“Terrible stay, elevator noise, broken railings”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 October 2013

I stayed here for vacation and found the hotel to be in dire need of an upgrade or gutting. Railings on upper floors were broken and leaning over the edge, especially 3rd floor lahaina wing. My wife and I were awakened all night long by noise from the elevator that was all the way down the hall. The hotel also charges extra for almost everything eg. Parking, chairs for beach, room safe. We won't be back

My husband and I just returned from KBH. We travel to Hawaii often. This was our first time to stay at Ka'anapali Beach and it won't be our last. We loved the location, the beach, and the service.

The hotel is within walking distance to tons of places to eat and Whalers Village to shop.

The hotel has beautiful beach access and is close to black rock, some of the best snorkeling in Maui. Black Rock is in front of the Sheaton. Many people walked to Black Rock and itmseemed crowded. Glad we were one hotel over. We could see it, but not have the crowds. Every hotel on Ka'anapali Beach requires rentals of beach loungers and KBH is no different. We rented a cabana for the week and loved every minute on the beach. The cabana was set up each morning by 8:00 am. If you did not want to rent loungers for the beach, there were many loungers all over the resort.

We stayed in room 385. It's an ocean front room that had been recently renovated. The room was updated nicely. I love hearing the waves when I wake in the morning and this room did not disappoint.

The Tiki Bar and Grill on the grounds of KBH had AWESOME drinks. Order the Lava Flow! You'll be glad you did. Say hi the Dale for me. He is super cool! We ate at the Tiki Grill for lunch a couple of days. Others, we walked to the Hula Grill and Duke's.

Parking was $10 per night or $12 for valet. Most other hotels we've stayed at in Maui charge $15 -$17 for parking. So overall, the parking cost was fine. We chose valet. The bell boys were quick and friendly. They always asked where were going and if we had fun on our return.

A strange thing was the $1.50 per night for the safe. Weird, but we paid it. No big deal.

The hotel offers late check out. Great, when you are leaving at 9:30 pm!

We loved the hotel and highly recommend it.

Returning to the KBH 3 years after our first visit quickly reaffirmed that we made the right decision again. As other reviewers have indicated, the KBH is not the most modern or fanciest resort in the desired Ka'anapali area on Maui's west coast, but it certainly provides the relaxing atmosphere in a convenient location that many look for in a vacation spot.

As we sit on our 3rd floor ocean front lanai (balcony) in the Molokai Building, we're 20 steps from the beach and another 100 steps to the blue Pacific. To our front left looms the island of Lanai, and to its right Molokai. A couple hundred yards to the right of our building is Black Rock, with some of the best snorkeling in the area. If we take the convenient sidewalk that's 10 steps from our building's entrance that traverses the entire length of the Ka'anapali resort area, and walk to the left about 5 minutes, we arrive at Whaler's Village, an outside facility with about 60 shops and at least 3 good sized restaurant along with several fast food places.

Of course, the KBH also has its own restaurant, the Tiki Terrace, that offers a good breakfast and dinner with a good variety of selections on the menu. We also frequent its Tiki Bar, a small but resort-friendly place serving super Pina Coladas and Lava Flow drinks. We can also enjoy a burger, sandwich or other faster food from the Tiki Grill, across the sidewalk from the Tiki Bar. The Grill is a popular eatery to order food and drinks from the friendly servers during KBH's free nightly Hawaiian music and hula show held under the clear Hawaii night sky.

Our complimentary kakua nut lei's from the KBH had a lighter color nut added to it during this visit to signify our 2nd stay at the resort. We look forward to adding more to our lei's in the coming years.

Despite the accolades above, we had to ding one point off our rating to reflect (1) the lack of free wireless service to all outside areas and within all buildings at the KBH, and (2) the undersized shower/toilet room in the Molokai Building.

I spent a week at KBH for a brief vacation. I had a ground floor room with a garden and pool view.
I found the room to be large, clean and comfortable although the bath, shower and TV were old-style. The staff were exceptionally helpful and the gardens were a delight. The best feature of the hotel is its location; a short walk to the beach, Black Rock diving area and Whaler's Village shopping. I would definitely return on my next visit to Maui.

I saw a rating of 3 stars and was a bit hesitant after the same rating on Oahu that was horrible. It turns out that is resort should be a 4.5 rating! They were able to give us a room in their building with an elevator that was wonderful. We ended up having an ocean view. Their pool looked nice but we did not use it with the beach right there. I would recommend renting a cabana. They are only $21 for 4 hours and it is money well spent. They gave us up to four towels upon request for the beach at no charge. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The staff is outstanding and very friendly. The restaurant had very good food with some authentic Hawaiian food. The hotel is located on a very good part of the beach. They have free entertainment every night. Having arrived on a Saturday, we were able to see a fantastic free show with many dancers, singers and musicians. I would definitely recommend this resort to all. They have demonstrations in the lobby on a daily basis. Also, they bring in local artists every morning for your convenience. I found some well made bags and jewelry at a reasonable price. They offered a small service that we found quite helpful: We could check in with our airlines by eticket and print out our boarding passes with no extra charge. They have a good-bye ceremony in which they sing a Hawaiian song and present each person with a Kukui Lei. They ask that you bring it back and will add a white nut for each visit. I found this a wonderful touch to end a fantastic visit. This resort is highly recommended by me!!!

Room Tip: Rooms in the building with elevators is helpful if you have any health problems.

Kimberly at the reception didn’t have much problem in giving us the room we asked for, while the girl before her had extreme difficulties with it. I guess the old saying „where there’s a will there’s a way” was clearly evident here. The hotel is situated on the best beach on the island of Maui, Ka’anapali Beach. The beach is about a mile long with white sand and a paved walk along the entire stretch. It is also the place of the famous snorkeling area – Black Rock. It is also a favorite diving place. Maui is a beautiful green Island and Lahaina, the first capital of Hawaii, is a must-visit. To bad our trip was during U.S. government shut down of national parks including the inactive volcano crater on Maui.
As far as the hotel, It’s hard to ask for a better location. It has has everything one may desire. Everything axcept paid room internet which is capricious and unreliable. Also, the reception staff should all be helpful and smiley just like Kimberly and Michelle.
Will visit again for sure.

Room Tip: as always, the higher, the better

My wife and I spent a week at KBH for our 25th Anniversary. This was a great location, value, customer service, and Aloha Spirit. The staff was just so very courteous and they made you feel like you were part of their family. The rooms were clean and had plenty of room. You are so close to the beach and Whaler's Village, just a few minutes walk. We rented snorkel gear and snorkeled at Black Rock, which is right down the beach. We visited several other resorts/hotels while we were there, but most did not compare to the immaculate grounds of the KBH. We would not hesitate to go there again. On the day you leave they have a lei ceremony and present each guest with a hand made lei from nuts on the property.

Room Tip: The Aloha value room is a good deal, just ask to be put in a newer renovated section of the hotel.
