My family of four just spent 5 nights at this resort for our first Hawaii family vacation and we'd gladly go back!

I had some trepidation after reading some other reviews so wanted to post a quick write-up letting other TAers know that the Hyatt Maui was a dream vacation spot, even with our discounted room overlooking the construction! I posted pics so you can see for yourself.

The kids loved the pool and played happily there every day, we walked about 5 minutes up the beach toward Whaler's Village and swam in the ocean in front of the Westin to avoid the rocks and the water there was delightful. It's not a big deal to not swim directly in front of the Hyatt.

The Hyatt staff went out of their way to make us feel important and took phenomenal care of us from valet (jeremy) to front desk (momi and danica) to most of the wait staff. We ate poolside, at Umalu and Japengo multiple times. The only reason the Hyatt lost a star in this review is their pool server Rhoda (or maybe Rhonda) was quite rude. We closed out our check with her after two poolside orders and went directly to Umalu ourselves the rest of that day rather than continue to order from her. The other poolside servers on other days (Caroline and Victoria/Veronica) were a delight as was just about everyone else we encountered throughout our stay.

There was plenty of shaded lounge seating by the pool (and this week was sold out!) but we are early risers so that may have helped. We were in bed many nights by 8:30 pm (hey, we have kids!) and up most mornings around 7ish. The best shade -- solid through 2 or 3 pm -- is the row of loungers along the rock wall on your right hand side when facing the kids pool. Nobody was ridiculous about pool towel cards as some other TAers complained, every exchange was simple and painfree. We swam some mornings, then went to Swam Court for breakfast and returned to our seats shortly thereafter. One of those mornings there was a note waiting for us, but I don't think that's a bad practice because if we weren't returning in a reasonable period of time, then someone else should be able to enjoy our chairs. The note said our stuff would be removed at 10 am (an hour after the initial warning note was served) and held at the pool station if we were gone over an hour, but we made it back in time.

We saw humpback whales from the poolside chairs every single day! Too many to count, some were just flippers and tails but quite a few full breach and giant splashes as well. No whale tours needed!

We ate at Leilani's twice -- go for the hula pie and the fish tacos, amazing with extra guac and jalapenos if you like a kick. We were impressed by the live singers at Japengo as well as the happy hour food, we made those pupus our dinner twice and it was a steal and delicious.

Go and have fun, aloha! Wish we could go back right now!

Just returned from a week at the Hyatt Regency Maui. My wife and I have a perfectly relaxing and delightful week at the Maui Resort. The rooms were clean, the ocean views from our balcony were superb. We spent hours watching hump back whales frolic in the channel without even leaving our room. Meals at Japengo and Umalu, on site, were tasty and fairly priced. When we wanted to get off property to dine and shop, a 10 minute stroll down to Whaler's Village provided us with additional restaurant choices and nice shopping. The hotel is a five minute drive from Lahaina, which is filled with high end galleries, dining experiences, and stores. The hotel staff was courteous and attentive. The meeting facilities were excellent. I look forward to returning.

Room Tip: Ocean views are definitely recommended.

My husband and I just returned from 10 nights at the Hyatt. Our first room was not what we booked and were switched the next day (one day wasted).
I agree with other reviews the rooms are outdated, bathrooms very small with no ventilation so very humid after showering which is the reason the doors are de-laminating.
The beds only have a mattress, no box spring and are on a wood platform which very close to the floor, good if you are very short or a child. Also the fridge does not get cold enough so don't keep anything perishable in it.
The TV's are not high definition the ceiling, carpet, furniture and walls all look dirty and tired. The balcony chairs were very comfortable though with mesh and aluminum type patio furniture. People still smoke on the balconies but security is on them quickly. Hawaii state law and you will be fined! We had breakfast included each day. The swan court is still a beautiful setting but the wicker aluminum chairs are fighting with the classic ambiance of the setting. The breakfast was just okay (nowhere close as good as it used to be). The staff though was very friendly.
Now for the common areas, now for anyone who remembers when the Hyatt used to be "the place" they loved all the beautiful common areas to sit and admire the grounds or artwork or to enjoy a drink in the open air and read a book. Well all the common area by the Napilli tower is gone and is now timeshare sales rooms and information for their new property next door. There were 4 chairs over by the Lahaina tower but hey that's about it. The only common area to sit now is down by the pools. Which leads me to say they are beautiful but by 7 am the loungers are all toweled by invisible swimmers so good luck with getting a lounger! The pools are way too impacted for the number of guests in the hotel. You are crammed in there like sardines.
The last few days before we left the hotel was over run by Monsanto (the GMO people) under the guise of WinField for a convention. The pool was really impacted during the day with so many people in it drinking and partying right in the pool...so swimming was not easy...the pool only has a few ladders to get into it and the tile is very slippery getting in where there is no ladder, be careful.
The beach in front of the Hyatt is pretty poor it is eroding at a rapid rate so if you want to swim in the sea just walk down to in front of the Marriott it is very lovely there.
The services at this hotel seem very limited and everything is way over priced....I think $12-$14 plus a tip for a drink by the pool is a bit much.
Remember when you check out you will be charged the $30 resort fee and $14 for self park per day.
This hotel is not good value for the money anymore in my opinion and we have been staying on Kaanapali for more than 20 years.
The hotel is fighting between its classic roots and modern so from a design point of view the elements are fighting with each other and you don't get that warm sophisticated feeling you used to get from this property. It is now all about the corporation and not the guest...we had a lovely vacation and we will return to Maui but probably not this property, too bad.

Room Tip: Napilli tower around the middle facing the landscaping and pool with ocean views are all a good loca...

The Hyatt was our last hotel on a 3 island Collette Vacation and the best of the hotels including the Kawaii Sheraton (Good) and the Marriott Ouaho (well located and good breakfast). The Hyatt is high end. The grounds and pools are fabulous and self-contained. It is located on a less crowded spot on Fabulous Kaanapali Beach about a 20 minute walk to Whaler's village, which is a good thing. A good place to eat a reasonable meal is at the outdoor restaurant in front of the Westin right beside Whaler's Village which is too crowded and has line-ups. Hyatt has good shopping and nice, spacious rooms. I would love to take my whole family back to the Hyatt for a week.

Room Tip: Ask for Beach view, but not right on the beach for a savings because the view is still good. Resort...

This hotel is in a very good location with plenty of stuff to do near by. We have stayed here several times and it is my favorite. You have shopping in the hotel and just down the beach. The shopping center is just a 30 minute walk, but it has a walking path along the beach. Talk about some beautiful sunsets from this location. They have a wonderful Luau also. It is close to Lahaina where you have plenty of shopping and restaurants.

We stayed with a huge group that rented out the entire hotel! It was amazing! Our room was beautiful and overlooked the ocean! The staff was wonderful! Can not imagine what it takes to put together such large banquets for our group but you guys out did yourselves!!! We especially loved the night that all the food trucks came, and the Fire & Ice party!! The food and service was some of the best i've experienced:)!! The only complaint the whole time we were there is that the drinks were a little spendy, but we expected that. We enjoyed lounging by the pool and out by the ocean! Would definitely come back again! Thank you for being such amazing hosts!

This is what we had always imagined that Hawaii would be like. The hotel sits among lush foliage, and there is a small lagoon with geese and swans. The restaurant faces the lagoon, which also includes a waterfall. The rooms are very large, and the service is excellent.
