop clerk, Kathy has worked there a long time and was very friendly. Clean restrooms!

We arrived about an hour before closing, but had lots of time to see most of this botanical garden. My wife, 63, and mom, 85, both were able to easily view the grounds. We met a young gentleman on an ATV who also was able to discuss in detail with both avid gardeners and exchanged tips. Interesting display of proteas and hydrangeas. Definitely worth the admission!
