“Beautiful place to stay!”
Reviewed 12 August 2014 via mobile

We loved it here! There were seven of us and there was something for everyone to do! The service was excellent and the rooms were fantastic!!!! The beds were extremely comfy! The beach was beautiful! We would eat breakfast at the hotel every morning and watch the ocean. The breakfast was wonderful but pretty expensive! I would definitely stay here again but the rooms were pricey and your not in them much.

Just completed a five night stay at the westin. We had a great time at the hotel. The location can't be beat and the pool is awesome. We had a huricane warning when we were there and the staff did a good job making sure everyone still had a great time. This is the third time we stayed there and can't wait to go back. I read some other reviews that the pool was to cold, but we did not have that problem. It was ether same temperature as the ocean and we found it very refreshing.

We have stayed in Maui in the past, so this was not our first time in the Ka'anapali area. Normally we try and avoid larger resorts as our preference is more of a condo-type lodging for longer vacations, but as we were getting married here, we figured it would be easier to just stay at the hotel.

The Wedding - Things almost completely fell apart for a bit as the day of our wedding was immediately after hurricane Iselle. Guests has flight cancellations, we were worried about whether we'd still be able to get married, etc. However, everything worked perfectly in the end - even the weather cooperated. Staff at the hotel was excellent with communication and planning for our wedding, especially given the number of last minute changes we needed to make based on the weather (changing the venue to indoors the day before, etc.). Ceremony was perfect. Staff were thoughtful - lowering curtains to block out the bright setting sun from out faces before we even asked, bringing the bride and her party complementary starbucks drinks after the ceremony. Wonderful experience.

The Hotel - This is not somewhere I would normally pick to stay (large resort). That being said, I still enjoyed it. We stayed on the 9th floor facing the ocean and had a great view. Rooms were comfortable. Service was generally very good. Our package included daily breakfast - this was a buffet and I enjoyed it. Probably would have gotten sick of it after a week though - would need more variety personally. I was worried from pictures that the hotel grounds were tacky. This is not the case and they are actually quite beautiful to walk around. However, viewed from above, I still think they look a bit tacky. The gym is good - large number of treadmills and ellipticals, dumbbells up to 50lb, and some machines. Better than average; however I personally would have loved a barbell, or at least a smith machine. The thing I was most impressed with though was staff preparation for the hurricane - there were contingency plans, food was still served (though the wait was long as all restaurants outside the resort were closed down), and all the staff helped with securing the grounds before the storm (even those who normally work desk jobs or management positions).

The only suggestions/negative aspects were minor. When we arrived the fish tank in the lobby was turbid. You could not see the fish. It was cleaned the next day, but should not have been allowed to get this bad in the first place - somewhat inappropriate to have fish if you're not going to care for them properly. Parking was somewhat confusing - contrary to what the sign at the parking lot says, you don't use your room key to get in to the lot but rather you need to use the gym access card. Parking spots are tiny (can't get out of your car tiny), but this is a Maui-wide thing, not just the resort. It also costs money to use a beach umbrella or chairs. When I am paying $500/n plus a $30/d resort fee, I would generally expect this to include access to at least a beach umbrella. If you will be here a few days it will be cheaper to buy a cheap beach umbrella and chairs in Lahaina and then throw them out when you leave then to pay the rental fees. The more bizarre thing that happened to us was that on our wedding night, they placed rose petals all over our room. The next day they cleaned the room but did not pick up the rose petals. So I placed them all in a pile. The next day, the cleaned the room again, but left the rose petals. I called to ask them to throw out the rose petals the next time they cleaned, but this never happened. By the time we checked out, they were still sitting on the floor in pile I made. Not sure what this was about.

Note - The Westin website tracks whether you have been there before or not. Like other companies that do this (airlines are the most notorious), if you look at prices, don't book anything, and then come back to the website later to look at prices, you will notice that prices will have increased, and certain deals will no longer be available. This is a trick to try and convince you to buy a room at a more expensive price. To get around this, simply clear your browsing history and cookies, or alternatively, just use an incognito window.

Room Tip: the Westin website tracks whether you have been there before or not. Like other companies that do th...

Stayed for 11 days in July, 2014.
Enjoyed this hotel very much. Excellent reception by parking attendants, hotel clerks and concierges.
Very nice mountain/golf course view room.
Excellent staff including housekeeping.
Open-air lobby and main restaurant serves good, consistent food offerings.
Pools and beach area are excellent areas to spend time when you're not touring, shopping or just beach-hopping.
Hotel is missing good secondary restaurant.
My wife and I enjoyed every moment spent at this wonderful resort.

