Napili Kai is an understated, authentic Hawaiian resort. You won't be waited on hand and foot but you will be wowed in other ways. We stayed in an oceanfront studio (Puna II) which has been recently remodeled. I was very happy with how nice the room was as well as the breathtaking view. Napili bay is an excellent beach. All in all it was a fantastic experience and I would love to go back!

This is what I wanted out of a Hawaiian vacation! The property, which is not higher than two stories really feels Hawaiian/Polynesian and it sits on a the Napili Bay with several other resorts. From the late arrival and nice welcome to the spacious rooms and large bathroom with huge balcony we were very happy. The breakfasts at the resort restaurant were plentiful and delicious and the view was phenomenal. This area blows the Ka'anapali area out of the water. You can rent paddleboards from 808 Boards across the street where we saw breaching Humpback whales (early April) and followed four sea turtles. To top it off, we opened the huge sliding glass doors to hear the waves and let in the beautiful breeze in at night, can you believe it, no need for A/C even though the option was there! Additionally, there are several coral reefs which rivaled other snorkeling areas on Maui, including Turtle Town (Makena Beach area). This was the perfect resort for couples as the children we ran into were well behaved and didn't "make any scenes." Best of all, this resort was not overpriced, even for the Kapalua/West Maui areas. We will be back when we return to Maui!

Room Tip: Best views are from the second floor, but even the rooms with the garden/resort view are phenomenal.

I loved Napili Kai. We spent 4 days here in an oceanfront studio and would definitely stay here again. My first impression was that the buildings were dated and while we were there the lobby was having some maintenance done. We stayed in the Puna ll, which has parking right in front of the building reserved exclusively for guests. Again first impression upon parking was of a well maintained dated building. It looked very 70's and although there was still a bit of that feeling upon entering, much of my concern evaporated. The interior of the studio felt modern and comfortable. One caveat to that comfort were the sheets. I like heavy soft sheets and these felt a bit scratchy and thin. Oh well.
I have read reviews where people didn't like having to walk to the beach, I loved the location. When we looked out our windows or sat on the lanai we looked directly onto the sea with the island of Lanai' in the distance. There were the occasional people walking along the rocks but for the most part it felt very private and most of the noise was from water lapping against the rocks. I enjoyed the short walk through the gorgeous grounds to the beautiful sandy beach and the restaurant. The snorkeling and tide pool walks were interesting.
Finally there was no resort fee and the complimentary internet worked very well.

What a wonderful property if you're looking for low key, friendly, and navigable, with stunning views. I've stayed at all the "big and luxurious" properties (Wailea, Ritz, Fairmont, etc) and this was hands down better. The restaurant on the property was as good at providing a lovely and romantic dinner as it was serving up a delicious variety of breakfast choices without all the sticker shock of most resorts. The rooms were large, appropriately appointed, and family friendly including a full refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, and spacious balcony with comfortable chairs overlooking miles of ocean. The beach was readily accessible as were several small pools scattered around the property. If lots of restaurant choices and other high end amenities (giant Spas, onsite retail, etc) are important, you may be disappointed, but if you like something more down to earth and special, this is your place...Aloha!

Room Tip: The ground floor in the 230s are great rooms!

My husband & I stayed for 10 days in mid-March, 2014. We were delighted with the resort, the grounds and our room. We will return next Spring. This property is exactly what they promised, a Hawaiian hotel, rather than another high rise hotel. The staff was attentive and very professional.

The beach and the surrounding area is lovely, we walked for hours, enjoying the views and the various beaches. We highly recommend this property.

Stayed here 15 years ago and now again this Spring Break. Had a lovely oceanfront room, the only complaint is that the oceanfront rooms look out over rocks and the beach isn't directly in front of you, but, still, it was very nice. Best thing about Napili Bay is that snorkeling is very very easy, great for beginners. I will always be a beginning snorkeler! Just get a swim noodle from any store, rent the snorkel gear from nearby Snorkel Bob's, and snorkel away! The water is so gentle at Napili Bay that a beginner can literally snorkel all day long and see tons of fish with very little effort!

Our family absolutely loved this resort. We stayed in Room 212 and will always request that room. It was newly remodeled and had 2 bathrooms which is needed in our family! The view off of our balcony was truly amazing. No people, just ocean! We saw whales, dolphins, and sea turtles right from our room!!! The incredible walk around Kapalua beach and beyond is amazing. I just wished we had known about it earlier!! The beach was never crowded and you always had a chair. However, they do not allow you to use the lounge chairs on the beach, not sure why. The breakfast at the Sea House is fabulous!!! And we enjoyed the appetizers one night too. Our favorite restaurant, Merriman's, is right next door!!! We stopped at the Westin to see their lobby (birds, fish, etc) and my family was so thankful we were not staying at a place like this. You could not even relax around the pools as there were too many people and things going on. We love the Napili Kai Resort!!!!!

Room Tip: We loved 212 but the one next to it to the right would be good too. If you go too far over, you are...
