“Great place to stay in Lahaina”

I love this hotel. Would highly recommend it to anyone. Great rooms, great balcony, great location, great staff, great food, great parrot, close to beach. I hated to leave. I have no complaints whatsoever. You do not need a car when you stay here. Can walk to all you need. No complaints.

I absolutely love the Pioneer Inn. The history is incredible and it meets or exceeds all my expectations. Its location in Lahaina is superb. The staff is very attentive and helpful. The food is very reasonable and delicious in the hotel restaurant.

Nestled in the heart of Lahaina, on the corner of Wharf and Hotel street, right off the foot of Lahaina Harbor sits the wonderfully quaint Pioneer Inn.

Our room was small but comfortable and it had a great lanai overlooking the banyan tree of Banyan Tree Park.

Mere steps away from the launch points of the various Lahaina-based charters and tours, it was a great place to settle in after our sunset-dinner cruise.

Taking a walk from the Inn, you will come across wonderful (and touristy) shops and restaurants as well as parks and beaches. It was quite a sight to behold, seeing surfers among the boats moored near the harbor.

If you ever find yourself on Maui, make a trip out to Lahaina and stay at least one night here - you'll be glad you did!

Great spot, full of character & history right off Front Street. Very friendly and helpful reception plus had great music down stairs during our stay. Easy for walking out on Front Street or driving to explore Maui.

Room Tip: There is a rather large air conditioning unit on the ground which makes some noise, but goes off dur...

Lahaina is a central location for exploring the west side of Maui and Front Street offers many stores, restaurants and opportunities to buy local activities and attractions including the Pioneer Inn. This historic hotel has been around since 1901 and is unique and charming and has been nicely renovated over the years. We have stayed there many times and really appreciate the wonderful friendly owners and staff and chatty Alex, the bar room parrot. While certainly not high end Wailea gloss, the rooms and courtyard carry an old plantation feel, are very clean and the room rate is affordable. The beds are very comfortable but the rooms facing onto the street are subject to the noises of Lahaina - the Mynah birds in the Banyen tree dawn and dusk, the parrots at the photo booth on the corner below, the chipping of the wood carvers, the hustle in the harbour, the sounds of Saturday market, so don't expect a quiet resort atmosphere but stay to enjoy the local colour and liveliness. Locals as well as tourists frequent the bar and the quality of the food in the restaurant is good with the menu focussed on family restaurant style - and "American portions". Breakfast is my favourite meal and I enjoy the breezy openness of the restaurant with the walls being only drop down canvas to keep out the sun. From here the views are to the harbour and over Banyen tree park. The small pool in the courtyard is quiet and shady in the afternoons and provides a welcome place to cool off from the heat of the day.

Room Tip: Probably rooms facing the courtyard are quieter, I have not stayed on that side myself you miss the...

Excellent hotel, located in the middle of everything, walk to all of the best parts of town. Great food in the grill downstairs and with a great shady pool for a dip in the afternoon. We really enjoyed the history of the building as well. Hope to come back one day.

A couple years ago I stayed at the Pioneer Inn on a school trip. I enjoyed staying there so much that I felt necessary to bring my family there when we traveled to Maui last week.

The Pioneer Inn is an affordable place to stay with cozy, clean rooms. You'll see everyone on Tripadvisor talking about it's good location - and that's absolutely right. It is situated right on the Front Street with all its attractions in downtown Lahaina (my favorite city in Maui). It's also conveniently placed next to the boat harbor, making it literally a walk out the front door to get on any of the boats that leave from the harbor. The Pioneer Inn Grill is also right next to the hotel, and offers a nice meal and happy hour.

One thing I wanted to mention about the Pioneer Inn - they have truly awesome service. Because it is a rather small hotel, you will certainly feel welcomed talking to any of the people that work at the front desk. I also want to thank them for taking the effort to pick up the t-shirt I left at the grill and figure out that it belonged to us. They had it at the front desk waiting for when we checked out - that really made me smile after I had spent a ton of time looking for it as I was packing to head out!

If you plan to stay here, please know that you will not be staying at a resort that you might find in Kaanapali or Wailea. You will not have a huge room and pompous luxury. The beaches within walking distance are really not that great compared to the other beaches on Maui (although there is some great surfing on the other side of the boat harbor). However, you are in downtown Lahaina, which offers more than enough activities that you will find enjoyable.

We stayed 2 days there on our 8-day trip and explored downtown in addition to hiking Haleakala. It's certainly a place worth staying at again, as I found this time. The history of the hotel makes it even more interesting. I wouldn't recommend staying there for an entire vacation to Maui, but if you are someone interested in being in the heart of action in Lahaina, you will certainly not go wrong with staying here. I had great memories there 2 years ago and some great ones this past week!

Room Tip: Rooms facing Front St might be noisy in the evening. There is a parrot stand nearby and you may hear...
