We stayed here over the Thanksgiving holiday. While in a great location this hotel certainly did not blow us away. The greeting and lobby areas were average. The rooms were nice but standard with average bathrooms. I think anyone paying over $400 a night plus resort fees would be expecting a little more. The pool areas were beautiful. Only complaint there was there was that there was absolutely no enforcement of the "adult only" pool area. Kids were everywhere and it made it impossible to ever use the hot tub. Overall very nice but Westin really needs to do some upgrades to make it comparable to the hotels in the Wailea area's.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a beachfront room. Really worth the extra price.

We ended up staying at the Westin Resort for half of our honeymoon stay on Maui and we really enjoyed our stay there! The property is very beautiful all around and the staff at the resort were all very friendly the entire time and treated us well.

The pool area has several pools and has a lot of areas where you can relax. The beach outside of the property is very nice though if you're snorkeling out in the water it's a little bit of a pain because they have some very large boats docking very close so it's a little of a pain to have to keep a lookout for these boats.

We ended up getting a cabana couples massage at the spa as well and they were the best massages we have ever had! We loved the experience and I would recommend it if you can afford it.

The only downfall of the property is high prices inside with the vendors/stores. For example, a cup of regular oatmeal at the Starbucks kiosk is $8 before tax. Some of the food in the pool area is pretty high priced as well (believe it was $6 for a slice of pizza, though it was good). On the other resort we stayed at on Maui, they didn't charge us for use of beachside chairs/umbrellas which was awesome but the Westin does charge for these. A couple nights there too they were VERY short on parking and were double parking throughout every aisle. Seems like down the road they will need to build a garage on the property because there doesn't seem to be enough spots and the spots are all VERY small which made getting out of the car challenging at times.

Overall, we really liked the resort and would recommend it our friends because it's a beautiful place and the rooms and views are awesome! Just be prepared to spend once inside.

Let me tell you how bad this place is:

My husband and I rented the presidential suite FOR OUR HONEYMOON. We arrived around 9PM the night of our wedding after confirming multiple times with the staff about our big day. When we arrived, the room wasn't ready. This meant we had to sit around in the lobby for close to an hour. Why our suite wasn't ready at NINE PM is beyond me, but my newly marital bliss made me all but blind to any problems .... at least, initially.

Once we were finally allowed into our room, we walked into a dark, ridiculously hot and dated "suite." It looked far more like a corporate set of rooms than the "romantic honeymoon suite" we were promised. When we asked why the room was so hot, we were told it was "probably because the AC was broken." While my husband was on the phone with the front desk, I went to use the restroom. This didn't happen, however, because the toilet was full of fecal matter. FULL of fecal matter.

Disgusted, I joined my husband on the phone call to the front desk and demanded we be moved to another room. Right about then, there was a knock at the door. It was the valet coming to deliver our bags as well as my wedding dress, which was carefully hanging in a garment bag. The problem was ... I didn't see my wedding dress. After a couple of questions, another valet arrived carrying a plastic storage container that resembled a trash can. He turned the container upside down and DUMPED MY WEDDING DRESS ON THE FLOOR. I burst into tears.

THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED. I still can't believe it.

Long story short, we left immediately and ended up renting a condo down the road at 10 o'clock at night. Avoid this place at all costs - AT *ALL* COSTS. Head to the Ritz Carlton instead - I wish we had!!!

Location is great; the property is nice .... but the room remodel was done on the cheap. I would give Westin 4 or 5 (if the room is not included).

You can hear every drop of pee & every fart from the bathroom. It sounds like there is no bathroom door at all. The cause is installation of cheap sliding door that doesn't cut sound out.

For families like us... we tolerated it. Cant imagine a honeymoon or romantic getaway here???

You cant go wrong with most hotels on this strand of beach in Ka-anapali. They all are conveniently close to Whalers village which is very nice at sunset to walk over to nearby restaurants. If you dont like crowds...dont stay here. Our kids liked walking to Whalers Village.

Other hotels next door ... Marriott, Sheraton, Aston & Ritz.

Room Tip: Make sure not in tower with renovated room with cheap sliding bathroom door.

Just got back from nine nights at the Westin. It was fantastic! I had stayed at this hotel over 20 years ago and it was even better than I remembered! Of course they have improved the pool and the rooms were updated! But the hotel is in the perfect location with amazing pools and access to the best beach! We utilized the Kids Club for the first time and it was great - our son loved it. My only complaint about the hotel is that we often had to call in the morning to make sure the housekeeping staff would come in the morning so our son could nap in the afternoon. It seemed like they were understaffed in the housekeeping area. Also they could use more self-parking, BUT they were so accomodating when the lot filled up - the hotel valeted our car for free. Great service! Can't wait to go back - my favorite property in Maui - and I have stayed at others in Kaanapali!

Room Tip: We loved the location of the Beach Tower. Closer to the pool!

The Westin Maui was a good experience. We spent three nights there. The rooms were clean, the beach was clean and big with nice waves. The food is a little pricey, $20 for a burger, but it was delicious. Also, the resort fee added $31.25 per night to the published room rate, which seems ridiculous considering it only really covers self-parking and a photograph of you at the resort. We just came from staying at the Mauna Lani on Hawaii and the $25 resort fee there covered snorkeling, chase lounges, and valet parking. But the rooms were clean and there was plenty of shopping nearby for my wife to enjoy.

Room Tip: I made my reservations through Priceline's Name-Your-Own-Price so we'd stay in budget. Pric...

The westin maui is a great property with an awesome beach and view. However, for some reason the resort feels very crowded and customer service is sub par when compared to the Sheraton. All in all it's a great place to stay. The resort staff may a need a little retraining but this shouldn't deter you from staying here, they are trying.
