Our lanai overlooked the Banyan tree, where hundreds of birds come to nest for the night by twos in the evening. The two nights we were there, live bands played, so we just sat on our shared lanai and enjoyed the show. The hotel is over 100 years old, so don't expect anything ultra-modern. The rooms were a bit small but very comfortable, with a/c and a great flat screen tv. The staff was helpful and friendly. An outdoor mall with restaurants and a movie theater is directly across the street.

The location is also convenient for heading out on excursions, because it is right at the wharf. Lahaina town is charming, with lots of different stores, ice cream parlors (Ono Gelato!), and restaurants. Lots of nightlife, but most stores close around 9:30. If you want to really check out Lahaina, you should stay at this hotel!

Really neat historic old building. Rooms are average for a place that's lasted this long, but they're comfortable and clean. Had a great view from our lanai of the banyan tree and the harbor, really enjoyed the birds every morning and evening. Convenient and close to Front St where all the action is, yet we didn't notice it at night. Fun place to sit outside and people watch over that morning coffee as the town wakes up, or later in the day over a beer as the evening heats up.

Room Tip: Ask for a room across from the banyan tree for great views. If you need quiet, then poolside (courty...

This motel has one of the best locations in Hawaii. Right on Front St., the main drag in Lahaina, it is in the middle of the Old Lahaina shopping area and surrounded by restaurants and shops selling everything from hand made Hawaiian souvenirs, to top shelf designer clothes, to tours and fishing trips and everything else in between. It's a really fun location with lots of night life going on and has a bar and restaurant on the first floor.
The motel is over 100 years old and is a National Historic site so not much can be done to update the place or perform major remodeling on the building, so it is old and dated, but very clean, and everything works fine. All the rooms are on the second floor and there is no elevator and the halls are narrow, so it is hard to drag your luggage up a narrow starway, but it's worth it if you can do that. The place has a small pool and seating area in a courtyard but with the ocean 100 ft. away, who swims in a pool.
This is a great place to spend a night or two to really get the feeling of Hawaii.
I would have rated the place a 5 except for the no elevator factor.

Room Tip: If you want to overlook the busiest street in Lahaina, ask for a streetfront room and you can watch...

First, I want to say that we booked through Best Western for our room. It was confirmed via internet, but when we got there, they said our reservation had been made for the following night. I abruptly presented my printed confirmation and they managed to offer us the manager's emergency room for the night. We were exhausted after being in airports for 14 long hours. The room was so hot and stuffy. We thought "no problem, we'll sit on the balcony till it cools off from the window air". This room did not have windows that could be opened and no door to the balcony from our room (most of them do tho). There was no other room available to us. When I contacted Best Western about this disasterous start to our long awaited and anticipated vacation, they only said they were sorry and did nothing to try to redeem themselves for such a ghastly mistake. Hence, I will never deal with Best Western again!

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a room with a door to the balcony so that you can sit outside in the cool night a...

We always start our Hawaii vacation in lovely Lahaina at the Pioneer Inn. The facility is old and historical and just perfect for enjoying people watching. The Banyan Tree outside your window fills with birds each night and every morning you are aroused to their serenade as they leave for the days journey. The facility is quaint, centrally located so that you can walk to all of the shops and activities on Front street and most importantly you can enjoy a wonderful Mai Tai at Kimo's and never have to worry about driving. Spend at least one night in town next time you are on Maui you will really enjoy the time spent just sitting on your deck watching the people go by.

Room Tip: Pick a room that faces Front Street or the Banyan Tree. That's were you will get the best exper...

When originally booking our vacation between Maui and Kauai there were 2 days spare to fill between getting the 2 timeshare weeks, so I looked for Best westerns in either of the 2 Islands and chose this hotel, as I have a large number of points through staying in Best Western hotels often with my job.
All I can say is that the Pioneer Inn is in the prime location for Lahaina, Maui. We loved being able to walk out of the hotel and right into the restaurant area, shopping area and the boat harbour in seconds. Our room and balcony were facing Banyan Park of which the market was on for the 2 days we stayed here.
The front staff were very friendly and were happy to give their views on places to eat and visit whilst staying at the hotel. The room and the bathroom to be fair were basic but the bed was lovely and the balcony was really nice to just look down on th sidewalk whilst having a couple of beers. As mentioned by the previous post, we drove to the front door and dropped our luggage in the room before going to a Pioneer assigned parking area, and the parking was free with the Pioneer card hanging from the mirror. Same when we left, just drove the car to the front of the hotel and loaded up an left.
The hotel also supplied a $3 token towards all meals in the adjoining restaurant, for which we had 2 very enjoyable breakfasts.
Whilst here we went to the Fleetwoods bar in Lahaina which only opened a couple of weeks ago, it's very much worth a visit and is owned by Mick Fleetwood, from Fleetwood Mac, who lives on the Island. And if you want to meet Mick you can order the $35,280 burger, which comes with a Mick Fleetwood signature Harley Davidson motorbike, as of the time we got there 4 have been sold and Mick has delivered the bike himself to the new owner. Of the money we were informed that between $5,000 and $7,000 goes to charity. By the way, apart from the charity burger, the prices for the meals and drinks are very reasonable.
I would very much consider coming to the Pioneer Inn for the full week, the next time I fancy another trip to Maui.

Room Tip: Odd numbers are on the sidewalk side and will be on the noisier side of the building, even numbers l...

We checked into Pioneer Inn, and were greeted by the desk clerk Amber, She was very pleasent and told us everything we needed to know about our stay. She told us we could leave our car out front as long as we needed to to unpack and get settled in. Then gave us a free parking pass for the lot right around the corner .The room was very nice ,it had just been remodeled. The age of the motel ,we thought added to the charm of this place. Its located in the heart of Lahaina. It was the perfect start of our vacation. Thank you Pioneer Inn The Powells

Room Tip: You could request a harbor view ,or a soulth side room with a view of the giant banya tree