We arrived by our own transport and chose to park our own vehicle instead of valet. Easy parking. No problem.
my husband and I made our way to check in at the spg counter. This was fairly quick as the rest of the guests were using the other check in counters so we had no queue. We arrived around 3pm so our room was ready. We had paid for mountain view but I was hoping for an upgrade to beach side. No luck unless we wanted to pay another $100 p.n. We were already paying premium rates from Australia as the hotel has a high occupancy at this time.

Went to our room and it is spacious with king size bed. The shower and toilet are in a closed bathroom with the basin and mirror in the main area. A little odd but it works ok. If you have an early riser who wants to brush their teeth or shave whilst you are sleeping it could be annoying.

The balcony..ours does overlook the mountains but also the car park. I wasn't thrilled with this and did ask if there was another option without spending more.they could have moved us up higher if we had been prepared to wait another hour. However after spending over ten hours on a flight to arrive in Maui I decided the view was not that important as you don't spend all that long in your room.
This is a very friendly hotel and the service staff are excellent. All the concierge desk staff are great.our favorite was Kirk.nothing beats local knowledge. He helped us with places to eat guiding us to what he thought might be our style and for our drives to interesting destinations as we had hired a car. He went beyond the 'call of duty' and shared lots of knowledge.nothing was too much trouble.
There is a shuttle bus available at the hotel.

Breakfast was included in our package. I must say that we felt it is was ordinary. Not terrible. Just not up to other hotels and their buffet breakfasts that we have been to recently -(comparing to Athens grande britagne and Bali -royal beach seminyak or Sofitel hua hin,Thailand.
For a change of scenery there is reciprocal rights at the Sheraton. Literally a 5 min walk along the beach pathway. You can have their buffet breakfast also.very similar breakfast but lovely surrounds to have and then perhaps head down to the beach there..black rock. Swim with the fish or jump off the cliff.

Cleaning staff for the hotel rooms.:the rooms are clean but I think the staff could be a little better. I don't want to be picky but I don't think it's difficult to rehang the bathrobe.

The pools are clean and there is the adults only pool available. Sun lounges are a plenty but people do reserve them early. If you leave your lounge for more than an hour your towels will be removed. We have turned up at various times and haven't had a problem with finding some where to sit.

We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the property.
There were all ages here...young couples, young families, older couples. We think it would be great for all.
Position of the hotel is great. Close to lots of areas of interest and lahaina for nice eating places. Or just stroll to whalers next door for some shops and eateries.

Our biggest concern is how paper thin the walls to the rooms are. People's conversations can be heard easily. In the corridors the sound of flapping Sandles can even be heard. So if noises annoy you it could be a problem as there is little sound proofing. Most people are considerate but we thought worth mentioning in the review.

Wifi: it's free...well you actually pay for it in the daily resort fee!
We do think it is probably getting to the stage where the hotel needs a freshen up.

A really enjoyable time in Maui

We just got home August 7, 2014 from staying at Westin Maui Resort and Spa for 6 nights. I read a million reviews before I left about this resort and was very skeptical and afraid!! Many reviews were very negative about poor service, unclean rooms, and overall bad experience at this resort. I was impressed the moment we arrived with how friendly everyone was. We arrived too early to check in to our room so they kept our luggage for us until we could get a room, and called my cell phone when our rooms were ready. We had lunch at the only restaurant at the resort called Relish Burger, really good food even though it's expensive. When you travel to Hawaii, just get over the fact that everything is expensive!! It's ALL overpriced, but I have to say at least every single meal we had there was GREAT! Good food. The pools and grounds are beautiful, always clean and nice. Whaler's Village is literally right next door with a food court that has a pizza place, Subway, Mexican, and a burger place. Good food and reasonably priced. I live in Northern CA and this place was comparable to the prices we pay here. Great place to walk for lunch and they also have some breakfast items. Leilani's on the Beach is also a great place to eat, great fish tacos. We walked over here twice during our stay, again expensive, but get over it!

If you go into Lahaina, which you should because Westin has a free shuttle that goes over there every hour, eat at Mick Fleetwood's restaurant called Fleetwoods. Really good! Great wine list and food was excellent. Overall, we had a great stay at the Westin.

First time in Maui I booked through Pleasant Holidays as I have done numerous times before and I usually choose the first hotel that they recommend and we couldn't have been happier! Hotel is about a 30min drive from the Airport, but it was well worth it, close to Lahaina where you can go shopping, or stay at the hotel and walk to Whalers Village. The Pool area was the highlight for our children, awesome waterslide and holding the talking white parrot and the pool was big enough so it didn't feel crowded, waterfalls made for nice pictures!
Concierge ladies were very friendly and helpful.
Fridge in the room and microwave and toaster by the little coffeeshop downstairs.
Can't wait to got here again!
